Well clearly I'm in the minority on that one! Still comfortable that he needs to start doing more on a more consistent basis, but happy to accept I'm the lone ranger on that :p:thumbsu:

I think you are right that he needs to deliver more. A 9th place in the B and F looks ok on paper but he played 22 games and his votes per game (where role is taken into account) were pretty low. He’s in his eighth year at the club now. I think we’re entitled to expect more.

Yeah, I thought Lester was solid. The problem with him is the games where he is invisible (last week) but today wasn’t one of those days.

I suspect that if we’ve got a choice between a mature body and a youngster then, all things being equal, we’ll favour experience, at least to start the season.

His lack of consistency always holds him back. I seem to recall he had some very good reports this time last year too only for it all to fizzle out once the real action got under way.

Lester never has a brilliant game but that's just the type of player he is. I think he's been consistent the last couple of years and doesn't really go missing anymore. Just keeps bobbing up, and you can often see the effort on his face. I love that about him. He's entrenched in the team now and unless injured I think he'll play every game. I used to hate on him so hard, I feel embarrassed about it looking back. But he used to make me so furious! I'm now an unashamed fan. I'd nearly choose him on my membership card if I had the choice haha!

Lester is the type of player every team needs. He's one of my 1st picked each week

He looked pretty good (again) when he attended stoppages on the weekend. He is smart with his size and seems to draw frees through body position and strength. I don't think he was ever the type of athlete who could spend entire games in there, but that doesn't seem to be how teams play anymore.

I also like him as a leading medium forward which he's done less in the preseason (to my eye anyway). We haven't been able to present many of those short leading targets inside 50 and I think he could help with that.

Looks like I will be right about Cutler having a breakout year - he kicked 4 for the twos. I'm pretty sure I didn't stipulate who he would have the breakout year for!!!

Still backing him in to be one of our best in the ones once he gets his chance.
I think most of us would be happy for your to be right. Here's hoping

Isn’t this the team from AFL dot coms article written by Michael Whiting?

Interesting that people keep putting CC on the wing and Taylor as a forward.

I used it as inspiration and changed a bit around. I has heard that Charlie had been training with the midfield group so I had him on the wing but I also thought Taylor could have been there

I can't speak for others, but I've been working on the assumption that our wings tend to rotate through half forward and vice versa. IIRC, Fagan commented to that effect last year when asked about Cutler rotating through the forward line. I don't think it's critical which of the two a player is named at.

I found it quite strange that a good part of last years team announcements had Lester on the wing?
I dont think the way the team is named, is as they play.
McStay was also named up forward for a lot of games, but always started down back.

Highly unlikely that Matheson or Barrett will be available in Round 1 due to injury.

Couldn’t possible have Lester as an Emergency and Bell in the side. Other than that, a good stab at it.

Likely Lions best 22 v likely saints best 22 for round 1 imho - we'll be a bit quicker on a fast track, they have a solid and experienced back 6 with a pretty good range of sizes v our slightly inexperienced and developing forwards. We should be competitive through the mids. We're a decent chance but will need to work hard away. Good test to start.

I'm not as bullish about Allison as some on here. I would love nothing more than for him to become best 22 given what he can bring to the side, but I think he is short of it at the moment.
