My vote goes to Michael Voss :thumbsu:

Had everything a good captain needs - leadership, courage, great skills, discipline.

EDIT: Lets change that to top 3 captains.

Imo, Hird was the greatest captain of the past decade. Inspirational to all those around him and set an example to the rest. Stood up when times were tough, and when the team needed him to.

What more can you ask from the man. Absoloute bloody champion.

Can't argue with Tom Harley's record. I know it's only one year, but what a year!!

Over a longer period though, I'd go Ricciuto. The whole Adelaide team seems to lift when he's on the ground like no other captain seems to be able to do.

Quite sure that when it comes to on-field, Carey was one of the best Captains ever. Lifted North countless times. Inspirational, amazing courage and a great team player as well. Commanded the team from CHF and lead the way to victory.

Second would be Voss. Same mold as Carey but was a little worse on all fronts.

Guess after that would be either Hird/Bucks/Ricciuto but honestly Voss and The King were miles ahead of the pack.

Obviously at the end of Carey's tenure he screwed up, but he'd have my vote marginally ahead of Voss. Carey lifted what would otherwise have been an average side into a great side, whereas Voss was surrounded by a team of absolute champions. Not that North Melbourne didn't have great players, its just that IMO Brisbane 01-04 had far more great players.

Dating back to 1997, in that case Wayne Carey by an absolute country mile. Noone else in his league as a captain, simple as that. The fallout was all off field, had nothing to do with on field, so don't let me hear any of that crap.

There is simply no other answer than Carey. Was probably near his peak form through the middish 90's and into the late 90's, was the best player in the AFL at that time, led his team to a flag and another GF. Seeing as this only goes back to 1997 he didn't do it as long as Voss or Hird or Buckley, but he was still the best. Undeniable.

Anyone who captained that Brisbane side people would have said was the best captain in the last 10 years. Voss was a great captain but anyone could have captained a powerhouse like Brisbane of the early 00's. If Darryl White had have been the premiership captain people would have said the same thing about him they say about Voss

John Worsfold would be up there. definetely in the top 3 if it was the last 15

but Michael voss would have to be for the last 10 years

If the Carey-Stevens falling out was overlooked, then Carey would definitely be #1.

Voss.

Good captains dont go around ****ing team-mate's wifes, so i dont see how people could even consider Carey

Good captains don't go around beating the shit out of people in a bar, so i don't know how anyone could consider Voss:rolleyes:

Which captain beat the shit out of people in a bar?

If you need to stretch the truth to make an argument, the argument probably wasn't worth making to begin with.

Hird, Buckley and Voss? Not another thread about them lol :D

Buckley improved alot in the last couple of years but he wasn't a great Captain, he didn't get the FIGJAM nick for nothing. A Captain has to lead and bind the group to play for each other. Voss definately had that ability, Kelly was another

Agreed. Just a sour grapes North supporter who doesn't want to admit that their greatest ever leader tainted his standing as such by turning his whole team against him with a dog act. Carey was a great captain, but it's kinda difficult to overlook the actions that led to his demise at the Roos.

I agree. Early on he was not in the class of Hird/Voss

Forgot about Kelly....look up the word inspirational and you'll see P. Kelly's picture next to it.

One feather punch doesn't constitute "beating the shit out of people"! Whats more, that punch didn't have an effect on the team.....Carey messing around with teammates wife nearly destroyed his team....BIG DIFFERENCE!!......So Voss over Carey (and everyone else) anyday....Strength of character is an important componant...Voss had it in bucket loads..
