Best career after being delisted?

Wasn't delisted. Quit to go and play guitar. Unfortunate really.

I think you will find the Hawks let him go as he had a heart condition. A hole in his heart or some such thing and then he went to South Australia and played under Shaun Rehn for a few years and then picked up by the Tigers. Just like his father a bit of a late developer had to get the grounding before he could make the seniors and the health problem slowed him down even further. Hawks at the time couldn't see the value in keeping him, understandably at the time, turned his game around, got healthier under Rehn and best of luck too him. Tigers lucky to have him IMO, turning into a really good player just like his brother will.

Depends if by best career if you mean the player that has achieved the most after being delisted, then that would be Martin Pike 3 premierships is hard to top.

However if you are meaning who turned out the best player after being delisted, then I think Peter Bell nearly takes the cake.

:thumbsu: Yes i agree

Pike won 3 premierships after being delisted..

But as far as who was the best player after they were delisted goes it has to be Bell.

Bell won 2 Premierships
2 AA's
4 B and F's
And captained Freo from 2002-2006

Pike was first delisted by Melbourne because he loved the booze too much. One of those forced 'trades' where the club gets what they can. After winning Fitzroy's best and fairest in 1996, Denis Pagan threw him a lifeline and the rest is history. Pike played good footy for the Roos and was a member of their 1999 premiership. He went back to his old ways, was delisted once more, picked up by Brisbane and played in their hat-trick of premierships.

So that makes four premiership medals.

Fair enough so its Pike with 4 premierships and one B&F..

and Bell with 2 premierships, 4 B&F's, 2 AA's and club captain for 5 years.

I would still take Bell by a Mile. He was a far better player and backs it up with multiple accolades.

It's like saying Brereton was a better CHF than Carey because he had 4 premierships compared to 2

Barge-arsed centreman, Adrian Fletcher had a few false starts at Geelong and St Kilda before settling down and becoming the prime ball-winner for John Northey's Brisbane Lions and then later for Fremantle.

1993 - 5th in Brisbane's best and fairest
1994 - 4th in the best and fairest
1995 - 2nd in the best and fairest
1996 - 4th in the best and fairest (awesome during their finals series)
1997
1998 - 2nd in Fremantle's best and fairest
1999 - Won the best and fairest

He retired at the end of 2001, aged 32, but was still good enough to finish in the AFL's Top 5 for handballs and Top 20 for disposals.

Fletcher was probably a better footballer than Pikey, but mostly played for struggling sides. I'm not 100% certain why Fletcher left Geelong and St Kilda, whether he was not wanted by those clubs, whether he was seeking other opportunities or whether it was an amicable split.

I guess Pike springs more readily to mind than Bell because he played a few games for his former clubs and he was then publicly rejected. No one even knew who Peter Bell when he was delisted by the Dockers in those early days. The Dockers had a revolving door happening there in their formative years.

But yeah, you're right, he had the best career by far, in terms of individual achievement.

Jose Romero was surplus to Pagan's needs at North, but was one of the mainstays in the Bulldogs' midfield. He won the best and fairest in their exciting season in 1997.

Brett James played some good footy for Adelaide after being delisted by Collingwood

Chris Bond was delisted by Carlton and was a good competitor for Richmond

Tony Woods was a Collingwood reject who gave the Hawks good service

Glen Manton was on and off Essendon's list before being traded to the Blues

Westy won in 97, Jose tied with Chris Grant in 96 (his first season with the club).

Brett James was traded for Jonathon Ross, but agreed, he was a very underrated player.

Brisbane.

No he wasn't

Osborne was not on Brisbane's senior list at any stage. My memory is really hazy on this point, but I think he was offered the chance to train with Brisbane at some point but turned them down and ended up being put on the rookie list at Hawthorn.

Osborne is officially listed as being recruited from Labrador, Qld.

Osborne was actually delisted...by Hawthorn. He played senior games in 02, was delisted from the rookie list at the end of the year and then redrafted as a rookie in the rookie draft.

Spot on. Thanks for refreshing my memory.

Certainly not delisted. The Hawks tried everything to keep him but it was clear his mind was elsewhere at the time. Plus having a police serjeant as coach was a bit of a problem for a lad with a penchant for getting himself into trouble.

Ablett leaving was the Best thing to happen to Hawthorn IMO.
we wouldn't have won the flags that we did if he was there.

I used to confuse Osborne with Nathan Clarke, a blond-haired goalsneak from the Lions in 2000 and 2001 who was also a rookie promotion (from Marochydore, maybe?). Either way, I was a big fan after he booted a few against the Hawks at the Gabba back in round 18 2000, but he was delisted and then redrafted at some stage.
