Averaged over 28 disposals and nearly 5 clearances a game. Ridiculous. If he wasn't screwed out of the Rising Star I doubt people would've forgotten about him so quickly.
Not just the fact that he didn't get the Rising Star, he also had an easily forgettable 2nd year. And when you're at GWS, it's easy to forget you, unless your name is Jeremy Cameron.

You're right; he took a step backward last season, but his absence from the poll and lack of mentions in the thread suggests that his outstanding first year has been underrated. Definitely related to playing for GWS in their first year in the competition as well, as you said.

lol who the **** voted for Crouch?

Probably not the best first year ever and he had two preseasons under his belt but looking at the stats he did very well. More touches than o'meara but half a tackle less a game. If he had played a whole season I think he would be right up in top 2 best first years.

I didn't vote at all, but i can see why someone would think he had the best year based on stats

If you find it laughable someone would pick Crouch you obviously didn't see Adelaide play last year. Looked even more assured on the field than O'Meara; showed class and toughness and the ability to win the ball in and out and both ways. Huge talent.

Palmer iirc absolutely dominated the competition in his first season... surprised I was the first to vote for him.
O'meara was in his 2nd season so doesn't count, and shouldn't be in the poll.
Sellwood was good... but any half decent player in their first year playing in that Geelong side would look amazing... Rioli same with the Hawks in 08.

If we are talking overall careers to this point... then Sellwood is miles ahead. but we aren't so have to go Palmer

Selwood was magnificent, but Judd was something else. How easily he was able to run around opponents was baffling.
I think it's unfair to compare the two, especially when people say that Selwood or other modern day players had better years. In 03, the game was much different and I presume Judd would have only played 70-80% due to the rotation style, whereas nowadays, Selwood would have played more like 80-90% as he would be on, go off for 30 sec-2 mins and then be back on for another 10-15. So I agree with you.

Of that list, O'Meara. Selwood's first year was fantastic, but the class that walked onto the park with him each week was incomparable to O'Meara's.

Of all time though, Relton Roberts and it's not even close.
