93/93 season was a boom, MJ Power in the Key, Shaq/Penny thunder and lightning..NBA card collecting was a phenomenon for a few years. In Shaq's rookie year, everyone started collecting basketball cards suddenly, even kids who didn't really play basketball. It lasted for two, maybe three years until the mid-90s and then everyone stopped, just as abruptly as they'd begun. But those few years were something else: there were shops in the outer suburbs that specialised in basketball cards and everything.
Jamara tried picking up my daughters friend at the Torquay hotel over the Xmas break.Word around some Dogs circles is mental health and potentially early retirement, kids not in a good head space by any means.
MMM played a heap of these 3UZ recordings 7 or 8 years ago and it was an absolute pisserBT used to do the Good Sports on the Greater 3UZ in the early 90’s
Was on air 11pm to midnight after the last races had run.
Friday nights shows were followed by Boydies Truck Stop. (Roll on big mummaaaa..)
At the time the Pies were I think trying to introduce Collingwood radio and BT was submitting audition tapes.
Strange cat very very highly strung.
I wonder if any of the night show exists. I doubt it.MMM played a heap of these 3UZ recordings 7 or 8 years ago and it was an absolute pisser

Skybox, Fleer, NBA hoops gold anniversary
Going after footy training to the chemist to buy a pack, glory days
Bought a 94-95 whole box with my mate and felt like I’d completed if not cheated the hobby .. petered out just about the next year and I never looked at my file of cards again
I got right into "box break" videos on YouTube a while back of people hunting Jordan rookies. Its amazing how many sealed Fleer boxes from the mid 80s are still floating aroundAbout 10 years ago a bunch of mates and I decided to have a piss up at home and everyone had to bring a box of basketball cards. Doing a search on eBay at the time, I couldn't believe it: you could get a lot of those early 90s boxes, still sealed, for like $30-40. Can't recall exactly how much, but I got a box of Fleer Ultras from 1994 and I'm positive I wouldn't have paid more than $50, i just wanted as many packs as possible to crack open and make jokes about the players, wasn't fussed about the going value of them. Others bought boxes from the (then) modern era, which only had like four cards in a pack and a lot of the packs had this cardboard packing junk in it, because the special cards contain a patch of a player's game worn uniform, so they had to hide it so you couldn't tell from the outside which packs had the prized cards.
Such a great day, highly recommend if those bargains can still be had on eBay, although considering those boxes were probably like $130-150 when they were first released, you probably shouldn't expect to get rich from it.
Memories... ah... apologies to those who weren't obsessed with basketball cards 30 years ago for the slight derailing.
LA Beast has done a few looking for MJ cards as well as rare wrestling cards.I got right into "box break" videos on YouTube a while back of people hunting Jordan rookies. Its amazing how many sealed Fleer boxes from the mid 80s are still floating around
Was it Toby from Newport?I remember when he was not long out of his playing career and before he started commentating the footy on Triple M, he used to host a basketball card show. I was listening to one episode and he was losing his shit at all the people prank calling the show and he gave them all a massive spray, saying words to the effect of, if this is the crap he has to deal with, they can stick their show.
So the next person who calls in starts by saying "Just touching on what you were saying there about the prank callers BT, I think you made some interesting points and (starts screaming incoherently for a few seconds before he's cut off)". 8-9 year old me was absolutely pissing myself.

It was so long ago that I can't remember if it was real or not, but there were some funny times when BT seemed to blow his top at Rocky for being a dole bludger, etcThe most awkward and unreal bit of radio...

It's a story as old as time. People with mental illnesses - especially those that come under the catch all of 'depression' - often seek out activities, or behave in such a way, so that their illness isn't readily identifiable. It's a defensive mechanism, and allows them to be someone else for a few hours of the day or week or whatever.
100%Another story as old as time is young blokes who think they are invincible go out and get destroyed regularly on booze and gear.
They then feel like absolute shite in the following days (come down) and hate the world.
Rinse/repeat.
More often it’s the lifestyle leading to the “depression” not the depression leading to the lifestyle.
MJ is a borderline sociopath. He even admits that. That driven to be great he burns anyone that gets in his way. Thats why hes the greatest athlete ever. Played 82 games with a ****ed knee as a 41yo. LeBron fanboys thinking hes in the same stratosphere shit me. Anyway back to rumours not cold hard facts..Licensing cost a bomb.
He's one of the great shit campaigners of all time, I found it hugely pathetic how he paid no attention to Longley in the Last Dance and then as soon as he found out Luc had a doco he dropped everything to simp over him. a horrible self serving, manipulative campaigner. but I guess he won a lot of people a lot of titles and a lot of money.
