this maybe a strange question is it teachers that coach these teams or are they paid coaches that the school source from outside.

Depends which school, some have teachers, some have outside coaches. Some have PE teachers they have hired because they would be good coaches and things like that. All depends on the money the school is willing to spend I spose, particularly if there is no ready made coach in the staff already.

That is a revolting comment! So if CGS has the money to steal players like Judd (moved to cgs on scholarship in yr 11 from St Leonards) and Mcqualter (moved to cgs in yr 10/11 on scholarship from Gippsland Grammar) it automatically means that they are one of the great football schools? It's a joke!

Completely wrong big fella. judd was at caulfield grammar a lot earlier than yr 11 as he played in the firsts in year 9. In fact, im pretty sure he was there since year 7. Caulfield definitely up there with the likes of Xavier to have the most AFL players.

Correct, Judd was there from year 7.

It's pretty hard to choose the "best football school in Australia" because there are so many criteria to consider, such as whether you look at the total number to play VFL/AFL, how recent they were, or how good they were. Either way you'd be pretty ignorant to say GC doesn't rate as it was the first APS school with two Brownlow winners (Greeves and Lord). Despite being a small co-ed school it also has several current AFL players (time will tell if they are quality or not). I think CGS is the only other APS school now to also have two Brownlow medallists so if quality of player is a key criteria neither school should be discounted as a top football school.

My interpretation would be a combination of class talent and the number of players drafted.

caulfield have produced some quality footballers but surely you cant claim deledio, went to school at caulfield for all of 3 days.
if you are going by a school teams success and players drafted to vfl/afl you cant go past the big 3

assumption/xavier/st pats ballarat

if you tossed up schools from each state, theyd have to be from victoria (in no particular order at all) anyway:

- Haileybury College
- Ballarat and Clarendon College
- Scotch College
- Melbourne Grammar
- Assumption College Kilmore
- St Bernards College
- St Patricks Colege
- Essendon/ Keilor Grammar (Only school in vic to have a Football VET Subject)

Highly doubt you could put MGS in there this year. A very close win to Geelong Grammar last friday in comparrison to expections and history puts forth a bit of doubt for MGS this year. A lot of good MGS players out but also many important GGS leading players including a whole midfield squad

my statement wasn't such to say that caulfield havent produced a lot of players who are quality, but just my opinion on the criteria to make a school a good football school. The reason i bolded caulfield was because i believe that there are interstate schools which have satisfied the criteria better than cgs. However, if it was vic schools only, cgs would be up at the top along with the likes of xavs and scotch etc.

You have to be kidding???
MGS won by a solid 5 goals over GGS without the likes of May, Mitchell, Keath, Heenan and Bean just to name a few

I'll say this for a fact, St Pats never had anything resembling their best 22 agaisnt BCC, prefering to rest their better TAC players so they could concentrate on Herald sun matches and their Tac footy, rather than overburden them by playing BAS games.

I think it is fair to say that St Patricks College has over 100 years of proud football tradition producing quality players!
BCC - have been competitive with StPats for only the last 5 years - with scholarships given to Nth Brat Rebels players.
AND still they are most famous for Adam Goodes' Brother, hahaha.

As a football school over last 100 years =StPats
As a football school over last 5 years = draw
As a football school producing AFL individuals over 100 years = St Pats
As a football school producing AFL individuals over last 5years= St Pats
As an academic school - BCC easily, and so they should with their fees
