Best grand final performances you have seen

Opposite to my other thread "Worts GF Performances you have seen".

We all know the Norm Smith goes to the best player of the GF...but are some MORE deserving than others.....surely Abletts efforts in 1989 are better than Buckleys in 2002.

Are there some GF players performances you are sure deserved the Norm Smith, but didint win it.

Ablett Snr 1989 was amazing..but having watched the game heaps of times...his 9 just for some reason dont stand out.

Yeah, when they said Lenny Hayes...i was like..WHAT????

Then i remembered I had $100 on hayes at $7 for the Normie so I quickly changed my thoughts about it.

Have watched it again and Hayes was pretty bloody good...its just Goddard was more visible...whereas hayes work was all down low getting the bloody thing out to Goddard.

true either could have gotten it but if you watch the replay alot of Goddards eyecathing play was on the back of some outstanding inside work from Hayes. the hangar come from a Hayes clearance where he beat 2 collingwood players. But do agree i am 50/50 on it

Ablett 1989 of course. Also Diesel Williams in 1995. Kicked 5.4 himself but was the penultimate possession in another 7 or 8 goals. Between goals kicked and scoring assists he contributed a combined 12-13 goals.

Peter Burgoyne and Gram were both very unlucky not to win Norm Smiths in 04/09 respectivly IMO.

Best overall I've seen would be Judd in 05.

Ablett should have won 2008 because 34 posessions and 2 goals compared to Luke Hodges 26 posessions and 1 goal.

1980 GF.

They gave the Norm Smith to Bartlett because a) He had beaten John Nicholls games record during the finals, b) He had an awesome finals series overall (21 goals from a HFF!?!?) and c) he did play well in the GF. So, a great story.

But on the actual day, he was probably Richmond's 3rd or 4th best - Lee, Raines and Cloke (6 goals) all had better claims, I thought. But there was absolutely no doubt they were giving the award to Bartlett.

95 - Williams was unstoppable... he destroyed the cats

Dont thik there can be Norm Smiths in 1 GF cos its voted on by 5 people and the odds of it make it hard for 2 winnres...and they would prob give an extra point to one player over another due to:

1: Goals kicked
2: Winning side


would prob get a 6th person in to vote if it was draw anyways

Brett Kirk's second half in 2006 is much under-rated - almost single-handedly dragged us over the line from a 30 pt deficit.

I thought Gram and Chapman tied on votes but Chapman won it cos he has more 3s

For Games I can remember, Simon Black in 2003 finishes just ahead of Brendan Goddard in 2010.

I have a some memory of Williams destroying us in 1995, but it's not clear as I was only 7, so he's not included.
