From now to 3 years I'd say Gold Coast -

Ablett
Omeara
Swallow
Bennell
Martin
Prestia

Then they have a lot of wingers/flankers that could run on ball.. pretty scary!

Don't forget Jack Martin... He could end up the best of the lot. What an amazing midfield the Suns will have in a few years time.

Gold Coast quite easily.

West Coast, Richmond, North and Sydney all tracking very nicely.

Ports 11 votes is a big LOL. They have some pretty good top end talent in Wines, Wingard, Boak, but they currently have Kane Mitchell running through there which is a massive red flag, shows pretty blatantly that they have minimal depth in there.

North - Ziebell, Cunnington, Batsinac, Anthony, Swallow, Wells

McDonald.

From a pure contested possession/clearance/stoppages aspect North should have the edge.

The midfield starting group of Swallow, Cunnington and Ziebell are 4, 5, 16 for clearances, 7, 10 16 for contested possessions, 2, 3 and 39 for stoppages and 6, 10 and 11 for centre clearances already.

Is there a better inside combination in the competition now?

Unfortunately North being the biggest chokers since Greg Norman will make the whole team look crap.

I'm very happy the above list but hot damn Gold Coast are going to dominate very soon.

We're almost exactly 3 years on from when this post was written.

I honestly think we have the best midfield in the league now, but I wouldn't have guessed it 3 years ago.

I think ours is now giving it a shake - should be a cracking game this week!

Pendlebury, Swan, Beams, Ball, Thomas, Sidebottom, MaCaffer, Blair (Josh Thomas, Fasolo)

At their best they are still the best midfield imo, just haven't seen it together fit since 2011.

You'd have to say Sydney at the moment.

Beams will make that midfield so much better when he returns. Some people have forgotten how good he is.

Personally I'll be rapt if he can come back at his 2011 home and away form (split between forward and midfield) and at least provide some much needed defensive efforts in the middle. Will be 4 months out by the time he gets back, that is a huge chunk of the season to miss.

as always, I'll add in my Geelong bit ;)

Christensen, Caddy, Hunt, Duncan, Selwood, Horlin-Smith, Varcoe (Murdoch, Stringer, Schroder)

Motlop is also spending some time on the wing this year. He is part of the Cats midfield rotation

Swans and Pies are the two you would debate who you would prefer ATM.

Pendles Swan and Beams (when fit) are 3 of the top 10 mids.

In 3 years time though, Ball, Swan and possibly Thomas (free agency) won't be around.

If you were talking the current guys....Blair, Macaffer, Sidebottom are developing but certainly not A grade material just yet while Beams could be anything but has yet to back up his brilliant 2012 season.
For all you know, he could come out and do a Dale Thomas this year or next.

Here's a hint, look at when the thread was created.

and it's now 2013 and you have linked Ball and Swan into the current discussion when they are both on the slide due to a mix of age and injuries.

Pendlebury, Beams, Kennedy, Sidebottom, Seedsman, MaCaffer, Blair (Josh Thomas, Fasolo)

Your recent post from a few weeks ago has been edited for accuracy :thumbsu:

Most (including me) were discussing how accurate the previous predictions were, given that it has been three years since the OP was created.

If I had to choose a Pies line up for 2016 (which as I said earlier wasn't what this thread is about) it would consist of players like:

Pendles, Beams, D Thomas, MaCaffer, Josh Thomas, Sidebottom, Fasolo, Kennedy, Seedsman, Martin, Broomhead, Dwyer.

We've built up a solid base of players capable of rotating through the middle to go with Beams, Pendles and Thomas who would all be top 20 players when fully fit and should all still be in their prime in 2016.

Sidebottom is almost A grade already IMO.

There'd be a few

St Kilda's midfield in 10 would have been one of the best;
Hayes, Goddard, Dal Santo, Montagna, Jones, Ray etc
Now 3 years on and the hope lies on the shoulders of
McEvoy, Steven, Armitage, Newnes, Ross etc
