If there were a hypothetical nine game season that saw the previous 10 minor premiers facing each other (assuming Hawthorn are this years), who would win the minor premiership?

For any particularly bold BF poster out there, I dare you to come up with an end of season ladder. I'm not going to attempt it, but I suspect St Kilda (09) would be higher than Collingwood (2010/11)- Although this is open to almost infinite debate. Geelong in 07 and 08 would both be quite high, and Hawthorn of each 12/13 would probably be in the middle.

Thoughts?

Here's the list

2002 Port
2003 Port
2004 Port
2005 Adelaide
2006 West Coast
2007 Geelong
2008 Geelong
2009 St. Kilda
2010 Collingwood
2011 Collingwood
2012 Hawthorn

I'd go with the Pies 2011, unstoppable when they were on.

Not trying to draw attention to my own team or nuffen, but could easily say the same thing about 08 Cats- or 09 Saints (even tho they dropped a few)

1. Geelong '08
2. St Kilda '09
3. Collingwood '11
4. Geelong '07
5. Collingwood '10
6. Hawthorn '13
7. Hawthorn '12
8. West Coast '06
9. Port '04
10. Adelaide '05
IMO Hawthorn were better last year than this year. I know they lost more games but they were mostly early in the season.

Agree with the rest though.

I rate the 11 Pies higher than the 09 Saints, and it could go either way with the 08 Cats. There are just so many great teams in that list.

The best minor premier should be limited to those went onto the flag.

However for discussion sake only

Port Adelaide winning three minor premierships (and one fourth place) in the 01-04 Brisbane years might just tell you how good a minor premier we were.

Record equal of anything Geelong has done in H&A bar 2008.

Only 4/10 of the minor premiers went on to win the flag. Port 2004 West Coast 2006, Geelong 2007, Collingwood 2010. All respect to West Coast and Port, but it would be out of Geelong and the Pies.

Where does WC 06 stand against any of those six years?

i don't think even the most ardent of eagles supporters would proclaim our 2006 team as an all time great team, but we did what we had to do to win the premiership. didn't have the forward line to match the real top teams of the last decade.

The cats had the pies well and truly covered in 2011 in the H&A. Saints in 09 had all top eight rivals covered. Only lost games when it was all wrapped up to non eight teams - and then by under a goal. Reckon I've never seen better, especially over the first 14 rounds.
Pity it took too much out of them in the end.

Geelong '07. Once they had a heart to heart with each other after the round 5 loss to North, they only lost 1 more game for the season, round 21 to Port at Geelong and that was only by 5 points right at the death of the game.

Geelong '08, although only losing one game for the H&A season were shaky in a lot of them and only played in fits and starts before Port tried to rough them up in round 12. They then had 2 or 3 huge wins and then went back to only having 1 or 2 big quarters per game to get them over the line.

The '08 ladder will show them to have finished 4 games and 30 odd % clear on top of the ladder but personally I think they were better for longer in games in '07 once they started their winning run. They still finished 3 games and almost 40% clear that season. I know it's not H&A but they also won 2 of their 3 finals by 100+ points.

The Cats were the ONLY team to beat the pies that year though, it had every single other teams covered. If Saints truly had all top eight rivals covered, then they wouldn't have lost the GF, so I wouldn't say that they had all their rivals covered.

I still think the Pies 2011 had a lot more firepower and were a lot more destructive than St. Kilda. They played completely different styles though, so it depends which game style you think would prevail.
