Movies that i had high hopes for but underwhelmed a little (still enjoyed them though to different degrees):

Late night with the devil.

Really need to watch Flow and Wild Robot

Within the year the best movie I watched was Zone of Interest which was released here in 2024 but is a 2023

Otherwise Civil War…that scene…could have been applied to every real conflict of 2024

I can't even think of 10, not a great year for movies.

This will be an unpopular choice, but Ricky Stanicky would be up there with the best I've seen this year, certainly the best comedy.
Deadpool / Wolverine was a let down for me.

I actually re-watched some TV series this year because the movie offerings weren't great.

I watched that on a plane home from Germany funnily enough.
Everything I read in the lead up to it had me keen, but damn it was slow. Bit of a let down.

It's been a very good year of movies in 2024 but there are no stand outs besides Dune Part Two. Usually there are a couple of those calibre films but the rest aren't at that level.

There was the usual complaints last year that movies aren't as good as they used to be. But IMO 2023 movies were better than 2024.

I think COVID hurt for a lot of quality 2020/2021 releases, and then after a bit of a recovery this year we're seeing the effects of the Hollywood strikes, at least for people who mainly watch mainstream American films.

All really good movies you've listed, but I haven't seen The first Omen.

I'd probably take the following from your list as well above average:

Strange Darling
Dune 2

And then add Heretic and Conclave.

Honorable mention to Late Night With The Devil.

And yet to see Nosferatu which sounds like it could be a contender.

Yep I’m hoping these three which I’ve yet to see. Ordinary year no standouts so far. Probably Substance at this stage

A good year for horror and sci-fi, but not a great one in general that being said for me Dune 2 and The Substance are better then anything I saw last year.

Anora was a good suggestion by a couple of people. I struggled with the first half hour as I didn't like the main two characters and what they got up to. But once the Russian heavies get it involved it becomes hilarious with some poignant moments too. Lots of great scenes. Mikey Madison's performance was excellent.
