Best Skipper in the League - Richie

Errr I think he was taking the piss with the tagger line buddy.... and Neitz has great skills - very accurate kick, one of the best from outsdie 50 ever.

You could pull whichever words out of that list you want, Rick, Tough and Uncompromising could be distinctly different, or practically the same thing, depending on the reader.

Tagger was in the list. I commented on it.

Great Skills? I don't think so. Neitz does what a traditional full forward does very well. Great Kick wasn't noted. So I'm just commenting on what's there. In fact, if you're going to pay out a phrase, probably have a crack at Silky Skills. It's a little vague. Does that encompass handballs? baulking players? Not sure. If so, Neitz isn't that great at it. But yes, if it was simply kicking, then you're right. But if that was the case, he probably would have said Great Kick.

Who is Melbourne's captain? Neitz? As far as I can tell, he only gets a tick in the following boxes...

Tough
Uncompromising
Goal-kicker
Tagger
Silky Skills
Contested Marker

Of Ritchie, I think most of us agree he's not the most talented player in the league, but in all honesty, he also ticks three of the boxes...

Tough
Uncompromising
Goal-kicker
Tagger
Silky Skills
Contested Marker
Tough, get off it.

Josh Hunt is tougher than Richie Vanderberg, both act tough but are weak.

Has the record for most goals from outside 50 in one match, 6 against St Kilda just last year mid-season. Didn't miss any from outside 50 that day either.

Only guys i'd rather have kicking from outside 50 going around right now would be Lucas and Fevola.

How long has that statistic been recorded though? I'm sure Gary Ablett senior probably would've kicked more than 6 from outside 50m that day he bagged the lazy 14 off the wing against Richmond at the 'G.

How is this tangible???? Ever seen Vandenberg leave the field in tears? Ask the umpire for protection?

I mean anything that remotely suggests that he is "acting" tough, instead of being tough, as you put it????

Stop using such vague, intangible descriptions, and you'll start getting more clarity in your responses.

Hmm it's an interesting one, IMO the captain should always be a player capable of bringing his team back from the brink of defeat - Richie can not, and never will, do that.

It's why I rate Travis Johnstone as one of Melbourne's best leaders even thuogh he's a deadset clown off the field - when we need someone to turn it around for us he leads by example and he busts his gut to get us over the line.

Neitz does it, McLean does it, Bruce does it.

Admittedly Hawthorn don't exactly have an embarassment of riches in off field leaders but I really thought the time was right for Sammy or Luke to take over.

Melbourne has a talented forwardline but I still think Williams would get a spot. People tend to forget that he doesn't just kick set shot goals anymore. He has improved his crumbing skills. He is a bit goal hungry sometimes but if you wan't proof of what he can do at ground level as we well as in the air watch the R22 match vs Geelong. He definitely made Josh Hunt look second-rate.

You "don't have a role" for a bloke who's kicked 120+ goals in 2 seasons?

Wow, you must have some forward line.

yeah but as the main forard option, and you would be a fool to put him in front of Neitz (who is far superior), sorry, but his role just wouldn't fit.

Matthews, Tuck, Vandenburg. Pick the odd one out. Only a fool thinks that the captain doesn't need to be in the best players at the club, top 5 at least. Vandenburg has scraped into the top 10 only a couple of times through his career. He is a disgrace, the sooner they wake up and appoint Mitchell or Hodge the better.
