Ah ok. So he's taken the last 54 seasons and went from worst to best?:D

He did not show how he has done it - I suspect that he used win/loss ratios and scores percentage - the thread title is misleading and I say his rankings are on the nose regarding the quality of both the Premiers for the years and the quality of the opposition of the day - if statictically speaking had been in the thread title you wouldn't bother arguing the point

He has stats for 112 seasons apparently

I remember seeing the title of the thread and I immediately thought to myself 'yet another crap thread on the main board... I'll skip that one'. It looks like my initial thoughts were warranted:D. Honestly, I'm not sure why people even bother with those sort of threads because the only way you might even get remotely close to accurately depicting the best and worst premiership teams is if you see all 112 Grand Finals.

Pretty sure BlyndFreddie has been to all 112. ;)

Best team Of The Modern Era ? Every fair minded, open eyed football supporter could easily answer that.....two words....Brisbane Lions is your answer.

When Sydney won the flag, a dynasty was about to happen, when West Coast won the following year, a dynasty was about to happen, when Geelong won last year, a dynasty was about to happen, when Hawthorn won yesterday, a dynasty is about to happen (and it may well do), but if anyone needed reminding of the greatest team of modern times, yesterday proved it. Geelong, wonderful football team, 2 losses from the last 44....could they win 2 in a row ? They should have, but they didn't. Anyone on this forum who can't recall...Brisbane won three in a row and were basically a quarter of footy away from 4 in a row. I was fortunate enough to see this mighty team first hand, as I barrack for Collingwood, and it will take a long, long time for any team, to rival the mighty Lions of the early part of this decade.

Very well said again,Respect, You also forgot something, 2004- Port Adelaide, "Another dynasty was about to begin". LoL.

Probably the wisest thing written in this thread. Every year the same tags are placed upon the premiers, "furture dynasty", "will only get better next year", "hard to see who'll stop them next season" etc. the fact of the matter is that Brisbane has been the only team who has actually been able to live up to the hype and perform on the big day. The game yesterday has shown us what a remarkable achievement the Lions were actually able to do during their years at the top.

Unfortunately there can be no point of comparison if that team had more money than the other clubs in it's salary cap.. I mean any club could be a super power if it had players from two merged clubs and a slew of concessions on top

Yes, because Fitzroy was bursting at the seams with brilliant players:rolleyes:. Didn't we only get $300k in extra salary cap room? If this is the case, there's a high probability that we didn't exceed the standard salary cap anyway.

But you can't blame a Collingwood supporter for being bitter:p

I didn't see any other merged clubs with salary cap concessions around.. sorry you just can't make any claims if it wasn't an even playing field

I can if you can't respond with a reasonable answer. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a Collingwood supporter, I suppose.

clearly some unresolved issues from 02 and 03 i think.

so an even playing field would mean collingwood would play 1/2 their games away from home right ?? go interstate more than 2 or 3 times a whole season.

once the pies can travel as much as the great lions team did (and thats interstate flights for away games, not traveling 20 minutes by bus in the same city) and still make 4 grand finals winning 3 in a row, you can complain bout salary caps.

til that happens, just keep dreaming what if...

My apologies... I know you just got red carded from the Collingwood board for that. ;)

I have been reading all the different threads over the weekend, and can't believe what people have been writing, however everyone is entitled to their own opinon.

I am a huge lions fan, but I am a footy fan in general and love watching just a good game of footy.

I have been lucky enough to attend the grandfinals in 01,02,03,04,05&06!At the time I was very happy & excited with what the lions achieved.

But it has taken to now, to actually realise what the lions acheived in 01,02,03 & 04 (less the cup) was something very special to witness & phenomenal to look back on, as I don't think any team soon will achieve 3 cups in a row!

I don't need to be told if the lions team of 01,02,03 & 04 (less the cup) was the best team ever in the afl or of the modern era, because I know what there were back then, but I have a greater trill in telling people that I was able to witness in the flesh all 3 winning preimerships in 01,02,03 & their losing preimership in 04! :)

Something still cuts real deep. :D And isn't it wonderful!!!

Typical Brisbane! ESSENDON 99,00,01 would absolutley dominate you and Geelong. Its common knowledge Essendon went into the 01 Granny riddled with injuries, we were never going to provide a true contest so i would'nt be too convinced your mob were as good as you think. If Essendon were at full strength in 2001 the result would have been alot different.

you really are a monumental doosh bag..
one of the main reasons it's so hard to win consecutive flags is because of injuries.

in 2003 we limped into the GF, were given no chance by the media and won by 8 goals so using injuries as an excuse in 01 is a joke. that fact is you DIDNT win in 01 (or 99), and geelong DIDNT win in 08.

flags are the measure of success, not great H&A seasons.

Um, no. Almost everyone bar the most optimistic of Port supporters realised that 2004 was the last chance for a flag with that particular playing group. I cannot recall anyone anywhere predicting a Port dynasty, from memory most people expected St Kilda & Geelong to fight it out for the 2005 flag.

Brisbane's '01-'04 side was the best team of the modern era by the length of the Flemington straight and anyone who says otherwise simply has no idea. As a Port supporter I wish we had more than the one opportunity to truly test you guys on GF day but really the fact that we didn't highlights the difference between a great side and one who is merely very good.

When Collingwood where the team of the 1920's they done it on the back of the corrupt practises of their patron John Wren so they had better not babble too much. This team was built on the thieving of players from all the opposition teams with under the table payments. The authorities of the day did nothing to stop this corruption. There is no doubt that these premierships are tainted.
