Best Youth in the league - best teams in 3-5 years

started this thread on the lions board back in october. the talent at the dogs, giant, suns, melbourne is i agree more highly rated than the lions, although i do not think we are the basket case that many in the southern states assume we are.
at the time this was meant for lions followers only so naturally we come from a more positive opinion base. but i think our youth has some serious potential.:) i admit that the young talent at the other clubs mentioned is by and large more advanced. all players conform to this threads age premise.

GWS for me on this one, and the suns with a good run with injury and retention will be very good.
No love for Matho in that side?

Bulldogs are scary but Collingwood on account of the talent that they have secured recently- Adama, Teloar and Aish will all play over 200 games. De Goey has some Goey (sorry) and Darcy Moore is going to be an absolute gun. These are five players that could end up elite players for mine. Bulldogs are scarly similar. Bont and Stringer are unbelievable, Libba, McRae, could end up elite. Really like Hunter also.
I look over my own list and nothing jumps out. Daniher and Merrett will be ok but there is a gap. Undoubtedly the draft sanctions have hurt.

GWS by some distance I would have thought

A+: Shiel, Cameron
A: Haynes, Coniglio, Whitfield, Cameron McCarthy
B+: Hoskin-Elliot, Kelly, Steele
B: D Smith, Greene

Doesnt include: Buntine, Patton, Ahern, Pickett and other recent high pick draftees.

As a reference to the bulldogs:

A+: Bont
A: Libba, Stringer
B+: Macrae
B: Dahlhaus, JJ, Wallis, Hunter

GWS is very strong at the top end.

would be in there now, i did that side before the draft but assumed we would get schache, hipwood and keays. rhys was a big slider on draft night, he will be very good for us, i have been to a fair few training sessions and intra-clubs and he has got something special IMO wouldn't be surprised if he was in the side very early in the season.

Why the heck has nobody suggested our team, the mighty Gold Coast Sunburn. We are going to do much better than everyone thinks over the next three to five years. I mean, Gary Ablett, Dion Prestia, Jaeger O'Meara and David Swallow are all back from injury...what was that, they're still ****ing injured? Sam Day and Matthew Shaw are ready to take their games to the next level (finally after six ****ing years - I'll believe when I see it:rolleyes:) and have you seen who we selected in the draft last week? Our first selection, Callum Ah Chee, is almost 65kg dripping wet now let alone three to five years time! As for Jarrad Grant, I think he'll be a real smokey lol and I reckon we got him for a steal this year - possibly because the Dogs delisted him. On top of that, we've cleared out a couple of spuds in Charlie Dixon and Harley Bennell which really makes room for umm Jarrad Grant ....who will be much better in both of those positions anyway - our recruiters said he can do it all. There is no way we will be bottom 4, more like bottom 2 not like our rival team, GWS, who are absolute certainties for top 4. We've really pissed away all those concessions that were meant to turn us into a powerhouse and win multiple premierships.... Am I doing it right?

Not sure how Hoskin Elliott is rated above Smith, Greene, Dal, JJ, Wallis, Hunter and most of your GWS "doesn't include" list.

Great athlete, but performance wise is the most overrated young player in the AFL.

Devon is a class above Greene imo, agree with everything else.

Don't stress you will get more draft concessions.

Well said mate. Gave me a good laugh. Classic stuff and right on the money. I believe Zac Smith and Josh Caddy say hi to your boys too.
Bastards for how you rogered the Cats over those players.

Proof that eagles should be in this thread.

A+: McGovern, Gaff

B+ Cripps, Sheed, Duggan

Errr... How is Stringer not A+? All Australian, 56 goals in just his third year? Coming back from missing almost whole TAC cup year with a bad broken leg. Haynes, Coniglio, Whitfield, McCarthy(why is he even on this list atm?) will be lucky to even make a single All Australian ever. Joke.

Whitfield and Coniglio are A but Macrae is B+ ? You might want to check their stats. Macrae is younger than both yet averaged 26.8 disposals in his 2nd year and 26.4 and 4 clearances last year (his 3rd year). Infact his 2nd year is statistically better than any year either of them have played in their careers and he deservingly came 2nd in our BnF for it, whilst neither of those boys have finished top 4 in their BnF in a weaker team.

Dahlhaus and Devon Smith a rank below Hoskin-LOLiot? Ok, now you're just making shit up.

GWS no doubt have the most young talent in the league but you might want to double check your list. Or triple check.

Do not think Cripps is B+ by any stretch.
Sheed is still learning the caper. A long way from B+
Lycett is below B class too.
No way Gaff is A+...lol
He is a solid running mid but hardly A grade, let alone A +

I support Freo, we don't do da yoof.
As Hawthorn have shown, gameplan, good development pathways and senior talent form a club, that a smaller number of high quality kids can step into and do well.

Freo would surely be following a similar model, despite having a harder time recruiting top end talents.

Not bulk youth, but Bennell, Neale, Blakely and Weller are all exceptional. You just need to sort the KP situation and no reason Freo can't be challenging for the next couple of years.

An all Australian isn't a grade, what are you on mate? Lovett is one of the best rucks under 24 easily b grade. Cripps was in the top 10 small forwards last year. Shred is far better than many examples he used for gws.

Solid running mids don't get B&F in GF teams, or AA.

I agree roughly with your assessment, though Sheed projects as a high level prospect, but Gaff is def A-A+.
