The fact he was always talked up as a Test hopeful while never really showing any desire to play long form cricket for the best part of a decade always puzzled me.

So after my last post I have been trying to find reference to it

But I recall a few years ago he was snubbed really badly.

Along the lines of he was told (or at least heavily implied) he was going on a test tour so didn't play IPL so he could play FC, then they didn't pick him.

Something like that, but I can't find it so it could be a made up memory.

I went to a live podcast show where he was interviewed, it was about this time last year. Met him after, great bloke really friendly.

But part of his interviews on stage he mentioned his test career and how he still held hopes to play red ball cricket for Australia.

100% it happened. I reckon it was 2018 or 2019 he bypassed IPL as we probably had tours in India/UAE coming up and the talk was he was a "spin specialist" even though his record didn't do anything to justify that call.

Still he did what was asked of him and was overlooked but it was the risk he took, it wasn't like he should have had a walk up start in our test team no matter what. Probably gave up a mil or 2 doing that though

Apparently CA told NSW Cricket to play him in a shield game
