such a good indicator for North Adelaide and a bad indicator for Norwood

Davis (North's #3 key back behind McIntyre and White) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Young (Norwood's #1)

sorry, couldn't resist pumping up North :p

Fair point Riggy, but there is no chance McIntyre > Davis. You cant be serious. What an insult.

That was probably the individual highlight of the night for us :thumbsu: From what I saw tonight (and I must admit I haven't seen a lot of him at SANFL level...) he's really adept at using his body to make life difficult for his opponent at ground level. Without actually infringing his opponent (that's right umpire) he manages to prevent their access to the ball, all while keeping his own centre of gravity constant and edging towards the ball. Brilliant signs for a big dude :thumbsu:

Hopefully will become a real feature of his game once he puts on some more weight, which to my eyes he is finally starting to do.

he looks like hes got a heap of time when he gets the ball, must have a very good football brain:thumbsu:

I love his handpasses. He almost always choses the correct option and waits until the last second to handpass which basically eliminates another defender putting pressure on the new target. That and his kicking is sublime. Real find this bloke, should play the rest of the season and keep Stevens out once Bock is back.

At the game last night i noticed when coming out of the defence Davis was ignored as an option by his teamates. On two occassions i saw senior players bypass an open Davis for an under pressure more senior teammate. I understand that there needs to be a level of trust involved and synergy that develops over time. But from my perspective, i wanted them to go to Davis more often because you knew he would use it well. That's pretty cool if as a supporter you want that happening after only 2 games.

Yep, looks really good however he will be dropped next week. Not old enough to play.
Dont get too carried away , still got 3 goals kicked on him , One by WB first Gamer in Roughead and two by second Gamer Grant who arent very great players at the moment. Watch an experienced guy towel him up. Still too slow to play Centre Half Back in my eyes . I dont want to go back to a Ken McGregor CHB who doesnt provide any instinctive drive.
Would rather see him as a forward.

was at the game last night, first look at davis and was very impressed. Reminds me of jonno brown in the way he moves, dunno if thats just because he wears 16 as well lol. but has lots of composure and footy smarts. Great pick up

Excellent game for Phil but i just hope the coaches continue to play him in roles that suit his skill set and minimise his deficiencies (perhaps the antithesis of the Taylor Walker approach).

I for one do not see Davis as Andy Otten...he is far too slow for that and in today's modern forward structures I wouldn't like to see him as the '3rd tall' unless the opposition go strangely tall themselves.

The roles I'd like to see Davis in are: CHB or a swingman who rotates forward/loose defender.

Do not expose him against an agile FP/HFF opponent.

For full effect to play the positions he is best suited he'll need to gain a few kilo's again but i really hope the selectors find a way to keep him in the team this year.

Personally I'd try to isolate Bock as the 3rd tall instead and Stevens may get an early retirement.

This has to be one of the most stupid comments I've ever seen. Davis is a 2nd gamer too, has been in the system only as long as Roughead and for a year less than Grant. So what if he got a couple of goals kicked on him, he's a defender playing in a team that had 18 goals kicked against them, what a joke.

I dont want to go back to a Ken McGregor CHB who doesnt provide any instinctive drive.

For serious?

He's shown more instinctive drive in two games than the ficus did in his whole career. He's also shown more instinctive drive than half of his more experienced team mates.

Its fair to say that the Roughead one was bullshit, did good to prevent him from marking it but unfortunately the free was paid against him.

When I said he would be dropped, I was actually only being factious. Like how Walker wasn’t the worse player this year yet still got dropped.

He was actually pretty good for a player that allegedly wasn’t ready.

Instinctive drive means he hits the ground running and is a run & bounce player ala Bock. He aint that and look at his North Adelaide games and not just Crows games.

you've certainly got a very 'unique' outlook on things. :)
Well cmon tell me is he a run and bounce player. For North always looks to handball and goes sideways kick all the time as McGregor did. I We need run out of the Bcaklines and that why we are playing shit. When our backline is running it makes our mids get in the game and makes them look bettre than they are. This year there is no run from the backlines and the mids are being exposed and have shown they are not as good as we thought they were.

Hah...the Adelaide Football Club getting it right with two consecutive first round picks. What next, Port Adelaide winning contested ball?

I wont lie, I'm bloody surprised that Davis lasted longer than one game. Expected much more of a struggle against AFL standard bodies. You couldn't have asked for more from him thus far - if the club is serious about taking this list forward it'll reassess Stevens' status as a walk up start for a bit.
