When you look at where their material has come from and the way it's evolving it's pretty impressive. I think their songwriting on Luminiferous is outstanding.

The Sword last night was pretty good. They're a professional unit. Unfortunately the sound at Fowlers Live is almost always rubbish. The bass was so loud that it was drowning out some of the guitar harmonies and more intricate parts.
Luckily they're a good enough band that it didn't ruin the experience too much for me.
I'm digging High Country, but the songs that won the crowd over the most were the early ones. Freya and Tres Brujas in particular were awesome.

The Sword were great last night. Even though I'm not so much into High Country, the material from it sounded quite good in a live setting. Fortunately we had no problems with the sound, and the guitar harmonies sounded just as sweet as they do on record. J.D.'s vocals are spot on live, but even the backing vocals of Brian and Kyle were solid, too. Like you said, the earlier stuff got the best reaction (tres brujas was second), but at no point did they lose the crowd.

A really good gig, and I'm glad I went, even if it's not a style I usually listen to. If they come back, I'll plan on going again.

Looking forward to 1349 this weekend, which is more in the vein of what I normally listen to (had Beyond the Apocalypse on today).

So, the best band on Earth, Voyager have released their new single

Just wanted to come here and point out how much I love it when pommy bands do the southern heavy swagger as good as any American band.

Like some early stuff a lot like Von, Krieg, Profanatica, GBK and Absu. Leviathan and Xasthur probably less classical faves. Black Witchery from the article are great as well and a it was interesting to hit Reeperbahn with them for drinks and more as well...

But a lot of the newer stuff feels a bit soulless.
Inquisition are right up there!

So the new Rotting Christ album is bloody fantastic. Thy're doing nothing particularly new, but what they do they do damn well.

I'm really enjoying the simplistic nature of the new stuff. Reminds me of the kind of feeling that I got from Celtic Frost's Monotheist.

Interesting choice of pic for cd sleeve by Abbath. Might be making a subtle point?

It's very tribal, rhythmic. Gets a bit repetitive IMO. Great production though.
Yep. I always like to see bands trying new things. Im kicking myself I didnt see them live the last couple of times. How much fun does this look?
