A big thank you to GN80 for the thread idea.

Mike Sheahan, Karl Langdon, Mark Ricciuto. What do they know about the Top 50 AFL footballers? BigFooty must surely be more knowledgable than those pundits.

I'll tally up the votes and in one week's time, announce the collective BigFooty Top 50. All you have to do is come up with your idea of the best 25 players in the competition.

As to what you think are the top 25 - it can be either current or predicted. We'll leave that for each poster to decide.

So without further ado:

1) Post your top 25 players in order in this thread.
2) Alternatively, you can also PM me if you do not want to make your list public.
3) No discussion or justification is required - we can do that when all the votes are in. (Or talk now in the discussion thread)

The one who had a list closest to the actual top 25 on BF may even win a prize.*

For the record, counting is done on a 1 = 25 votes, 2 = 24 votes and so on, down to 25 = 1 vote.

It would also be great if posters put Kennedy (Syd) and things like that to remove confusion. Or maybe S/J Selwood. At the moment I've assumed everyone voting Kennedy means JPK from Sydney and Selwood means Joel.

3-Watson. Reigning Brownlow and a great leader. Could push higher if he improves again
4-Franklin. At his best, unstoppable and a match winner
5-Mitchell. Tough inside and precision disposal on both sides. Cool under pressure to boot
6-Cotchin. Class, leadership and consistently one of the best
7-Goodes. Endless motor with silky skills, endurance and the ability to win a game in the toughest of circumstances. Legend of the game
8-J Selwood. See Cotchin. Slotted into the greatest team ever and hit the ground running
9-J Kennedy. Engine, Strength and ability. His evolution is the perfect narrative of the swans re-birth
10-Swan. Accumulates a lot of ball through fitness and gut running. Modern day Cousins. Set the benchmark a few years back when it came to AFL fitness levels
11-Pavlich. See Goodes.
12-Hawkins. Strong marking forward you build premierships around. Came of age as the best true forward in the game in the last 2 years
13-Cox. Best ruckman of the last decade
14-Thompson. Best inside grunt midfielder going round and consistent for years.
15-Dangerfield. Breakout year and will prove a lot if he takes his game up another level. Potential brownlow medallist for 2013
16-Beams. One of the most dangerous distributors.
17-Fyfe. Started to set the world on fire before being injured. Versatile and classy
18-Glass. Quality leader, strong defender and a lynchpin in the eagles defence.
19-Goddard. Versatile in defence, in the middle and up forward.
20-S Jacobs. Best tap to advantage ruckmen around and very good around the ground.
21-Judd. Close to Thompson as one of the best grunt midfielders.
22-Murphy. See Cotchin. Looking to catch up with his peers after injury, but still up there in the top echelon
23-Cloke. On his day, probably the strongest mark and one of the best long kicks.
24-Richards. Best in a very a good defence.
25-Fletcher. Backline General with class and composure under pressure and the most creative defender with or without the ball

Tried to balance this in terms of midfielders, forwards, defenders and rucks.
I have not put Walker in yet. A good year and stepped up when Tippett was missing, but needs a year holding that forward line down before i can gauge him
Tigers fans will no doubt jump on the absence of Riewoldt. But with 5 key forwards in there, i struggled to select another, and Buddy, Hawkins, Pav, Goodes and Cloke are ahead of him.
Im line ball on 25. I think Harry Taylor could have a call on that final defender spot, but i give extra credit to fletcher for the time he has been doing for and the fact his head still remains ahead of the games pace.


Apologies to N Riewoldt, Hayes and Brent Harvey, who were all up for spot 25.
