Sticks out that Winder, who had I think in most minds a disappointing year, who is arguably on the delist pile, who wasn't as fit as he could have been...

Still finished above All Australians Andrew Gaff and Liam Ryan despite playing about 10 less games than either of them. Sums up our year.

A lot of things sum up our year.
And NONE of them were good.

Young, untried players like Winder do get a bit of a boost on these types of polls though. When the Club doesn't have anything to play for we all focus on the youth. Conversely the senior players not up to their usual form also get more harshly treated. I guess it's all about expectation.

That said, I don't think these biases are enough to explain a player like Winder finishing above players like Ryan/Gaff, expecially given games played.

I'll give credit where its due for Winder. Although I suspect the result says more about Gaff and Ryan than him.

Well this is a funny one. I don't think anyone (besides his dad) would say that Winder was one of the 20 best players on our list in 2022 but this is just the way the votes have fallen. He only received votes in 1 out of his 6 games but that happened to be a Best on Ground performance in Round 10 v GWS where he had 10 disposals and kicked 3 goals.

A decent year from O'Neill who stood up on several occasions when needed. Still needs to work on finding the footy a bit more regularly but his career best game against the Magpies in Round 4 where he recorded 24 disposals showed he is capable. O'Neill put on a bit of size for this season and hopefully is able to build on his year next season as Redden's has become available.

Has Carbine Chaos had a few early crushes again?
I remember, I think it was last year, he seemed to be crushing on everyone, particularly early. Like he had twice the votes!
Only O'Neill, Jamieson and Petrevski-Seton so far.

Seems like CC voted a bit more with the pack this season.

Fairly strong placing for O'Neill. I think he'll be with the club for a while, does the team things, keeps on improving every year, nice one X!

A board favourite this year but struggled with injury and then for opportunity. Clark made his AFL debut in Round 7 vs Richmond and had his best game for the season with 24 disposals, 7 marks and 6 tackles. He also recorded a whopping 10 tackles in Round 12 v the Crows. Hopefully he gets more time as an inside mid next season as this is clearly where he plays his best footy.

WTF! I'm shocked by this, lets be real he has not had a better season than Gaff!

I'm shocked he got votes outside his first game.

Hoping he really improves next year after a big pre season.

One good game this year, and it could mean the difference between 15th and 30th.

Statistically, Witherden had a fairly good year but some have him in the delist pile for 2022. Witherden never got less than 19 disposals in his 13 games and tallied a career high 34 disposals in Round 6 vs Port Adelaide. Seemed to manage to take marks and find the footy but remains to be seen if he is capable of playing in a more fast paced backline.

Another season wrecked by injuries for Yeo who finally returned from the dreaded OP to be effectively be wiped out be 3 other seperate injuries. Feels like we are being robbed of him as he was right on the edge of being one of the superstar midfielders of the game before his injuries. Yeo returned to the backline this year to give us some drive from defence and probably save his body given he had a light preseason. He was back to his backline best in there and had his best game on return in Round 14 as a halfback, racking up 22 disposals and 9 marks and being awarded best on ground with 4.16 votes. Desperately need him back to his best in 2023.

He copped it a bit on this board as his averages are a bit low but he is a young ruck and should be given time. Put up a few decent showings like 18 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 22 hitouts and a goal in Round 19 v St Kilda as well as his Best on Ground performance in Round 23 v Geelong where he recorded 25 disposals, 6 marks and 16 hitouts.

An unusually poor year for Nic who has one our past two awards by some margin. He was hampered by injury most of the year and struggled through a knee problem which kept him out for a big chunk. When he played he often didn't have his usual impact and his best game statistically was Round 16 v Richmond where he recorded 16 disposals, 26 hitouts and a goal which was also his highest polling round for the year. Highest hitout count for the year was 35 v Adelaide in Round 21.

Not a bad year for the flowing mullet who managed 14 games in his first full season. Had a good run of games between Rounds 6 and 12 where he polled each week which included a Best on Ground performance against Melbourne in Round 9 where he recorded 29 disposals, 3 marks and 7 tackles. Seems to be handy depth although remains uncontracted for 2023.

Was a board favourite early in the year and polled in every week from Rounds 2-8. Naish sat in the top 10 for most of the season despite not playing since Round 12. Rioli finally returned from his 2 year suspension in 2022 and did so with a bang - recording 18 disposals and kicking 4 goals vs North Melbourne in his second game back which also netted him Best on Ground honours. He also kicked 3 the following week against the Magpies and again against the Bombers in Round 15. At the end of the season Rioli decided that he needed more support so he requested a trade out of the club that supported him during his suspension and to Port Adelaide instead.
