I just thought he didn’t know what they look likeThe angle I'm running with now is Murphy doesn't touch the ball in fourth quarters because he's not very fit

I’m going with teammates won’t give him the ballThe angle I'm running with now is Murphy doesn't touch the ball in fourth quarters because he's not very fit

& he can football.Taylor is fitter than Murphy
I used to like Rachele but I refuse to support anyone on a leadership journey
Tell RoweyBecause he's so unfit
The 4th quarter is really the time you need those non statistical type players to go full non statisticalThe angle I'm running with now is Murphy doesn't touch the ball in fourth quarters because he's not very fit
You're talking about different things. This is where the overarching direction of the club, the list and the 22 needs to be really clear in the coaches' minds.
There will be several players whose career is on the line:
Schoenberg
Smith
Laird (as a starting mid)
Pedlar
Milera
Murphy
This is where you can see highly motivated preseasons. In the past we've been guilty of allowing dazzling November-February periods to colour our thinking and on-field performance from the previous season gets forgotten.
Frampton/Himmelberg both played themselves into our forward line off the back of strong preseasons, following dismal seasons. It then takes us a third of the season to be reminded what we already know.
The coaches must not take a "spots are up for grabs" mindset into the preseason. The preseason only exists to aid/improve a player's in-season performance. It is not an alternative or a substitute for on-field output.
Smith for instance is a player we seemingly moved past in 2024. Let's imagine he puts in a strong preseason including practice matches.
That's fine. But it's not a ticket back into the 22. It should just be part of the picture.
Is he also performing well in the SANFL early in the season?
Is he fully fit and backing up well week-in, week-out or is he starting to show his age?
How is our back half performing at AFL level? Is there a spot available?
Is the team in a position to push for finals now, meaning that a 30+ year old can be brought in on performance?
If the answer to any of those questions is No, then he doesn't come in. Preseason performance be damned.
I hope this is where Murray Davis can provide input and direction.
They already changed their mind during last seasonYou're talking about different things.
The coaching group has made a decision on Smith and done the hard thing of dropping him. They're not going to change their mind and say they're wrong due to some good off season running.
Himmelburg being brought in after a good offseason isn't that - the club was always hopeful it would click with him. Some bad past form didn't mean his card was stamped.
Poor Berg. He teased us so much and always let us down. Hope he does better at his new club. You're talking about different things.

Just going by memory here, but once Smith was demoted to SANFL last year he did eventually seem to pull finger and re-found some good fitness and form. You're talking about different things.

Booted a few goals in a Showdown win IIRC, he'll always have that.Poor Berg. He teased us so much and always let us down. Hope he does better at his new club.
Played very well at SANFL level. Hope to see him as SANFL captain in 2026. Great club man.Just going by memory here, but once Smith was demoted to SANFL last year he did eventually seem to pull finger and re-found some good fitness and form.
They already did exactly this, last seasonThey made a decision on Smith and dropped him.
They're not going to go "oh, we were clearly wrong, let's rush him back in.". They know where they stand
Exactly rightJust going by memory here, but once Smith was demoted to SANFL last year he did eventually seem to pull finger and re-found some good fitness and form.
We did the same with Crouch in 2023.They already did exactly this, last season
If there is one thing we're elite at, it's going back to tried, failed options repeatedlyWe did the same with Crouch in 2023.
Jimmy Rowe in late 2022 also.If there is one thing we're elite at, it's going back to tried, failed options repeatedly
Theres almost no chance that if weve got 30 players available, we go back to SmithIf there is one thing we're elite at, it's going back to tried, failed options repeatedly
