Shrewd pick up was Billy. Have to be the bargain buy of the off season league wide wouldn’t he?
It’s tricky, because we also got Mitchelll for peanuts and are having Hawthorn pay a fair whack of his salary!

I was happy he was recruited as it was a cheap hole filler, but no one expected him to be this versatile. Genuinely rapt that he's able to play his career-best footy with us, and that he and the coaches have worked to bring it out of him. I don't reckon he's hit his ceiling yet, either.
I think many on here were under the assumption we recruited him for his versatility.

I must have missed that - I was focussing on the defence aspect even though I knew he had played forward in the past.

We didn't recruit him for his versatility.
We 100% recruited him to play back.

Hasn't panned out like that....but we didn't recruit him with versatility at the forefront of our mind.

You’re correct, his versatility was just a plus. I just disagree with it being a surprise though as many posters mentioned it beforehand.

Has had one good moment up forward. Nice mark and finish in the 3rd.

One of Billy Elliott’s goals could easily have gone to Frampton but he pulled out and Billy took the mark one-handed.

A two-goal game as a forward and he’s looking ok.

Prefer him back though.

It does look like he's pegged as our spare parts man and won't lock down a spot this year. I think that's unlucky, because he's been pretty good.

Even today when our defence was having trouble, he wasn't sent back there, so seems we're happy with our mix. Don't see him being picked as a forward when we have a full team. Cameron's last two weeks in the ruck have been great. Only chance would be against Cox, but would expect Mase to get the nod.

We conceded 11 shots to Naughton and Ugle-Hagan I can’t wrap my head around why he wasn’t pushed back.
Yup pretty crazy.
Murphy just can't go with either of them. And Howe had a poor night.

Yeah, shame we didn’t have the luxury of playing him back last night and seeing how he fitted against probably the in form forward combo in the comp.

Maybe he’s been given an assignment the last few weeks, and the coaches want him to focus on those assignments whilst we have gaps in the forward line?

Most of those 11 shots were due to our defence getting caught out on the rebound positionally so I’m not sure Frampton into D50 would have changed that too much. Needed more control through the midfield and on our F50 entry.

It's apparent to me that Fly and the coaching staff are trying many and varied gameplans and positions for different lads. Their reluctance to immediately react to adversity (such as in the first quarter) is a credit to them. They are building resiliency and confidence in the team. They are also developing some great flexibility in our personnel which will bode well for us in the long run.

What did you all think of billy last night. Cameron kicked 7, coulda had more but I felt like he looked faster and more expressive with his punches then I've ever seen. He keeps his spot. Wonder if Moore comes back, and billy is completely given freedom and backing to be manic like he was tonight if he could take the ruck.
