I think he plays out the rest of the 2023 season + finals in the starting 23.

I am not 100% sold on him as our shut down stopper, however I think he obviously plays that full back role while Moore is out.

When Moore returns, he stays in the side as the ruck/back (20% ruck, 50% back, 30% bench). Moore will be a risk in finals with his Hammy so at least Frampton provides on field cover for that scenario.

Frampton was excellent. Most of Cameron's goals were from little hand passes and a couple of shocking non calls. A few kicks hit him lace out with him diving to take the pill and nobody can stop that. In the genuine one on ones he did well and got in a few excellent thumping defensive punches. He's more mobile than I thought and is good at ground level too.

Thought so also. Most of Cameron's goals were kicked on Maynard who was a poor choice to oppose him.

I was about to say the same thing. I’m pretty sure Maynard had him in the first quarter when he kicked 3.

I don’t think you could hold Billy responsible for the BS hand pass receive that was out of bounds or the Joe the goose in the last.

Billy gets Daniher next week and I reckon he’s a good match up for him. Will get 2 metre Peter the following week.

I heard an South Aussie commentator on SEN today. He was partnering Gibbs. Any way he was stating that the only team in the top 8 he got wrong was Collingwood who he had out of the 8 at the start of the year. He added, "But they won't win the flag!" When asked why he said, "Any team with Billy Frampton in it cannot win a flag."

I hope Fly or someone at the club heard it. Pass it on to Billy as added motivation. The smug tone only added to the arrogance of his proclamation.

yeah i dont think hes that good going in the ruck, leave mcstay doing that role and leave billy down back just like we did with roughy.

What an idiot.

au contraire, I would say Billy Frampton has already played a massive role - through the first half of the season, when we cemented our good placing on the ladder for a serious challenge. He stood up when Howe went down in round one, then was chopping out in the ruck in round 4 when Cox and then Cameron went out, and round 5 onwards, was our number one ruck.

With the massive KPP injuries we had this year, our season would have been done early if not for Billy. He's also been good for a goal in most games he's played.

Seems to lack the natural defensive instincts a bit. Not sure what to make of him down back.
I guess you have to remember he was a ruck/forward as a junior which continued at Port in the SANFL for a number of years, Crows played him in defence a little bit & now at Collingwood. He looked decent earlier in the year perhaps filling roles elsewhere when needed has caught up with him a bit & messed with his form.

I love what Billy did for us this season. No one predicted his contribution to be so big and him to turn out to be incredibly handy depth when we had KP injuries. Especially when we had no ruckman.
Unfortunately I don’t think he’s grabbed this latest opportunity like I would have hoped. Didn’t look like a bloke desperately playing for his spot. Looked more like he’s already resigned to the fact he’ll be making way for Moore and Murphy regardless of how he played.
Still like when he’s in the side but he needs Moore too. He can free up Moore to he the A grade interceptor he is. But don’t see how we fit him in the side.

He's good depth to have on the list for his versatility but he just doesn't have the game IQ to play in defence and is useless up forward. His only real spot would be as the 2nd ruck/utility in the Leigh Brown role, which I actually don't hate him in.

For all the talk about his size and that being the reason we need him in defence, he's really quite poor 1v1 and going in with Moore and Murphy is a much better alternative.

I think we considered playing him as a second ruck from defence, but have decided against it. Injuries cloud the issue, but I feel like we've decided to play Cox as the second ruck and keep Howe in defence with the potential to swing.

He's simply just lost without Moore & Murphy covering him IMO

This is it, he can play in a system that supports him, but if he were able to be the lone banana, he would never have been available to us in the first place.

I’m ok with him missing if we play Melbourne, but playing Moore on Dixon against Port would be a mistake in my book, I want Frampton to have that role and then back it up against Daniher if it goes that way. Reading the play and zoning off is not going to be his “one wood”, but I think he can clamp down on a guy and beat them with strength/mobility. Moore can be the whack-a-mole.

Also, that free against Frampton was bullshit, his arm was being held over the forward’s shoulder, even Hodge called it out.

He's not great 1 on 1. He's an interceptor, but that role belongs to Moore and Howe. Murphy is undersized, but far better 1 on 1.

His best footy this year, by far, was in the ruck.

He’s fine in a negating role, and he’s good dropping into a hole and intercepting. He’s no good at knowing when to leave his man, that’s where he gets caught out.

We need to glue him to Dixon and Daniher. Against Melbourne we’re probably comfortable with Murphy on Van Rooyen and Moore taking Fritsch.

I doubt he'll hold his place. I suspect we'll stick with 2 rucks and despite Framptons preferred dimensions, Murphy and Howe are simply much better footballers.
