my point is that north arent fighting for survival against swans and freo, essendon or collingwood. they are up against the richmonds and stkildas of the world, and should at least have similar deals compared to them.

Hmm don't know. But at least we are trying to get a stadium deal. Shareholders are making Arocca's job alot harder to negotiate a stadium deal.

north havent played home games at arden street for, what, 20 or 30 years?
there home was the mcg for as long as i can rememeber

Ok, fair enough there, the AFL did however close options such as waverly, and made it very difficult on the dogs and collingwood to keep there own grounds in quite recent years and didnt handle carlton with optus oval particularly well.

The issue being the AFL kicked clubs out of there own grounds promising new better stadiums which would make them good money, it hasnt come true.

They did this to Collingwood and Essendon and Carlton too. Or at leats twisted their arm to move.

North moving from their home ground 23 years ago is hardly an excuse to be getting free money now. What kind of incentive is that to do well and be your best?

Not everything is fair in business. And it shouldn't be artificially "made" fair. That stifles the football economy.

Geelong Council....but they rent it out for free to the Cats....because The Cats are Geelong (in the deeper sense)

That makes sense then. Not that 'hilarious' at all. Lower break even point combined with keeping all the profit means $$$.

So what the Kangas have been at the G for how long now?

And they still dont get a good deal?

Wake up. The grounds run on Reserved seating members, Corporate etc if you dont bring at least 40k average crowds and those things listed you aint ever going to get a good deal. The AFL should not compensate a team because they cant match the bigger teams.

James was showing figures of average crowd between us, the dockers, swans and, lions

The rough figures from memory were:

Average crowd

Lions - 28k
Roos- 36k
Swans 35k
Freo - 37k

The amountof money they earn from stadiums

Roos - 5.1 mill
Lions 9.1 mill
Freo 12.5 mill
Swans - i forgot but it was much bigger than ours

Don't all those teams also have higher ticket prices?

because that would show North up as having crap crowd sizes......brayshaw is just a wank who was trying to manipulate the argument to favour himself

Im not saying the issue is clubs getting moved out of there home grounds, its issues such as the taken away bargaining options, such as aletrnative venues. CLubs are forced to negotiate without any bargaining power, they cant shop around and use other deals to try to negotiate other options, the AFL got rid of all other options.

all of those clubs are non vic clubs who dont get to a lot of supporters from the opposition clubs.

North, dogs and dees should net get any of this competitive balance fund its not fair on other clubs,Supporters of those clubs will say we dont get our fair share of blockbusters and get poor stadium deals etc, the reaosn for that is that they dont draw the crowds and dont bring in the high ratings so its their problem.

Only just realised that this hadnt come out, but werent both north and the dogs stadium deals actually negotiated by the AFL on behalf of the clubs? perhaps the AFL know they have short changed these clubs?

Doesn't mean you take it away from them? They still have the right to get their fair share of games.

The AFL is a money hungry pig now adays.

Yep, we weren't able to negotiate the deals. The deals were done by the AFL.

The issue being the AFL kicked clubs out of there own grounds promising new better stadiums which would make them good money, it hasnt come true.

wrong the clubs couldn't afford to have the own stadiums. It cost geelong over $40 million to build the reg hickey stand and over $10 million for geelong to build the ford stand.Thats not even half the ground their is no way that clubs like north or the dogs could afford their own stadiums without outside help

2 Grounds Mate.

9 Melbourne based teams.

We all have to play at these grounds.

We all have to negotiate deals at these grounds.

The simple fact is: What a team brings to the table to negotiate a good deal.

The Kangaroos & Bulldogs will never be able to bring what Carlton,Collingwood,Essendon,Richmond,Hawthorn etc bring its as simple as that. they will never get the deals the other clubs get.......so why should those other clubs be penalised for it? Being compensated is an easy cop out.

I dont think the afl has a choice, broadcasters and sponsors want clubs who will rate to be in the blockbusters otherwise they will make less money.

also im not sure if north get any less blockbusters than the likes of geelong, sants and hawks.I think its just pies and dons who get more.

Well it depends doesn't it.

Well at least i know that we are negotiating a deal for the first time.

Don't all those teams also have higher ticket prices?

And most importantly, far far higher corporate income.

How the ____ do you earn money from stadiums? Hate to break it to you buddy, but the stadium costs Freo $3 million a year. It costs money, it doesn't make it.

You don't make money from stadiums, you make money from crowds, corporates and other sponsors.

Yet me get a better average, yet make less? Hows that work out?

Charge far less for tickets, earn ____ all in corporate box and coterie income and a lot of stadium members get in for no extra charge.

But like i've said before, until someone actually says what the stadium deal is, I can't really say definitively that it's a bad one.
Do you know what it is? If not, how can you be sure it's a poor deal? If so, can you tell us?

We live in a free market society. Why then, does North need to be compensated? It's like Aldi, saying they are disadvantaged because they don't have the "brand name" of Safeway and don't have as many customers as a result, so, just give them more money to make up for it. Where is the incentive to be your best and make your way in the world if the ruling body (the government or in THIS case the AFL) is just going to give you cash to make up for your shortcomings?

Last time I checked the socialist nature of the AFL is not confined to clubs making money. It is confined to the salary Cap, but a sucessful club who has built a strong culture through strong people can still make lots of money through good management.

And yet we have clubs like North getting money because they don't have the "clout" of the bigger clubs in regards to stadium deals. Sorry, but that's just bad luck in a free market.

Since when did North fans all become communists?

!! Oh no! The AFL are socialists! There's a Red North Melbourne - Brayshaw Brigade official under every bed!! Kill them! Burn them! Quick, call Team America: World Police!!!

You snapper head...

Thats the crux of it. Why should the other clubs (ie AFL) pay North millions because of a stadium deal they cant/wont negotiate. I'd rather see that money pumped into grass roots footy where it really benefits footy players. At the moment it just goes straight to the coffers of Telstra Dome.

If North admire Sydney and Brisbane deals so much, move there and enjoy them.

Does the Roos average crowd include GC games, or just Victorian games.? Does the Roos money figure include the $1.2m from GC games ?
