Parthian at the 3rd at Warwick Farm came home very fast in his first race and also got in some trouble in the straight. But only just missed out in his first race, i think he would be one to watch.

Demerit

A 3yo Lonhro colt owned by Darley who just brained a maiden field in the first at Cranbourne.
He ran second to Black Caviar on debut and then was turned out, returned today and won without being touched.
On target for the Caulfield Guineas and despite the average opposition, i was impressed enough to have a dabble at the 70's for the Guineas.

I have to bump this one after his prelude win on the weekend.

I don't know if he can win the Guineas given how inexperienced he is (he's still no certainly to actually run), but i'm stoked to have taken the 70's given he's about a 10/1 chance now.

keep an eye on a winner from Sandown yesterday...Tintern, star in the making.

it was a 1400m race and they crawled along, Tintern sat 2nd last coming into the straight and stormed home beating a couple of Lee Freedman's horses who had cushy runs up front

I posted this back in Feb '08.

Just noticed Tintern is in the next at Sandown, it's 2nd start after coming back from an 80 week spell.

Tintern didn't end up going to the sales it's still one of Lloyd Williams'. I have no idea what happened to it but in it's comeback race came 4th at Geelong a fortnight ago.

Really nice run again from him I think. Strong tempo suited and he made up good ground, tight finish, late swooper claiming them all late. Hard to say if he's back to his best/getting there (i.e. star in the making), but the fact Lloyd has held onto him for that year and a half is a good sign. Considering that was his second run back after so long out, it was good.

Winner was silly overs and is a promising type as well.

I was watching the trials the other day on TVN and I saw a horse by the name of Ruse De Guerre at Cranbourne. It was not extended at all and only just missed on the line. It is an unraced No Excuse Needed gelding(same sire as daffodil) for Pat Carey. It's in tomorrow at Sale. Will be watching with interest.

Thought it would be good to give a shout out to those who have identified some major race players in this thread!

A few highlights though:
Rizzo was onto Denman before he even started!
Rough_Edges was onto Vigor after he won a few shitty off-season races...

I'll chuck EMERALD POACHER in there for a short term BB. Will win a country cup along the way IMHO.

Also Denman haha got it before it made it to the track!

While we are on untried Snowden horses, one that I have had marked away is FAINEANT. Doing my form for the weekend and noticed it is in a 1300m race in Geelong.

Nice breeding, and its two trials have been sound against group winning opposition. 1300m first up will suit, will be looking for the mile I would suspect.

Looked good didn't it?

Another bloomer today was Swarm a full brother to Purrealist who ran a fast finishing 2nd today after bungling the start. Looks to have put it together after a slow start to it's career.

Pretty - 3yo Filly by Pins out of Escada - Danny O'Brien.

Races in the same colours as Glamour Puss, Splashing Out (?) and others i can't think of.

Debuted today in a 3yo 1000m maiden at Bendigo.

Obviously the 1000m was too short, got back and wide, got knocked sideways at the top of the straight and came home nicely for 5th.

Scratched from Geelong tomorrow!
But nominated for a couple of days next week

Sand Hawk.

Coming across from NZ to run 27 Sept Caufield.

UPDATE:

Running Mornington this Sat, Race 6 No 4.

Connections tell me that horse has settled in well after trip across the ditch. Bringing good NZ form and likes the heavy going so it's looking good so far.

King Pulse very impressive debut win at Geelong. Sat on speed and blew them away with a turn of foot in the straight. Reminded me of First Command a bit. Trained by Moroney and Rodd won't be jumping off in a hurry

Few blackbookers going around in the 1st tommorow at the Valley should be an interesting race

Avienus - me
Ruse De Guerre -Eastaugh36
Agrippa- Lockyer24

Another to watch out for which has been nominated for the first at flemington on saturday

Sweet Cheeks- if accepted will be its first start and trialled impressively the other week, will be keeping an eye on her progress

Viva Madre is certainly one to watch. In the Ross McDonald stable and had a soft win by 4 lengths two starts back, untouched. Has only had the three starts, so one to keep an eye on for the future no doubt.

That Bendigo race has been quite a hot form race with Hidden Charges (8th), Dempsey (6th), Off the Planet (4th) all subsequently winning, Salicone (2nd) ran a reasonable race at Sandown last week after being caught 4 wide most of the way and the winner of the Bendigo race Undercurrent coming out at Caulfield, it was well supported in the betting (2nd fav behind the contankerous Trounce) and racing most ungenerously and still being a chance at the 150m only to fade late and finish 4 lengths behind the good filly Gibraltor Moon. Undercurrent may be a natural leader by the way he raced, certainly not happy being sat one out one back by Nikolic.

Pretty 5th at Bendigo (Ballarat-Thursday) and Lady La Bend 3rd Bendigo (Kyneton-Friday) are due to race this week and worth following.

BTW King Pulse (Geelong last week) is a very good horse, I reckon he could be a chance in either the Red Anchor or Coolmore soon, at Geelong he appeared to be jog-trotting and spanked a bunch of so-so horses without shifting out of 2nd or 3rd gear, it will be interesting to see if any of that field frank the form in the next few weeks

Martindale Hall - Darren Weir trained 3yo filly by Lonhro who won the first at Swan Hill today by 9L! Quickest 975m time of the day by over 1sec. Jumped well, went forward, sat one off the fence in the lead, was shaken up with 400 left and started to go away from them. Of course a query over the opposition, but that's a pretty good win in anyone's language.
She's nominated for the 1000 Guineas and surely after this performance, the city beckons next...
In the second at MV today. Back to 1200 and not bad EW value with the claim at $4.60.

Ran third. Honest run without troubling the winner.

Good stuff!! Had some on him, so paid off nicely. Sounded like a very good MV ride by Ollie. When I find out what's next, you guys will be the in the know. May have qualified for the Cup with that win - not sure.

Passed the first ballot clause and has moved from 98th to 63rd in the elimination order.

One that worked home well behind the well bred Groovy Choice for 3rd at Ballarat was a first starter from the Clinton McDonald stable called Shabtis. Probably looking for 1200m + and might be worth keeping an eye on.
