Not going to disagree there with you for 1st Grade KB but i think City maybe more of a show in the final than everyone thinks. They are building momentum and could be peaking at the right time of the season.

Think it will be a Cardiff Vs Warners final in under 18's. Having seen both teams in the last 2 weeks play, i think on current form Warners have their noses in front for the flag.

Ressies, I think City's ressies are the form side at present. If they continue on present course, i dont think anyone will beat them in the final unless the old choke makes an appearence.

Having just looked at the results ( which you obviously didn't ) Cardiff beat Warners in round 9 in 18's by 31 points.

City's ressies have lost 2 of their last 3 games, including a 54 point loss to Cardiff last weekend.

Where does your so called observed form come from?

Holy dooley, 31 points? 54 points? Unbeatable!

I've decided to switch my allegiance and follow Nelson Bay. I'm so pleased they won in the firsts last week, and not in a patronising way.

I never said Cardiff were unbeatable, but maybe you're right, they are.

As for being patronising Miss BD, i apologise the truth makes you feel that way, from now on i will live in a dream land where Usingtheforce is loved by all, Gosford are premiers and Warners Bay players are against drug use.

Our 18's which unfortunately is no where near what they were for the past few years have played Cardiff and Warners in the past 2 weeks. Warners seemed to be the better side of those 2 we played against.

Oh dear, KB, I wasn't even talking about you when I said I didn't mean to be patronising! I was genuinely chuffed that NB broke their losing streak and I've always had a lot of respect for them...travelling extremely long distances and still exhibiting commitment even though they weren't achieving success. I'm sorry to burst your bubble though.

I'm not even going to deign your comment about Warners Bay with a response. If that's what you have to resort to, then I feel sorry for you.

Yeah go the Bay!!! They are a good bunch of blokes great to see them get a win. Also Singleton travel a long way and have won there last 2, good for the league as the hunter is a major growth area and the best young talent seems to be bred up that way!!

At the other end its sad to see the season start to take its toll on Maquarie...after taking on premiers now starting to fall away:(

So does anyone have any reports on their respective games so far. Scores for all grades would be good?

Cardiff 65.29.419 def Lake Macq 4.2.26 at Bill Elliott today. One would have to assume a statement was being made. Shame for the three players who didn't manage to kick a goal.

City and Gosford also made statements and the upset of the round goes to Terrigal Avoca defeating Warners Bay.

Any thoughts??

News of the 3 players who didnt kick a goal have even reached the land of afar. Should they be dropped ???

Cardiff 400+ Lake Mac 27...............

Hey Borgs, were you umpiring that game?? Havent seen a score line like that in 1st Grade in any comp for a long time. You guys would have got pretty tired balling it up at the centre all the time. Did Lakes field a full side or was it they didnt match up well and Cardiff guns ran riot??

This would have to be an Australian Rules record score and also winning margin? Wouldn't it? Wonder if the big boss in Melbourne and also the boys at NSW/ACT AFL have heard of this result yet?

On a serious note with regards to this score in particular, but also with the other winning scores and margins, does anyone have any ideas on how to make the competition more equal. Also how does the League get over the problem with Nelson Bay only having Seniors and Singleton only having Reserves and U.18's. I am lead to believe that these 2 teams have until next season to have all 3 sides each or they will be out of the comp.

Unfortunately something has to be done not only at a local League level, but also at a Regional Level (Hunter/Central Coast) and ultimately at a State level to try and get the teams on a more equal footing. If this is not done, sooner rather than later, I feel that some of the teams on the receiving end of some of these hidings will find that their player number will be reduced to stage where the clubs will not be able to field sides. Then the dreaded forfeit will come into play.

Is it a case of teams having to out into their communities and get more sponsorship money so they can start paying players? Or is it a case where the league monitors registrations of players at different clubs and if a prospective player is a "known" player he may not be able to register with one of the stronger clubs but will be directed to go to a weaker club? I don't know, but something has to be done urgently or the reputation of the BDAFL will be placed in question?

Anyone got any thoughts?

Thanks for taking the time in looking at this comment and also your rational and constructive response.

Cat60 - I have heard of large results now and again. There have been some in the BDAFL and before that when our 2 leagues were separated I am not sure who keeps the records, i am guessing they are with each club somewhere in a box locked away. Cardiff's effort at the weekend would have been an awesome display infront of goals. I have heard but cannot verify at present that there have been some massive scores in other leagues that eclipse Cardiff's effort but i believe Cardiff would hold the record in our league now. Gosford's records show our highest score ever was pre BDAFL 61.38.404 V 1.4.10 Wyong Lakes - 15th May 1983. Anyone know the records at their clubs?? Maybe Deitzy can shed some light on some scores??

In Australian Rules since it's inception, the highest EVER recorded score in a game of football was kicked in the Maryborough - Castlemaine Football League in Victoria.

Campbell's Creek 100.34.634 defeated Primrose 3.0.18. In 1990

As a bit of trivia, I think Primrose is finished, but Campbells Creek is still going but don't quote me. I can remember the day after as it was all over the news in Melbourne and on the papers.

How many did the fullforward kick surely that would have to be the overall goals in a match record unless the whole team kicked bags of goals? Thats like a goal a minute for every minute of the game or close to it.

At least Primrose took something from the game, they kicked straight, can't say that about their oppostion kicking 34 points.

Agree Cat60 I actually brought this issue up a few pages ago, and some posters had good ideas...but how to actually get things started is another
thing.
I and many others believe there maybe too many teams to have an even comp... but at the same time you dont want to play the same team every 2nd week!!!

Mergers are always an option, but no club wants to fold-losing by hundreds every week and playing 2 games isnt much fun either!!

Any excess players from stronger clubs could be pooled and 'loaned' for the weekend if that club had too many available and given a game as well as boost another clubs numbers-therefore eliminating the chances of a forfeit!!

Another option which i believe has varying success in other leagues is ''marrying'' clubs from another league, say sydneyfl, and they share resources -players etc, would certainly help weaker clubs

Any other thoughts?:)

I reckon the only way to make Cardiff weaker is for them to recruit more fuc k wits. this is serious. From my experience with the Cardiff guys is that the majority of them are good blokes and they look after the new recruits. From what I hear on the grapevine there is very little politics within the club, unlike some of the dirty laundry being aired on here by others. No major ego's, and everyone pays to play. Not the other way.

Some clubs that are struggling need to cough up some money for a decent coach, not some country Victorian hacks. A coach that trains them hard 2 nights a week.

Maybe the league needs to revisit the idea of putting the rep team into the Sydney 1st grade comp. it would definably lower the standard of weekly games but it would make the comp alot more balanced.
