Two guys off the rookie list that are among the first magnets on the board. Tabs - getting all the plaudits (and deservedly so), and Hughes - just getting the job done. 🤩

IP, the point here is that “you must want it”. Tabs & Hughes have come from a long way back, but they’ve worked their butt’s off.

They are a perfect example why the club have moved on 2 players this week, who “didn’t want it”.

+Freddy having his best game yet, beautiful goal from outside 50 as well
+Tabs, wowee, if Ryan wasn't playing this year, Tabs would be favourite for the Doig for mine
+Ryan is one of the best defenders in the league, really hope he gets AA
+Schultz was fantastic tonight, his first quarter was his best but he still applied pressure a lot throughout the night
+Cerra, absolute class
+Serong is still such a good player, I keep forgetting he's ours
+Aish doesn't have the same hype now as he did before, but he's very important to our structure
+Cox has made next years selection table way harder than it should be
+Henry, while making a few errors, found his spots and knows where to be. Just needs to work on getting the reward.
+Conca on Papley, gold

-Lobb was fumbly all night, kicked a goal and took good marks, but arguably his weakest game yet

Good team effort across the ground, not to overly excited as sydney are quiet a poor team atm, we looked bigger all over the ground and bullied them.

Can someone enlight me as to wtf we are doing with our setshot routines? Why do we setup for around the body kicks when a drop punt is still the best option? Looks like they are afraid of the most basic skill in footy.

Luke Ryan: What can we say? In a Vic team he would probably be considered for the brownlow. In the form he is in, he is our best player. 9/10

Mundy: Offer him one more year pretty please, we will miss is kicking big time once he is gone, super game tonight. 8/10

Tabs: Looked like the biggest bloke on field tonight, Sydney went far to small in defence tonight and tabs made them pay for it. Unstopable in contested marking, draws 3 players on him and still gets the better of the contest. Make me belive Tabs :rainbow:. 8/10

Schultz: 9 Marks, equal with taberner, wow, superbe pressure at all time as well. Cemented is spot. 7.5/10

Conca: Made Papley shit the bed tonight and i loved it, had his typical been rundown in our 50 moment, but in his tagging role did very well. 7/10

Brayshaw: We know what we re getting from him now, consistant in his output. 7/10

Fyfe: It is clear that JL don't want us to be reliant on him, takes away from his influence in the game but will make us a better side in the future. Still so clean when there is a hard ball to be won. 7/10

Cerra: Very good goal, clean hands. But lacked a certain influence on the game. Had one shocking turnover too. Still sooooo much potential with this guy. 6.5/10

Serong: Goog cog in a midfield that dominated, 3 clearances, 5 tackles and 20 possies, still in it for the rising star. 6.5/10

Cox: Looked confortable down back, knows when to leave his man to influence the play further up the ground as well, smart defender and should stay there. 6.5/10

Walters: Very elusive tonight, took the game on but he can do better. 6.5/10

Blakely: Put his body on the line, good game. 6.5/10

Wilson: Decent rebounding game out of defence, nothing bad notable but nothing out the ordinary as well, i still think that sometimes his weapon of a kick can be let down with poor decisions. Oh, i wish he could kick it to something other than a pack on the boundary 6/10

Hughes/Duman: Very agressive tonight, part of a very solid backline, will be good depth if we can keep them once Pearce and Hamling are fit 6/10

Hill: Ok game, nice to have some continuity, having him on the ground instead of the infirmary. Did not influence the game much but played his role. 5.5/10

Frederick: Glad he got a goal with that set shot, will do his confidence a world of good. Brings a lot of pressure and he is so quick but he often overcommits, he will learn with time. 5/10

Darcy: Did his job in the ruck. Meh in everything else. I mean, your over 2 metres tall yet 0 marks. 5/10

Aish: Not his best game for us, got battered a few times. Held up play too much. 4.5/10

Crowden: Some good pressure but meh 4.5/10

Lobb: Looked cooked tonight and so out of confidence with his kicking, and he wants to be foward? Get real he can't even mark the bloody thing. Looked physicaly tired, needs a rest. 3.5/10

Henry: (Rose color glasses off) Overawed by the occasion, tried to do too much. Keep him in the side the talent is there. 3/10

Lobb still clunked a few tonight. Got a goal and contributed.

Not his best game and down on confidence but not as bad as some are saying.
The issue for me with Lobb is he didn't really clunk any when the game was hot. He did work his way into the game a bit and does seem to get better as the match goes on, but that's not good enough. If he had've kicked 3.0, we'd be saying he played well. Needs to capitalise on his oppurtunities more, especially when you're holding Hogan out (I know they're not like for like and it's not really a direct swap, but if Lobb's not in the team ... hogan is) .

Positive:
In the footy media, winning and "narrative" are everything.
In a week where two guys left the club mid-season, the media "narrative" is now about how we are on the right track -- and by implication McCarthy & Cartner aren't.
We lose and the media narrative would have been about underachieving Dockers have players walk out.

You're right! But when we win, f##k the west coast's media!

I thought we played quite average. But my boy loved the footy, loved eating chips, was cheering when anyone got the ball after Henry got his roar. Got a bit bored but I don't think I missed much keeping him entertained and didn't feel like we were ever really out of control, I didn't get stressed or tense.

Sorry all, I might be talking crap as I haven’t seen the game yet, but don’t forget it’s Henrys first game of real intense footy ever probably, but at least since he hurt his knee.
He will get better very quickly with a few games because the Micky Mouse scratchies he’s been playing have absolutely nothing on an AFL game.

We need a new fwd coach or fwd structure coach, we’re chopping and changing it every week and not getting the right mix of positioning
I think that's premature. Defence building comes first. Then mid. Then fwd.
JLo has a very obvious plan and has absolutely revamped our defence and mid. I think if he wants to stick with the current coaching set up for another year then we back him in.

In hindsight the hype on Henry was ridiculous all week. The debut is now out of the way as well as razzle dazzle of indigenous round and the extra expectation. He made some errors tonight but showed some good confidence and positional sense.
It should be a reality check for the kid that AFL footy is hard and unforgiving. You gotta earn everything you get. He will have learned so much from tonight. His hands were clean but his disposal by foot was scrappy. He’ll go away and tidy that up in the coming weeks.
At times I felt he looked like a boy playing a mans game. Another year of conditioning and he will be more explosive and powerful.
The hard work only starts for any young player once their debut game is played.

1. Ryan BOG and AA form
2. Cox is the white Michael Johnson
3. Mundy looked cooked at the start of the season but last night was pretty good
4. Hill looked cooked and injured. Maybe, 3 games in 12 days was too much. Needed to be managed
5. Darcy, Brayshaw ,Cerra and Serong is a midfield we can build on
6. Henry got to the right spots and tried to do too much with the ball. Basketball term is: "don't force it and let the game came to you"
7. Frederick's pressure is elite and a lot cleaner
8 Blakely's TOG 54% is pretty substandard for a mid age player. Too slow and not skillful enough
9. Schultz leading to the right spots to relieve pressure was excellent earlier. Seem to look for the big guys first
10. Walters touch is a bit out but will improve
11. Hughes was solid but some of decisions with ball are a bit out
12. Aish was quiet
13. Duman did some good and some bad
14. Fyfe was great in patches but not his best game
15. Crowden was servable
16. Conca did a great job on Papley
17. Taberner was a monster
18. Lobb could have been a monster
19. Wilson was clever with the ball

All - there’s a clear link between Connor returning to the team and our purple patch of wins

While he has limitations - stop and acknowledge the 2nd and 3rd efforts he did all night, and has done since his return.

He knows there’s pressure from below, but right now he’s clearly in our 22 and plays a pivotal role that enables other positional moves (fyfe forward, serong increasing game time, Conca lock down roles, Aish more outside than in, Mundy swinging between half back - mid - forward).

Everyone needs to ***** chill

I said it before the game. The Henry hype train was unfair on the poor kid. Was never going to live up to everyone's expectations. Got to the right spots which was a good sign, not much else went right unfortunately.

Another below average performance from Lobb. We need to be getting better value out of him. With his size, speed and marking ability we should be getting alot more from him.

In general our whole forward line and structures are a hot mess. Tabs is literally the only consistent player in our fwd line. Not working for each other to create space or opportunity. I imagine JLo will be spend a big chunk off the summer working on this with the boys.

Ryan and Cox take a bow.
Conca take a bow. (Toby Greene this week)
Rising star Mundy!
Serong is already a very good midfielder. What's he going to be like after 2/3 preseasons!

Blakely's time on ground is perplexing.

Blakely is a direct rotation with Mundy. They are both being played as burst players

A good win.. I should be happy... but I feel desperately sad. Hill. I think he's done. I might have known it rationally but I'm starting to truly realise it. I had been holding out hope but ☹️
