Injury Blue Healers Discussion - 2025

Just when I had convinced myself that this was going to be our year.

Midfield and forward line are sorted. Absolutely no problems whatsoever there as long as they are fit.

But the backline was an unmitigated diaster last year. Newman's gone and the floodgates are open again for season 2025.

Some people try and make the best of a bad situation. Others …………………..

Our premiership window has been open since 2023, and our ability to win one is 100% dependant on the fitness of our list.

We had a real chance in 2023, but got stagefright in the prelim.

We barely made through the second half of the year in 2024 with a massive injury list.

And now 2025 is already shaping up to be another injury plagued shitshow.

Apologies for not being optmistic, I'm just sick of this ****ing bullshit.

New turf makes me nervous.

It's fine when done properly. MCG gets done every single year between cricket and footy season. Surprisingly close to round 1 too.

The only place they continually **** it up is over at Docklands. I'll never forgive them for ruining my boy Matty Kreuzer's career.

Hit the rehab full on Newy. Expect to see you coaching your replacements, helping them to understand the role and read the game like you (and how to lay a bit of niggle). Your leadership won't be lost.

Good luck to you and those that get an opportunity.

No need to throw all of the toys out of the bath mate. Cow could step up or Wilson could possibly be ready. JSOS could end

up playing a pivotal role in defense, with his hard at it style and his ability to play different roles. Tipping Ollie has a

breakout season off half back as well.

Love Newy , but he's not our second best player. He does leave a very big hole, but spades fill holes, and we've an abundance of spades in our hand so it's very much "next man up", just like '23. I'm thinking the JSOS move is more realistic now, mainly to add the marking backup that Stig alluded to, and the smarts that others have suggested. Leave Kemp out of this, keep him on a forward trajectory, same with Willo. And to this "tweak" discussion, semantics, move on and give a thought to a bloke who lives and breathes this club.....

Statistically our backline was bottom 4 last year.

And while Haynes might have helped, now that Newman's gone I think our backline is worse on paper in 2025.

Cowan, JSOS and Wilson is fantasy.

And until Ollie learns to hit targets there's no way we play through him off HBF.

Haven't been following too much, has there been talk on this? (or maybe from now on?)
Ended up playing off half back in the last couple of games. Looked pretty good there, as well. Think the position really suits

him. He will be stronger over the ball now coming into his third season, will be an important player.

If we can’t make a good defence with Weitering McGovern Haynes Silvagni Docherty Cowan Boyd Saad Ollie Young L.Campo Wilson Cincotta and possibly Durdin Phillips and/or Carroll as options we have bigger problems than I thought

And that’s without moving Williams Lemmey Monahan Kemp or even Cottrell back

Did we get another Carroll??
