I don't think Josh Kennedy was all that enamored about heading back to WA. Deal got done.

You are right, but contracted players did not have power of veto in 2007. They do now.

And the Judd trade did bring in an erstwhile rule change (because Kennedy had signed a new contract with us just a couple of months prior to us trading him), that clubs couldn't trade any player they had only just recontracted in the X months prior. That rule is gone now, presumably because contracted players can refuse to be traded.

I wouldn't necessarily say others on the list have gone past him, but the pack is definitely gaining ground quickly.

I could be completely wrong, but it seems after a good 2018 Fish expected it all to just 'happen' for him this year, and it didn't. If all goes to plan this trade period, by mid 2020 he may find himself down the pecking order, and he will have to absolutely bust his a** to get back in team, or look elsewhere for opportunity.

Worried the latter could happen.

Hope he hits the gym and has a huge pre-season and comes out firing in 2020. If he ends up traded back to WA he'll absolutely tear it up, and end up another "being traded was the kick up the backside I needed" story, of which we've already produced too many.

Many young players have a backward year in their first 4 years in the system, just like Weitering's 3rd year.

Fisher has all the right attributes and skillset to improve dramatically

Jack Martin and Riley Knight have very similar stats and are a month apart in age.

OK, Martin probably has better skills and arguably more upside, BUT one will cost pick ~20 and the other ~50.

I think pre-draft ratings feature too heavily in trade value. And actual output features too lightly.

Contracted players had the same right then as they do now. JK could have told us to get stuffed. Just like Burton from the Hawks, could have said no to a trade, but was pushed out the door.

Didn’t see your last sentence before replying. Kennedy despite that rule could have said no.

Jake Niall is a smart man.
As I previously mentioned, SOS is pushing for a 2nd back to help offload for Martin.

Future first has been offered to WC for Gaff. Low % to happen but it is silly season and Eagles need room for Kelly.

Watch this space

If Carlton get a nibble on Gaff. Would they look at next year's first and WA boy Fisher?
Or are we as keen to keep Fisher in the same way as Marchbank?

Marchbank was already asked about and shut down quickly by all parties.
That is terrific news.

There is absolutely no way we've seen anything remotely near what he is capable of. We've seen him without anything resembling continuity, and we've seen him gunshy. If rehab and injury recovery can get him on the field for more than 5 consecutive matches, look the **** out.

At the very least, on the event of trading him out, we wouldn't get anything near his worth. We might get value above what we traded, but that is unlikely given his injury history.

Pick 9 and only has one year on his contract. Either Sydney cash in now or run the risk next year as a free agent and try their luck on AFL compensation.

Sorry, Tony Stark One Less Than Thirty.....but Papley has four years to run before he's eligible for free agency (ignoring his contract status).

Yup. Kennedy could have said no, but he said he felt he couldn't refuse as he didn't want to be the one that stopped the best player in the comp from getting to the club.

Stats aint really that relevant. Riley Knight's stats were largely when he was playing in a reasonably successful Crows side, whilst Martin has managed better stats in a stone motherless last Suns outfit.

Think we all need to take a breath.

Some really do lose their minds through the trade period, and it hasn’t even started yet!

Talk of trading the likes of Fisher and Dow is crazy, particularly for what some had coming back the other way

And we’ve got a long way to go yet, but Fisher + Dow for Papley might be the worst trade suggestion we’ll see this year.

I wouldn’t trade either of them for Papley, let alone both.

The mind boggles...
Guilty as charged Your Honour
I was the one who suggested that;
However in my defence, people are taking it as a trade in isolation, which it wasn't, it was part of a bigger trade in trying to work out how it might be possible to get Grundy.
Pure speculation and chewing the fat, brought on by the consumption of a few glasses of a nice Heathcote Shiraz.

Knight has been played out of position, is a mid, but given the likes of Crouch x 2, etc has been used as a small foward, which we can relate with.

Tougher, harder version of Ed
He comes to us, what would you expect his output to resemble, possessions/tackles/goals wise? Inside or on the spread?

I feel Fisher really has something, and is still very young. When assessing any young player, I try to think of a best case scenario - which AFL player could they play like if they developed very well from here. Then work back from there, as best case scenarios don't often happen.

I find Fisher a hard one to place, as he seems to have quite a unique mix of skills, but I feel he's a little bit Dayne Zorko-ish. Small, quick, agile, can kick goals. Feel free to argue, but he's the "best case scenario" I see for Fisher.

Now at Fisher's age (21), Zorko was not yet even in the AFL. So let's remember how young Fisher is.

Here's Zorko's (excellent) first year in AFL at age 23 versus Fisher's "disappointing" 2019 at age 21:

Clearly major win on points to Zorko, but take a closer look at a lot of those stats are in the same ballpark - tackles arguably being the bigger differential. But this is 23yo Zorko vs 21yo Fisher.

Roll Fisher 2 years forwards.... I see no reason to move him out, now. An extra preseason, stronger midfield around him, I think Fisher can be a real "icing on top" weapon in the midfield that actually does a lot of the damage. F50s, Goal Assists, Long Kicks, etc.

Food for thought. Or to dismiss me as a maniac.

Now you're lying, or have blind friends. From inside the swans organisation they know he's an absolute jet and one of their untouchables.

FWIW - I had Allir in my fantasy football team this year so kept quite a close eye on him.

IMHO - Levi had a far superior year THIS YEAR.
