I think the confirmation from Mitch Cleary that Blues “only saw Butler as a backup for Martin and Papley” and “they withdrew interest” as an excellent sign.

I strongly doubt everything is reliant on Bombers. Or anything actually. I would bet there are plans in the event Daniher gets done, and plans if he doesn’t.

Otherwise, we’d have stayed into Butler.

Cleary also said he expects Betts in a Carlton polo on Monday.

Lol good ol' journos stating safe predictions. Then it doesn't happen and they quote the following day.

"I expect the *** trade to be done by Wednesday"

Feel like we have repeated this a million times but for the sake of a clear sheet going into the weekend, we are waiting on Syd and Ess to broker a deal so this 4 way trade which will include Hawthorn can work

If negotiations fall through between the 2 clubs we have a plan b for both Martin and Papley, won't be easy but it will get done
Get the feeling that plan B will be required. There’s no way Dodoro will let Daniher go this year. And let’s face it, most lost managers would be the same.

Is it Essendon holding up the deal C09?

I’m aware this won’t be popular but I don’t understand the hate for Dodoro.
His only agenda is getting the best deal for Essendon. I dislike essendon as much as the next sane human but for me he is just doing his job.
If in a hypothetical world it was not Daniher wanting to leave but Charlie Curnow, we would all want SOS to play the hardest of hard ball to make sure that we only let him go for a massive price.
I’m happy to keep being patient and confident that the ducks are all lined up on our end. Hopefully it all falls into place by Wednesday
Is it though? Or is there a fair smattering of 'I won't be beaten' ego in there? I'm sure the latter. As Lloydy said on Trade Radio this morning, once it gets to that stage (openly meeting with the club and requesting a trade) after being with the club for nearly 10 years, it's rare anyone will go back. Bryce Gibbs still loved the club but asked the question the following year after being knocked back initially.

Dodo should take the huge currency he will get from the deal with the Swans because Joe's body is already notorious for breaking down and he won't get the same offer again I wouldn't think. He could easily get some great talent in and get Jenkins in for a year or 2 cheap to help cover Daniher until they get another FWD.

Just been checking out some highlights and stuff on Sam Murray, has a nice left peg on him and loves taking the game on with his run and carry, could play off half back or on a wing kicking inside 50, he’s an interesting one with the drug ban but Collingwood gave up a future second round pick for him and obviously rated him highly to give up that much for a pick 66 rookie.

Could get him as a DFA and would certainly be good cover for us if not more, would rather take him than a pick in the 70s or 80s. Thoughts anyone, or does anyone know anything more about him. Actually we could even give him our rookie spot.

This is how deal sits on friday night.
Pick 9
Future 3rd round pick. Used for Sydney academy points in 2020.
Sydney give us back pick 25 and Papley.
We use pick 25 for Martin.
Take it to the bank.
Remember the weekends here and things can change.
Wonder how the hawks fit into this if it goes to a 4 way trade, do they give 11 + Future 3rd to Sydney for pick 9 from us, do we give pick 48 to the hawks for Pittonet.

Swans
Out: Papley + 25
In: 11 + Carl & Hawks future 3rd picks

Hawks
Out: 11 + future 3rd + pittonet
In: 9 + 48

Carlton
Out: 9 + 48 + future 3rd
In: Papley + 25

25 + 43 for Martin + 58

Betts for future 4th

So what are the Bombers not accepting? 5 + 11 for a future 2nd + Daniher?

Hopefully we never have to find out.

What we do know though, is SOS gets deals done. He’s fair. Sometimes he overpays, but he’s always looking at the bigger picture.
he seemed to make it reasonably clear, during that PWC breakfast interview this morning, that he is waiting for Sydney to contact Essendon with a proposal. That’s not overly different to SOS telling Gibbs he would consider a deal, but wouldn’t be the one pursuing it. .
