While my ass points to the ground Martin is not worth a First rounder..
He is this year and next year. These drafts are rubbish. Apart from top two this year none would make the top 20 last year. Next year is worse. There’s a reason Essendon are over valuing Daniher but whomever has him on their books in 2020 is ****ed. The draft picks won’t be much better. Even Geelong got ****ed for Kelly.

Clubs aren’t stupid. This draft is a lottery after pick 8ish,low in talent bar the first two.
Lottery or not, there will still be players found in the mid rounds that will go on to have good careers and it pays to be tactical. However, I doubt we'll have much of a chance with picks in the 70s.

Trade radio suggesting next year's draft isn't projected to be particularly good, so perhaps an opportunity to leverage future picks, particularly for clubs who have academy prospects. Makes sense if that's how the clubs are reading it.

A 10-12 pick downgrade next year for Martin this year is the thinking maybe?

The draft isn't necessarily weak next year. It's just that 17 of the 46 players who played in the next gen game are either father/son players or academy players.

Lots of talent but entirely compromised.

Honestly, what Ralphy proposed I'm not necessarily against IF there is a strong belief that we'll play finals. If there is then it's a gamble worth taking.

He's done ****all and is a 2nd rounder in any draft. I never doubt SOS but with this one?????Alarm :bell:

Could we possibly do something with Pick 3 if it was actually true and trade with the Cats for the plethora of picks they just have from the Eagles, and then use those to complete the Papley and Martin deals plus have some extra picks left from some late attempts at left field targets. 🤷‍♂️

I have been suggesting for weeks that we should be looking to get a pick back from the Suns in any deal for Martin.

Glad we seem to be exploring that possibility, though I would prefer to get either 15 or 20 from them this year, rather than a pick next year.

Regardless, Martin + 2020 2nd for our 2020 1st is a great deal if we can pull it off.

Seriously...I was wondering why my right thimb has been painful the last week or so. I've just realised it's due to RSI, too much scrolling through this thread on my phone.
yeah, yeah that's the reason.........

Well we’re you ever locked out. ?

The other thing is that since so many clubs have academy players, if we broker a deal to get some good draft points for next year there is the opportunity to trade back into the first round with a club who has a first round prospect and is looking for more points than their first round pick offers.

Mind you, I’d prefer our first pick not be used.

So that was the worst week of trade period ever. It's going to be a looooooong weekend.

So here's my solution....Go to the search box and look up posts with 'Walsh' by windows1. Read all the pre-season posts (Dec-Jan).

We now all know what we have in Walsh, but read these great posts from before he debuted. Here's a teaser to start you off....

My view is everyone missed an amazing moment Thursday. You just don’t see 18 year olds do what Walsh did. He’s not just a good runner. He’s absolutely elite already. He’s determined as hell. His body is already strong enough. He reads the game amazingly.

Only injury stops him winning the Rising Star and being top 5 in the B+F. He is a MILE ahead of any of our previous number 1’s at the same stage.

I’m really stunned to have come on here these past couple of days and not seen people exploding with praise for him.

WAKE UP. I suggest you get back down to training in Jan and pay bloody close attention. Watch how determined he is to keep up with/beat Ed Curnow. Watch how he gets to more contests than all the seasoned players on the list. Watch his clean hands and terrific judgement.

So much love should be being sent his way yet people are sooking about injuries.

It’s a joke. I’ll say it again....

WAKE UP.

Imagine how trade week eventuated for these blokes back then 🙂🙂

I don't think it's that great. It depends on the draft.

But i'd much prefer to give pick 25 as a straight swap than that deal...

We have high hopes but we could have a poor year in 2020...pick 5 for Martin & 19 isn't a deal i'm excited about, i think it's quite bad.
Even if we get close to the 8 and it's pick 8-9 for Martin & pick 19, it's still not amazing as typically there is a premium on top 10 picks.
