two Well thought out positions above, both with excellent and valid points. :clapping::clapping: GoBlues! Blue__Balls

My inferior contribution would be that clubs would need to be very careful and avoid winning the battle only to lose the war. Not in a holistic sense of competition rules, but internally within their own playing group and the reputation they develop among players more broadly.

Only those close to any given situation would form an informed view of the merits of a request, and even then it’s still a subjective view. I could easily imagine managers/players considering very carefully on what basis they would commit to the Swans. Particularly re: trigger clauses. Logically if a player is hitting the targets within those clauses, they’re ‘required’ and would not need a trigger clause to secure more tenure if that’s what they want.

Every situation is different but I could certainly see a trend towards shorter contracts being popular for more players developing after this trade period.

Yeah nah. This is, in some ways, what the comp needed. Players sign extensions and long contracts to protect their position and earning potential. Clubs do so to secure key personnel and plan list management. Maybe players should stick to one and two year deals unless they're firmly settled down, because it's not fair to commit to a 3+ year contract with a club, who make subsequent list management decisions with that contract in mind, only to change your mind when your girlfriend gets a job interstate or you decide it would be cool being closer to your family. Sick relatives is a different story, but in this case I think Papley and Daniher can only really blame themselves for overcommitting.
Great post.

I for one am in total agreement with you. I do believe players should be made to honour their contracts, but...

If a player has a major life issue which is preventing them from living comfortably and the need to go back home is dire, then yes by all means ask for a trade.

If it’s for greed or the want to just return home then I believe the club trading should be overly compensated, which we most certainly were with Gibbs.

Now don’t for one second think I didn’t want Papley, I did!

This will be an unpopular opinion among the masses but I’m glad Daniher and Papley were held to their contracts.

I’d want SOS to do the same, which he did with Bryce, if one of our interstate players wanted to return home whilst contracted.

The Daniher situation is a little different but a contract is a contract.

You can’t sign longish term deals for security then as soon as something changes up and leave.

Obviously there can be extenuating circumstances and life changing situations can arise at the drop of the hat, but they are employees at the end of the day and a contract is a contract.

Unless of course

then the club with the player wanting to leave holds the whip hand.

Dodoro holding off for 12 months gives his club time to either get Joe to stay, or alternatively find some sort of replacement or a better draft in which to be remunerated.

I’m still hopeful we’ll get Paps. Wines would also be awesome.

The deal that should’ve been simple was the Martin trade, and now we get him for nothing. So EAD. Cochroach 🙂

Had a Welsh Mountain Pony as a work horse. Beautiful animal. So darn smart Sometimes a blessing - other times an outright pain in the arse.......
Great singers those welsh ponies. The best was one we called T.J.
Man could he belt out a tune.
Had a fallout with a minxy filly called Delilah.
Brought out some of his best work.

why do we need wines when we have a similar type in kennedy? althoug kennedy has a great kick he will probably not make best 22 as a forward. he was brought in to help in mid. maybe his ankle issue prevented him playing well in the mid field role. he may be just what we need if he gets over his ankle issue by start of 2020 season.

Did anyone read the article on Roar website?

I’ve read some garbage during the trade period - but that is seriously “gold medal” material.

Written by self appointed Guru “Michael Thompson” - who has clearly been buying way too much “product” off his possible relative Bomber Thompson.

Judges the trade period a fail because Carlton didn’t complete trades for small forwards.

Then acknowledges that many of these same players can be taken FREE by Carlton in PSD or as DFA.

Cart before horse?

Absolutely ****ing ridiculous.

For me this is the year where one of JSOS or Kennedy need to step up and play that role. 5th year players so no excuses why they can’t if they are good enough. If they are both not up to it at the end of the season then we probably reassess.

Pick 9 for Papley = suckersssss hiS a sMAll 4WeRd
Pick 9 and 2020 2nd for Martin and 15 = HahahaH overpaid for an OOC player

We don’t cave into unreasonable demands = F+++

This is how these shit kickers operate.

Hope we get Martin as a DFA or through the PSD bluevein.

If we do, I’m tipping you’ll find a gif with Elton Johns lyrics....losing everything, is like the Suns going down on me. 😀

It's Funny people think only players want to break contracts, Sometime need to ask is the same standard applied to clubs? There sure seems to be more than 1 or 2 in isolation looking to recruit contracted players from other teams. The question becomes did xyz recruiter contact the players or vice versa.
Clubs cannot have their cake and eat it too.

I see Kennedy as a tough forward who can run through midfield, and Wines as pure mid. Agree with you that he was recruited with a purer midfield role in mind. Fingers crossed he remains relatively injury free.
