Did anyone read the article on Roar website?

I’ve read some garbage during the trade period - but that is seriously “gold medal” material.

Written by self appointed Guru “Michael Thompson” - who has clearly been buying way too much “product” off his possible relative Bomber Thompson.

Judges the trade period a fail because Carlton didn’t complete trades for small forwards.

Then acknowledges that many of these same players can be taken FREE by Carlton in PSD or as DFA.

Cart before horse?

Absolutely f***ing ridiculous.

Just read another article.

Carlton Trade Grade
Betts - 2020 R4 Pick
Pittonet - Pick 54
Martin - Free

Graded as an F.

So if we’d given up 2 x picks for Martin we’d be graded a C?

Certain lack of logic here.....

Maybe F because we didn’t get our 2 important targets. Although looking likely in the psd we still haven’t got Martin.

Tbh if cunners shows a bit more durability this season I won’t be thinking too much about paps. I now agree with sos decision to not pay overs in picks for him.

My guess would be ",he's cranky with the Swans..SOS done everything he could to get him across"..

Hope he’s professional enough to move on to say “guys, I’m not going to have this chip...but if you do it again I’d rather sit out from matches next season”

Yeah nah. This is, in some ways, what the comp needed. Players sign extensions and long contracts to protect their position and earning potential. Clubs do so to secure key personnel and plan list management. Maybe players should stick to one and two year deals unless they're firmly settled down, because it's not fair to commit to a 3+ year contract with a club, who make subsequent list management decisions with that contract in mind, only to change your mind when your girlfriend gets a job interstate or you decide it would be cool being closer to your family. Sick relatives is a different story, but in this case I think Papley and Daniher can only really blame themselves for overcommitting.
Which, while true, is somewhat of a hard stance. Things change, especially for young people; family dramas, spouse and partners and their jobs/lives. AFL's only really what, 5 years or more if you're lucky?

Looking at it in microcosm rather than from the macro level, individuals will take the longer contract purely because it provides security in what is essentially a very insecure field, in which your career can be over tomorrow if something goes terribly awry. Placing it on the players not to sign longer contracts is probably the wrong tack, given their low level of job security; perhaps clubs should be more willing to allow players to sign continuous shorter length contracts with triggers for additional time, but risk the player obtaining a better offer elsewhere and being forced to either find a trade or to match.

This may have been talked about, but with barass70 post about Papley being upset at not being traded to Carlton. Is he upset with just Sydney or also Carlton for not getting the trade done?
Upset with Sydney. Apparently it’s okay for the swans to chase Daniher and have no qualms about Daniher breaking his contract, but don’t apply the same principle to Papley. Hypocrisy and double standards.

why do we need wines when we have a similar type in kennedy? althoug kennedy has a great kick he will probably not make best 22 as a forward. he was brought in to help in mid. maybe his ankle issue prevented him playing well in the mid field role. he may be just what we need if he gets over his ankle issue by start of 2020 season.

Have a good feeling about Kennedy this year. If he is over his ankle issues, reckon he could start getting some serious midfield minutes.

Been through some shit in the last 3 months.

I can do the stand up stuff, but you only lose one father.

May be a having a little nervous breakdown.

just cause I like duck and pork it doesn't necessarily follow I stick a duck in a pig and call it cuisine...………….that shit is f’ed up...………..
What about a turducken...

Pick 9 for Papley = suckersssss hiS a sMAll 4WeRd
Pick 9 and 2020 2nd for Martin and 15 = HahahaH overpaid for an OOC player

We don’t cave into unreasonable demands = F+++

This is how these shit kickers operate.

Oh for sure, we were on a hiding to nothing.
These media muppets who assess each club's success in trading are only interested in who got the biggest fish. They don't consider that sometimes smart trading means not trading if the price is going to be too high.
No - if you don't land a big fish, you've failed, simple.

Last year, Richmond were judged as most successful just because they got Lynch. The fact that he's costing them nearly $1m per year for 7 years is not considered relevant. Add that to Dusty's contract and you'd reckon there wouldn't be much wriggle room left in the Richmond cap for the next few years.
Sure, Lynch was a great get and arguably worth that kind of investment, but it's not as if the Tiges got him for a steal, through clever trading. He was a FA and they were willing and able to offer the best package for him. (And a premiership medal, as it turns out...)

Consider SOS went to da club to pick up... he saw one beautiful lass and things were going swimmingly till 4am when she disappeared unable to be found. Sad face. Too bad he didn’t go up to a 6/10 at the start of the night and tell her he’s going after that beautiful girl over there, but if she’s lucky at 4am things will work out if the beautiful lass goes walkies....

Sure to get a good slap across the face.

Plan B yada yada.

While I understand the “hold players to their contracts” sentiment, it’s a bit too narrow minded.

It’s been raised on here a bit but it’s worth repeating - it’s unlikely that the current system would survive a full blown restraint of trade challenge by a player. Clubs getting players where they want to go is one of the ways they’ve kept the peace so far but there’s no guarantee that continues if they blow that up.

If clubs suddenly decide that contracts are sacrosanct and must be satisfied, the corollary has to be that a player is free to do what they want as soon as the contract expires. No draft, no years of service to qualify for free agency. It would become an absolute free for all of player movement.

If you’re cool with that, all good (personally, I am if that’s where it ends up). If you’re not, then I’d be careful about cheering on clubs for playing hard ball.

Alot of the so called media prefer trading for the sake of trading. We didnt overpay and we'll still have a very competitive team in 2020.

Their idea of list building comes from playing SuperCoach. Absolute sensationalist crap from most of them. How many lists have they built? How many teams have they walked into and stripped back to rebuild as a contender?

As good as it wouldve been to get papley i reckon the 22 we put out round 1 2020 will go very well, with the majority of improvement coming from internal growth.
