Can confirm 5 was on the table and more.
Deal got hijacked by head office at Bomber land as well as some connected people.
My mail was they were happy to let him go for more than 1 reason. Then others got involved in trade meetings inside Bomberland.
Swans not worried as they will get him next year.
Daniher’s are furious.
Paps extremely disappointed but knows it’s not our fault, he will try again.
Martin coming. As has been said GCS lost the plot there for a while.

That's the confusing thing, I had heard the Bombers were more than happy to let him go for reasons that don't need to be discussed here a couple of weeks prior to the trade period.

Watch us get Papley for the 2nd and 3rd we offered GCS ... would be ****ing sweet.

How do you know this with all due respect.
Sydney recruiter said it himself in the video on AFL site.

Im paraphrasing here but ultimately.....

"We were told 5 and 9 or 2 first round picks wouldn't get it done."

"Did you offer 5?"

"No, no we didn't".

Regardless of what Essendon said about not accepting it, the picks of 5 and 9 weren't offered. I understand Essendon played hard ball but how the hell does anyone know what might be accepted unless it's offered.

Part of any negotiating exercise, one party starts higher and the other lower and they meet in the middle, however Sydney did not rate Daniher as a 5 and 9 trade and Essendon rated him higher.

Watch the Damien Barrett death riding Sydney video for yourselves.

100% right. Hes not a small forward. Hes a mid.
Deluca the same. Dow Fish Cunners also.

Can't help repeating things here, but you can't just take every mid out of the position they've grown into and have them flourish elsewhere.

Some will work playing off a HBF (Stocker, SPS and O'Brien fit), some can have success forward (Kennedy, Setterfield SPS again and Cripps) and some I just don't see capable of developing their games elsewhere (Dow, Fisher and Polson) Walsh though could play just about anywhere though.

Have to be careful not wasting premium picks on players that somehow aren't part of future midfield plans.
I mean Dow and Fisher will be O.K. because they have tricks others don't have, but still.....don't double and triple up. They're wasted picks/recruits.

But why did they need to be so intertwined? Papley wanting/ needing to be traded, would have been in his mind, have nothing to do with Daniher trade. Sydney were, as it has been stated, very hypocritical in their approach. Not trading a contracted player but seeking one. Poor form, don’t think he will be there 2021

I don't like Sydney's approach but can understand it.

Whilst, on face value, they are very different players, on goal scoring potential they are not miles apart. Daniher in and Papley out doesn't effect their goal scoring potential but both out will have a significant impact. Not to mention that Papley has proven a much more resilient player in terms of games missed. I think Danihers injury history is such that I would not have been keen on trading 5 & 9 for him if the 9 meant you didn't have Papley.
