9 for Martin and 15. Why would
You not do that? We had plans to get out of the first round anyway!
Because the Swans weren't giving up Papley. SOS did the right thing, you don't pay for Martin when you can get him for free and know whatever you were to get in Sydney were never going to take.

Oh boy. What an amazing melt by some in here.

At the end of the day, we have landed two of our targets, and will get a third for free.

Missing on Papley is frustrating but sounds as though that wasn't going to happen unless Daniher went through, so not sure what we can do there. He is and remains a contracted player.

Martin in the PSD is a very good result, GC is a laughing stock.

I remember a few years ago we got into a situation of contracts not meaning anything...clubs were releasing contracted players who wanted out as the narrative was they don't want a player who doesn't want to be there.

Seems like this has changed recently, potentially starting with us and Gibbs. Kelly was held to his contract last year. Daniher. Papley.

They mean something again, which isn't a bad thing.

Love the spin by some people here. This is a fail for SOS, no other way to see it.
He had players we need (small forwards) nominating us, and he wasn't able to land them.
Future players will be apprehensive nominating CFC given SOS' inability to seal a deal.
Add to that missing out on Cogs.
A massive fail. We'd want to get Martin in PSD that is all I can say.
So you add in cogs? Bit hard to outbid the afl.

Feels like instead of blinking we closed our eyes, whether or not it's believed overpaying in a weak draft is right or wrong, the fact there was an inkling of insight into being left wanting, and not enough energy put into plan B's concerns me a little.

A lot of marginal upgrades to our list went elsewhere for peanuts.

Fear we may have extended our journey based on strong arming people with nothing to lose.

Lucky we got Eddie !!

Spewn about Papley but oh well can't expect to just have you own way everytime , especially with contracted players.

At least I have a reason to hate Essendon more than I already do. As soon as our trades hinged on that pr**k striking his deal it was always gonna be sketchy.

Martin ... GC can stick it .
SOS was right not to bend over and hand over a first rounder for him.. That was just a ridiculous price to pay for an un-contracted inconsistent player.

lol @ the melts

of course there are going to be melts, we set out a plan to go get some small forwards to help us climb the ladder, we are relying
The process isn’t over Wilson; but a flat ball wouldn’t know that. Wilsooooooon wake up.

We now have to wait to the draft where other clubs have already made up some ground to obtain a small forward e.g Melbourne

We are also relying on other clubs not getting in Martins ear now and taking him in the PSD, we came, we saw and we didn’t conquer, pathetic

Ultimately, you cannot overpay. Unfortunately some trading partners don’t come to the party. Our net position is better having not pursued the terms put to us.

We are all frustrated, but it’s the right move. Now, which gun are we going to get at pick 9?
Not sure the cost analysis is right this time... Papley is greater the next 2 seasons than anyone we get at 9 + whatever later selections we give up/ don't get back. Think there will be conflict at board level over this? Long term vs short term and where the emphasis should've been?
