This talk of small forwards, where do you all see Kennedy next year. Has always had an interrupted season and never performed up to expectations but seemed to do well this year when thrown forward. While he isn’t as agile or exciting as a traditional small forward he seemed to be capable of making an impact.

next year is he a best 22 player and where is he playing, forward or midfield?
He was not playing as a small forward. He tended to play a bit of full forward or third tall at times.

That and also they now wait until the VCE exams are over.

See, that doesn't make sense to me either. You'd think that if VCE exams were a consideration, they'd have the draft done and dusted well before the exams, so potential draftees who are sitting their VCE can just focus on their exams and not still be sweating on the draft.
I wonder what the kids themselves would say, who are in that position? What would they prefer?

What do these lads bring Smashbox?
Dylan Williams’s was a potential number 1 pick coming into the season but stress fractures in his back made him sit out. Half forward who can create something out of nothing Ala Stevie J.

Mahoney can play anywhere from small forward to mid, excellent foot skills and forward pressure. A lot of people rate more than Weightman. Was also injured a lot of the year. Was one of 3 players to play every U18 game as a bottom ager.

I do not think we should do it.
They were the idiots that did not do a sensible trade in the circumstances. If they admit later on they were a bit stupid a de-listing and apology to Martin should do from them. They stopped him training with his new team for a good month by the time he gets to here.
Martin can get permission to train with us well before the PSD.

Ah, this always happens, this painful lull of several weeks between the trade period and the Draft. There's not really much to talk about, but we keep the chatter going, kind of awkwardly, until the draft when there will be some fresh topics and real news to discuss, rave and melt over. I don't know why the AFL have to drag it out like this.* The draft should come hard on the heels of the trading - get it over with ffs! Then the clubs can have a few more weeks to work with their full squads before the Christmas break.

* Actually I do know why they do it - to keep footy in the news for as long as possible. I believe it is as pathetic as that. So that deep into cricket season, people are still talking about footy.
Can’t we just talk shit about list Mgt? Let’s let the SOS thing play out unless we get actual rumours. All we are doing is speculating and frankly it’s upsetting me. I love Stephen Silvagni. As does anyone over the age of 35 who barracks for the Blues. Let’s just wait for real rumours on this? Please?

I like it when yo
The only bloke who actually has the 'averages' to imply a 30 goal+ season isn't a fan favourite on here....and the other bloke who could do it was a top5 in B&F - but he is a VFL player as far as 'wisdom' on here goes...

So - I won't mention either player''s names.

#facts don't count on BF.
i like it when you’re cranky JAB

Not sure I can handle too many more talented but perpetually injured types on the list. Especially with bad backs that never get right.
"Yeah, but just wait until XYZ gets back.." and still saying it 2 years later.

Is i
It's all hypothetical isn't it?

Betts plays all year, might be him

Lang stays on the park and plays deep forward, could be him

Or you could be delusional like RedBull and think it was Weightman

Again I will ask, which small forward for the Tigers will kick most of their goals?
is it fair to call Weightman a poor man’s Ainsworth? I watched Ainsworth very closely his draft year and he was a LOT more impressive. Yet has been no instant quick fix up there. Still may be. But it shows how hard it will be for Weightman.

Reckon the kids would prefer to get drafted first, which is why it shouldn't be that way. You'd end up with a bunch of kids tanking their exams because they got picked up by an AFL club and reckon the academic stuff can piss right orff, and you'd get a bunch of kids who missed out on getting drafted who'd be gutted and would have to try and get their heads right to complete a bunch of exams.

Not much the players can do between now and draft night to change recruiters opinions (unless the pull a Charlie), but they can and should be working their asses off right up until their exams take place.

He performed really well, but I see him as a third forward, as he can mark well, but not chase or pressure.

His behind Curnow, McKay and McGoven and competing with tbe more versatile JSOS

Good depth

Pick two of Gov, JSOS and Bam Bam, is my theory. Don't want all three in the side, unless one is playing in a secondary position (defense, midfield) by necessity.

In a forward role, I think Gov and JSOS provide better balance. Bu if either was injured, out of form, or required elsewhere, I think you could sub Kennedy in and make it work.

Kennedy played mainly HFF for GWS and did the occasional midfield rotation. He had ambitions to play more midfield time but that was never going to happen at GWS - given their ridiculous midfield depth back then -so SOS picked him up for a second rounder..people were pretty excited about his potential when he first arrived - his JLT performances were strong as a support to Cripps and he picked up the nickname 'bam bam'...
first game into his first season played on ball next to Cripps in season opener and Carlton were smashing Richmond's Q1 on ball set ups, dominating clearances and contested ball and were looking like causing a major upset...
THEN in Q2 - both he and Kreuzer came off the ground with match ending knocks...and we ended up getting run over in Q4 by a much fitter and more developed Richmond.

Turns out Kennedy copped a bad ankle injury forgot which one of Kreuzer's many injuries saw him out. What was going to be a couple of weeks out turned out to be long term absence - don't know how Kennedy's injury was managed - but pretty much he was unable to make it back to Firsts for a couple of years - and was never a serious part of Bolton's plans going forward - what was strange was references by VFL watchers to how poor he was on field and how he had to learn to run the right patterns and how he was a slow plodder and to top it all off there was some rumours about kenendy getting even more on teh outer with Bolton because he liked some post that someone made on Twitter.

Fast forward and Bolton is gone and Teague gives Kennedy a run in forwards - Kennedy shows he actually knows how to play as a forward, takes contested marks, kicks clutch goals and sets up his team mates - even makes a few tackles and generally does a better job than some of the part timers shoved into forward roles...but lets not forget that Charlie was out, Levi was playing defensive miracles, harry was recovering from a strained groin and McGovern was either in or just out of fat farm - whilst Fisher/Dow were playing so bad that DeLuca was able to hold a starting position as a 'pressure forward'.

Looking forward - there may still be question marks about his ability to run as a midfielder - but he has lost a fair amount of weight judging by his build in later part of the year. It will be interesting to see whether or not Kennedy has recovered from his mismanaged injuries in the past or he becomes one of those blokes that never quite makes it.

Competition for forward spots will be pretty high in 2020 - meanwhile, Setterfield/Stocker/Dow/Walsh/SPS may have better claims to on ball and between the arc duties. Kennedy's one big advantage is that unlike those quoted above - he is an accurate and reliable kick anywhere inside 50. His nearest 'competitor' for a position is probably Jack Silvagni - both are probably looking to offer genuine ability to play HFF as well as do some midfield rotations.

Bolton lulled a lot into thinking that SPS/Dow/Fisher in particular were 'starting players' - with Martin/Newnes coming in - and a fit Cuningham/Marchbank/Williamson/Docherty to come back not to mention Walsh and Stocker - I am guessing the pressure will be on to get a starting gig for quite a few previous starting players. In that context - despite my bias for players with genuine mongrel - and Kennedy has that - I reckon he will struggle to be a starting 22 player unless his level of running power improves over this pre-season - if it does I think he beats a a few of the younger kids for footie smarts and genuine hardness.

Good post JaB.

I’d to raise another interesting point.

If/when we sign Jack Martin/Newnes, we will have many Jacks on our list.

Not quite as rich as St Kinda (not a typo) but we will have more than one Jack.

How will we fare with more than one Jack on the list?

Jack in the box.

Jack of all trades.

Jack. Jack. Jack.

These are the important topics that need discussing.

I think it's between him and SOS for that role but I see SOS ahead as he has more strings to his bow. I personally think you need one true utility on game day (in case of injury) and I think SOS will flourish this year. Can play forward, mid and D.

I’m going to be very petty here but this is something that really annoys me for some reason. Kennedy was not good in his first game for us before he go injured and I’ve seen it said about 50 times. He played a quarter of game time, 3 touches in the first quarter and one in the second before being injured. He had 3 pressure acts, four touches, four clangers, 0 contested possessions and 0 clearances. People my say he was blocking or something but not one AFL level midfielder who isn’t tagging gets a game with those type of stats. We were also winning by about 11 points despite Richmond having more scoring shots. We jumped them and were imo looking for excuses to why we lost so made out that Kennedy was playing well to justify it and over time it became fact.
Again sorry for being petty.

I hope so to. As a Carlton man i love having a Silvagni in the team. He made some giant strides this year and will need to continue to work hard to cement his spot. He will always be in danger of being dropped just being a utility so he needs to continue to prove his worth.
