I am unfamiliar with the Byzantine rules regarding dates and player status and multiple times that this or that contract or status can be changed and how one could go about managing a player out of one place into another - I guess my simple question is - 'is there a mechanism this year by which Shitney and Carlton can come to some sort of agreement regarding Papley to see Papley at Carlton in 2020?

Yes of course, Sydney can delist Papley, Papley would become a DFA and could then join us. Very unlikely, but GC did this with Lyons, delisted a contracted player.

It’s highly unlikely, but it is possible. GC delisted a contracted Lyons so that he could sign with the Lions.

It was a failure of Justinian that the rules never made it into his Codex

Players will stay if they're not going to be able to walk to their club of choice. It's as simple as that. This is helping GC retain their players. Additionally, when a player does end up to his club of choosing, it will be for a fair price. GC can only win from this strategy, they're not going to lose sleep for missing out on a late 2nd round pick or whatever.
I disagree, not trading an uncontracted player won’t help them one iota in the future. There’s no way they will be willing to lose someone like Lukosius for nothing, potential trading clubs know this.

GC refusing to trade him last year when he was contracted would have more of an effect than not accepting anything but overs for an uncontracted player. In my opinion, the Daniher and Papley situations will have a far greater effect on contracted players expecting to leave whenever and wherever they want.

Players will not extend their contracts.
Players will not want to go there.

Lukosious + Rankine won't leave unless it's to South Australia. The strategy is a good one. Either get a fair deal or the player stays. In extreme circumstances the player will go to the PSD which is unlikely. I think GC know that most players will rather stay than not go to their club of choice.

That large Western Jets haul of 2014 really hasn't amount to much at all with Viojo-Rainbow and now Menadue out, Ellis all but out at Gold Coast and Duggan being a servant but no stand-out features to date.

Menadue though - No thanks.
Surprises me that Duggan hasn't been more of a player for WCE. Looked like a super talent at the jets

This and it also makes the player more likely to talk to both clubs.
We were just unfortunate to be caught up in all of this. I think our offer was fair but I also think our second will end up being pushed out to ~28 and our third ~45. They don’t lose much by trying this approach. A pick upgrade and a future second isn’t overly crazy to ask for considering we were apparently offering a 4 year contract on good money and in apparently weaker even drafts.
Hopefully we end up with Martin and can all just move on.

Nice to see we recognise our 22 Senior Premierships.

;)

Is this better :p

That set up was so much better, we should never of changed it.

Try taking a photo with all the premiership cups now, impossible. Whomever came up with the current set up is incompetent. That space was replaced with nothing other than a couple of display panels, what a waste of prime position!

Who knows, this whole “off to the PSD” show might be the very basis on which the Crows negotiate for Lukosius next year. Wouldn’t be too surprised if they finished pretty low on the ladder.

Where we at right now RP? I was about to count it up but sounds like you’ve done it?
Yeah with newnes, we now have 35 on the main list, 3 on cat a rookie.

We take Martin, . That takes us to 36.

Take 3 in the draft, 1 spare for spp period, or mid year
You keep missing Owies cat b.
RP has also missed that the PSS only requires a spare Cat A rookie spot, of which we only have one.

Personally I'd rather we targeted someone in the draft or as a DFA (such as Hirst). Interested in Arr0w's take on his NEAFL performances.
