Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

Brayshaw more likely to move on from those 4, would be staggered if Viney is traded.

Brayshaw contracted for two more years, Viney a free agent.

I dunno how much Melbourne can afford to pay Viney, but I doubt it's as much as we could. He may stick fat regardless of external offers due to the family connection, but I'd make an offer that was very difficult to refuse.

+1 for Viney. Makes perfect sense as a recruit for us.

Flashy player but lacks a bit ticker for mine. Also way too injury prone for us.

I get the injury concerns but small forwards can be flashy by nature and the Bombers have been all over the shop his entire career.

He seems to make use of his opportunities, which I like.

As an aside, I’ve always thought Saad had ticker problems and was flashy. Certainly showed a distinct lack of heart at the GC.

I'm a fan of Saad. We desperately need a bit of a different "look" coming out of defence... He'll make it a bit more chaotic and I actually think that's a good thing, makes us less predictable exiting for the opposition to camp behind the ball etc.

Saad is a very interesting one. I am not a huge fan but he'd be a very nice fit.

Was not keen when he was leaving the Suns, has always had great pace but looked like a headless chook with ball in hand.

He is still prone to burning the ball, but he has improved that aspect of his game over the past few years, as he has his defensive ability.

I said at the time he's closer stylistically to Simmo than anyone else I can think of in the league, and I stand by that now with only Lachie Ash coming to mind as someone who also plays a very similar game.

And whilst I still think he'll remain a Bomber, it makes perfect sense we're linked to him again now that Simmo has retired. In fact the cynic in me thinks there may be a stronger link between the two than people realize.

It'll be interesting to see what happens there, but if he does want out and does nominate us, I shudder to think of dealing with the Bombers come trade time.

As for the Saad v Narkle question, there is no real comparison. Saad is the much better footballer.

Does Saad pass it over 50m though, think the criticism of him is he breaks lines but often thumps it over 50m but not necessarily to advantage.

Thqts the issue. Its all well and good to get a burst rebound 50 but if all it results in is another inside 50 to the opposition 20 seconds later then whats the point?

You're right, but he's arguably the best line breaker in the league, which is what we desperately need off of half back. Think about how effective Yarran was back there for us and I'd rate Saad above him in that role.

Jesus wept. Saad over Yarran? Yarran had speed (no pun intended) and was fantastic by foot and a better decision maker.

Yarran was so far ahead of what Saad is and could be. This is a genuinely poor comparison that I'll chalk up to recency bias and give you a pass.

Yaz was the most talented player we’ve drafted in recent times ...

I don’t think it’s cynical to make the connection between Simmo retiring and Saad being connected to us. Every team would be silly not to at least have a cup of coffee with him - we would have rocks in our head not to pursue.

And the thing is, his management know this, and they know that Dodoro will be desperate to keep him. He and Daniher are the only elite players the Bombers have going forward (unless you count Stringer or AMT) and if both leave, the Bombers are in full rebuild mode and Dodoro gets boned. If he is to keep his job, it starts with keeping those two. Saad will get PAID by Essendon IMO.

I agree and I should have said in my post that even though I had concerns about him I’d like him in our team because he does what very few can.

Only has to wreck to opposition structure 2-3 times a game and you start winning the close ones instead of losing them.

Yep. The added benefit of having Saad and Williams in the team is getting both Williamson and SPS further up the ground. If we have these two kicking to the big forwards we will be so much more clinical and efficient imo, would love to see Willo in particular delivering inside 50 more.

Won't happen, never will happen. Its just another version of the 'get Bontempelli' posts that will inevitably start to trickle in as the season comes to a close.

Mate, Pavlich IS coming. Its practically a done deal at this stage. Getting sick of the sceptics tbh...

Yep.
Simmo and Samo could mop up and give off but it was often short (Samo) or sideway (Simmo).

Newman and Marchy Back could do this as well, I'd still prefer us to target a midfielder/small forward, we have enough defenders

Well, of course if its simply a matter of being black and white about it. But Saad has 4 years on Narkle so youd expect him to be the better footballer. Its also 109 games vs 17. Again, youd expect Saad to be ahead.

Also different types of players. My preference is purely because with reduced lists i cant us being overly active with bringing in players this trsde period. My feel is that 3 is ideal and that our preference, in my opinion, should be Merret, Williams, Narkle. If Saad comes after those 3, fine. But unless Williams knocks us back Saad should be on the back burner. **** having to deal with * twice in the same trade week.
