***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

With Viney a RFA, Melbourne's offer must be somewhere in the ball park, or he would have walked out like Williams (?)
Or could his management just be trying to up his price shopping him around?
Or could his family connection to the club have the club low balling him?
If there was an major issue like the captaincy being taken off him, I'd have thought he would have 'jumped ship' by now as Williams has.
Thoughts?

I’m fully aware if you pay peanuts yr get ......s. I’ve followed the club since the early 70’s.
he would have a better chance achieving a premiership with us than Adelaide in the short to mid term.
if a player (any sport) has no intention of moving they’re likely to say zip publicly...it’s when they broadcast that message the underlying message is they want a move.

Nobody said he 'wanted' a move, he wants to be part of success at Carlton,BUT if he doesn't feel that he can see it happening he will move. Next year is critical in that regard, he's a RFA at the end of the year.

I know it was stated Saad will stay or go Saints or us, but weren't Dees and North heavily interested as well
They were, doesn't mean he was

Williams isn’t worth the $750k that’s been flouted around, $450-500 max.

My key wants for 2021 that won’t cost a kings ransom.
A. Saad. Good replacement for Simmo with plenty of upside.
B Crouch.
McGovern to halfback or trade him.
kicking coach.

Does it really matter how much we pay him as long as we can get him into our TPP.

We've been saying this for years.

Geelong are a bit different.

They've got their own little go-home factor where they don't compete with any other team, which is proving pretty bloody helpful. As well as basically a free 9 wins at their home ground each year. Several of their 'away' games are 1 hour up the road at very familiar grounds where their fans can pack out 40% of the joint.

Having said all that they are a seriously impressive organisation.

Certainly been a powerhouse since the Dank years of the mid 2000s

And seem to be able to accommodate/retain an endless string of top end players -because they get a slice of Bomber's land cake?

He has only played 34/61 in the last 3 years. Going into next season he'll be 27 with only 95 games under his belt. Not sure how you can question someone describing him as injury prone
I blanked on the 2018 season when checking the stats, and edited the post, but the question remains the same: aside from a freak hamstring re-injury, what has the last 3-5 years of his career looked like that has you scared away?

He had to go in for corrective surgery for groin issues, but we've seen that with multiple players when they struggle with things like OP for a while. If anything, clubs seem to try and get them to play through for far too long before electing for the procedure.

Of course with more interest it would push the price higher. Higher and overpaying are considerably different

If our offer is at market value, Dees might not match ( up pussies bow with their cap), others could offer more, but that doesn't necessarily sway his decision
There are times when you push the envelope, and there are times when you don't. I look for elite or high-value talent in that kind of space, and Viney is middling while likely demanding a high price tag.

He'd be a rotation midfielder earning top 10 salary figures at the club. Drive up Geelong's offer and move on, IMO.

Why not? What is the downside of Zac Williams?

Your statement alludes that there are better options in the FA, when there inst any All-Australian or Superstars in the 2020 FA class ? Are you suggesting that we avoid luring good players because there are better prospect next year?

Edit: You referring to Jack Viney, the same principle applies to him.
See above.

Reckon if you think that was the sole reason SOS moved on last year I've a bridge up here in Sydney you might like to buy.

When will it be time to move on from last year?
We were discussing Jack. Jack is a current issue. It's not relevant whether I think Jacks father moved on for one reason only. Your bridge is an illusion.

Get all of Saad, Graham, Viney and Narkle.

We need to compete next year.

Cripps the only key out of contract next year. We need to impress. Him and the fans. It's time.

I'm not sure we would get all of them, but I agree we need to be aggressive this trade period.
Would love another mid (Kelly, Taranto, Viney), Saad and Narkle/Lonie would be great business for us.

What's the knock on Brayden Fiorini?

Has no problem finding it, good tackle and reasonable clearance numbers...is he a bit ineffectual? Never seen him stand out much, on admittedly limited viewing.

It does...what was Sydney’s financial gain paying Franklin $1ml (if that figure is correct) over his contract period..I doubt there investment over the contract period is in the black.

You've chosen Buddy's massive contract as an example.
To get a FA you have to pay, and with length of the contract as well.
He's a very good get given he ticks a number of boxes for us.

So your gripe with Viney is that you are concern about his pay grade. What do you suggest we do with us having to spend 105% capped?

Even so I would suggest Viney would be a top 10 player with our current list.

Listing the few.

Cripps
Walsh (deserves a payrise)
Weitering
Harry Mckay
C Curnow

not sure there are many others unless you banking a few to take a massive a leap.

He has been on an AFL list since 2012 and has had one season where he has missed less than 5 games. He has also had 3 seasons without playing a single game. As a soon to be 27 year old these should be enormous red flags

How many players who have missed so much footy due to injury suddenly become durable in the latter years of their careers? These players also don't age well in terms of on field impact due to the accumulated impact of the mass of injuries they've suffered
