***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

Latest contract extensions:

Levi - 1yr
Murphy - 1yr
Curnow - 1yr
Newman - 1yr
Honey - 1yr (rookie)
Cottrell - 1yr (rookie)
Gibbons - 1yr (senior)
Philp - 2yrs (+1)
Marchbank - 2yrs
Plowman - 3yrs

I like how short all those contracts are. Austin not handing out long contracts to fringe/senior players shows the club is still in charge and the players want to be here.

If Saad is being this heavily linked to Melbourne, you'd think the $$ would be better than what we're offering.
If $$ is his only motivation then so be it, he can go there.
Was stoked to hear that we told Williams the same thing, if it's more money you want, we're not the club for you.
Same applies to Saad. We don't necessarily NEED him, he's just a good target and suits our lineup.
Happy to pay for mids at this point.

Surely SOS was just doing his job at the time ? - I can remember reading all sorts of comments on here about how great Jacsh will be and what a midfield beast Whiley was - Malthouse reached for his type of 'special' a couple of trade periods - even recruiting Boekhurst - who had slagged off at the Club in his social media - that one was pure genius - SOS's fault there as well I guess..

Tell you what - SOS would NO WAY have sanctioned the Judd deal and anyone who still thinks we 'won' something out of that remains delusional - the chosen ones strategy was always going to end up with middling Club status and not a sustainable one at that - the cost of the deal was way way to high and the introduced pay disparities murdered culture and team harmony - but the marketing imperative worked for a couple of years.

and in saying all that no SOS isn't 'perfect' like anyone he has his biases - sometimes they work out for the best and sometimes not- players/development/coaches are all variables that impact over time - and recruiters can only take so much responsibility for success OR failure.

I look forward to seeing what Austin does- I suspect he will do ok for us - as he seems to be more systems-based and our Club is in a much better list position than it was when SOS was handed the keys to an absolute rabble - Austin is building from strong foundations.

I didn't mind that we were keen on Boekhorst in that draft, but as a 3rd/4th rounder. Remember spitting out my carpaccio when we called his name out so early

JSOS wants out. Saad is gettable trade wise if he choses us, but probably going to another club at this stage.

Teague, just doesn't seem to get him as a player. Strange. He is heart n soul type stuff.

I get the feeling Setterfield was given a longer contract than what was reported when we signed him. There's never been a confirmation and the contract status is just assumed to be 2020.

Pittonet and Willo the same, I have them listed as unknown
I agree. Setterfield was in demand at the time from other clubs when we recruited him, it would have required more than a 2 year contract to get him to select us.

Disappointing end to the Silvagni legacy at Carlton...SOS pushed out by Liddle, BSOS delisted and JSOS traded.

My guess would be JSOS a bit disgruntled with what happened with SOS...family comes first. Also maybe doesn't see a spot in our best 22 since we clearly prefer McGovern for that '3rd tall' role...or could even just go big with Cas/McKay/Curnow and Gov down back.
