***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

If we are the worst drilled midfield, that's one for the coaches. What will change next year in that regard?

hopefully Barker thanked for his services and dismissed which is well overdue and we bring in someone who can work a good role in this space. I know who id target but have no idea if they’re available.

Silvagni’s ceiling is low. An objective assessment is a Good attitude on the field with a good work rate to get the best of himself, courageous, plays the role given to him, decent disposal by foot and reads the game okay.

The detractors are he can’t hold marks above his chest (often prefers to just take them on his chest), gets beaten in 1:1 strength/positioning contests, doesn’t have leg speed nor the engine to spend much time in the guts. Doesn’t have a terribly good goal sneak ability eithe

Doesn’t have the presence to be able to play more than a 3rd forward / flanker or 3rd defender with the problem being his speed/ability to match up on a decent opposition forward if he was to switch ends of the ground.

So he’s one of those players who won’t be a match winner but will bob up every so often to be useful, but you can’t question his work rate. We have a few of these types already so he’s one amongst many with a few ready to overtake.

I would prefer to keep him over McGovern personally but if he is trading out it’s not a loss at all. He doesn’t add or take away from what will (or won’t) make a successful team.

Cuningham (who I don’t really care much for), appears to have a higher ceiling with at least one weapon at his disposal (pace), not to mention his work rate is solid. So he should be more valuable to the team moving forward with more upside than Silvagni.

thats my view, so if he’s off I wish him all the best and May we make the most out of any currency he might have. (3rd round?)

1. Reads the game brilliantly, not just okay.

2. Gets beaten in strength contests only when he is playing on bigger key defenders. So when he is forced to play as a main target due to injuries.

3. Also has the presence to play as an inside midfielder and occasionally tagging taller, average speed midfielders.

4. Cuningham and JSOS are not like for like. I don't know why they are being compared. Jack is a utility if anything.

According to some, there is a conflict of interest there as Barks is good mates with the powers that be.

I reckon it might be Wines that we chase hard this year.

Last year's kerfuffle and the constant chatter about him make me feel that he is available.

I reckon we put the first rounder on the table, secure him + Williams and a small forward, maybe Saad.

Trade out draft assets now for mature talent

Viney won’t leave the D’s. I remember when he was vying to be drafted, the D’s were throwing smokescreens; as to whether or not they’d select him with an early pick. IIRC, it was reported that he warned them that if they didn’t select him he’d never join them later on. The kid operates on principle. I think the only way he‘d leave the D’s is if they grossly insult him or want him out.

I actually find it amazing how people just want to b*tch and moan about every aspect of the club, all the time.

Teague is no good, the assistant coaches are no good, Liddle is no good, Russell is doing a sh*t job, half the list is no good, Austin is no good, we're paying Zac Williams too much etc.

Just so pathetic and embarrassing.
So many who are Frumpy at every turn? Almost wasted energy...

Not sure that Wines would want to go now that Port are going well. He looked great this year though. I would love him at Carlton.

I have a feeling we aren't too keen on picking up Ben Silvagni and Darcy Lang...

But may be looking to double down on Callum Moore types. It's risky but only a liddle bit.

He and Hinkley do not get on allegedly.

So he may jump anyway

Would be the ultimate pick up for us right now - but can't see it happening. Could be another Goddard to Carlton yearly trade week gossip.

I think he reads it well, not brilliant. If that were true he would be making more of himself (outside injury).

regarding marking he can’t mark above his head, even in contests against a similar opponent he might break even on a good day, but overall he’s poor in this area (right now).

if he’s a utility then there’s others who are ahead of him. The example of Cuningham is important because if you’re looking at X number of role players in a team and both of those are competing for those positions. Cuningham probably has more to offer even though they bring different options to the team.
I don’t agree he has the ability or presence as an inside midfielder. It hasn’t been displayed as an angle to his game even though stints have been tried (not succesfully at senior level).

We can disagree. Nothing wrong with that.
