Happily give up pick 7 for Saad if that gets it done quickly as long as their future 2nd comes with him.

That more than likely will be a pick 20-25 in 2021 the way they are heading.

Don’t want to spend 2 weeks haggling with Dodo,

Absolutely not. Pick 7 will be earmarked for an A-grader (Wines, Merrett, Kelly) or an 18yo midfielder in the ND.

Pick 25 “should” get it done....we might even need to swap some later picks around. Remember Saad is out of contract so Essendon can’t play hardball like we did with Gibbs 4 years ago.

Agree with you our 2nd rounder should be ok with a sweetener may end up closer to pick 30 though? there may be some anguish but it should eventuate and Saad us a good addition address our lack of zip in defence

Pick 27.

THIS!

First let me just say, we gave up pick 33 for a 21 year old uncontracted Docherty. Pick 28 for Plowman and others. Marchbank & Pickett for first round pick with a second coming back plus change,
I would seriously be p1$$ed, if we offered anymore then our second rounder for a 27 year old half back flanker, who has limitations in playing positions and isn’t a lock down defender.

I also find it interesting that Essendon supporters are content for a pick around 15, considering most here always point to the fact supporters always overvalue their own and we are talking Essendon. However, our very own are falling over themselves to pay a premium.

Smells of desperation and another McGovern situation.........let’s hope the club has learnt, because most supporters certainly haven’t.

what did doc and Marchy do in their first season? Nada. Saad is coming from three top three bnf finishes. Ready made and ready to go. You want ready made talent you somewhat pay

TCP has already said we are trying to trade pick 7 and a third rounder for 2 x 1st rounders from Geelong.

Pretty obvious the idea is that one of those picks which would be around 15-18 would be for Saad. It's a compromised draft and also doesn't sound like a 2018 superdraft...some people a little too focused on the number of the pick or that its a '1st rounder'.

I don't get the fascination with Shiel.

Am I happy with Setterfield? Yes
Did we get the better trade value? Likely
Do I feel any grievance he 'snubbed us'? No

The guy genuinely seemed keen on two clubs and by all accounts, it was close to the wire.

Did he make the wrong choice? Probably.
Do I wish him any ill? No

Have I asked too many rhetorical questions in this post? Definitely

“Have I asked too many rhetorical questions“

Is that you Bruce McAveney???????

Or it could be with Brisbane who have 18&19 and might want 7 for Jodie.

One person I hope the club is keeping tabs on is Will Sutherland.

Would have been a top 5 selection in the Paddy Dow draft I believe.

Has Blicavs type versatility. Not really setting the Cricket world on fire even though it is still really early doors.

With uncertainty around international travel you would assume less opportunities to play in the 20 20 leagues so earning potential is not what it normally is.

Potential Cat B rookie down the track.

If Dylan Shiel chose to come to Carlton, I reckon we all would have been defending him and saying we made the right decidion to make the trade. Hindsight is funny like that.
.

Wanted setterfield first that period, age profile mostly but I think Shiel would have been a different player with us. If dons ever got a proper inside midfielder he'll look much better I reckon

It was obvious before it became obvious :)

Geelong would know what it's for and if they choose to go down that path (and I think they would) they may be inclined to ask for a little more also.
Maybe a swap of seconds this year or next.

If no Saad though..........no deal

Made 154 in a shield warm up game a couple of days ago and took 2 fa. He has a bright future and will play the whole season at state level this year. Better player than alex keath to try and compare
Him and cameron green are the nex gen of all rounder for australia. They will get plenty of opportunity to show their wares

They were both 1st round picks.

let’s make a similar trajectory to where doc and marchy were at at the time. Jackson hately per se, pick 14 ish from two years ago.

who makes a better impact at Carlton next year?
Hately or Saad?
Who costs more?

it’s not rocket science, our window is opening. You pick the ready made player and pay if you have too

We'll be beating ourselves up if we couldn't sort out a trade with * over Saad.

As annoyed as I'd be to lose 7 over an uncontracted player, I'd be even more annoyed if we couldn't get a trade completed and he goes elsewhere.

If players nominate us, we just need to make it happen.

Can't agree with that. There's always a tipping point.

What if they said they wanted 2 x first round selections + Sam Walsh. Would you be pissed off if we decided to walk away?

Draft currency is limited. The TPP is limited. Teams that win flags tend to be the ones that manage and get the best value out of both of these.

Lets not lose our minds here. He's a 26 year old HBF with probably 4 good years of football left in him.

If the Dons want pick 7, we should walk away from the trade. There will be other options available to us.
