He’s staying at Essendon. That’s my intel today gang.

Its all pretty much irrelevant. I am very, very, very confident he will be signing with Essendon.
What is the benefit to a 26 year old playing for Essendon , with an ageing list, dysfunctional admin and football departmen & whose support base is out of touch with the clubs lack of prospects and irrelevance to such an extent that they need to rely on bringing back their coach from 1981 to turn them around?

struggling to differentiate your description of * with your descriptions of carlton.............

I’ll still back our itk’s in all the way despite what bomber Dave10 is suggesting
dunno the percentages but established players are always more likely to stay than go.............

I suspect players are going to veer away from joining perpetual mid-range sides: Essendon, Hawthorn, North etc. The league is way too unpredictable to sign a long term deal with a side who may or may not even into a premiership window.

Either nominate a legitimate contender or take your chances with a club on the way up who‘ll provide you with a big contract.
I would put Carlton in that list too.

It’s a reasonable question. My view is the list is better than most give credit. Sure it’s not apparent based on results. Lots of issues with the club impacting performance: Culture manifests via standards & accountability (fat players, returning saga players not dropped whilst not performing etc), injury management, player development, executing game plan etc. The list has 7 All Australians on it but few playing to capability for reasons mentioned. It’s complex but all cumulative and linked together but I can’t explain all in here.

These are all driving underperformance. I think the theory is address standards and performance culture, land game plan execution, drive higher accountability, fix injuries and address gaps in player development leads to much stronger performance in 2021+.

I suggest Saad is buying into that belief... Rightly or wrongly.

But things can and do change so who knows what happens next!

Tell that to Papley and Daniher. LOL.

But yea, you're bang on the money with how the player manager would handle the situation.

15-20 is overs as it is. If you were looking for a comparable trade, the Zac Jones move from Sydney to St Kilda would be a comparable one. Pick #32 plus some back end upgrades of 3rd and 4th rounders.

If we're offloading much more than our 2nd rounder this year, we haven't done a very good job negotiating at the trade table.
Papley and Daniher were contracted players. Saad isn't. Irrelevant comparison.
As for Zac Jones, Saad is only 8 months older but have been a far more consistent performer. Not much trade comparison there either.
I dont think anyone is saying Saad is worth pick 7 but if we can split 7, still end up with a first rounder and get Saad, I think it's a great outcome. Our game style is too one dimensional coming out of defence because we lack line breakers. Saad would add a heap to our versatility as a team.

easy, champion......

Did the 10ks, sweated like a dray oxen, laundry done.

Getting into the Turkish bread with a bit of ham, tomato & mustard, featured ingredient....Coriander.

Roast lamb going on at half 4.

bit of herb, Ted 2, then into the footy on the SuperBig telly.

Living the dream....

Wasn't making a comparison between Saad, Papley and Daniher. Just making an observation that trades don't always go through despite players publicly nominating a club of choice.

Saad's actually 16 months older. Still stand by my assessment of both Saad and Jones having comparable years. They've both been consistent. Jones is more of a natural midfielder and he showed what he can do when played in position this year.

You don't need to be quick to be a line breaker though. You can be that player with a penetrating kick, which is probably the more favourable option because you can maintain your defensive structures whilst transitioning the ball. When someone goes on a speedy run, it suddenly makes your defense out of position. It's a big reason why Essendon are so inconsistent, because they use too many run and carry players out of defense, leaving them exposed.

Still prefer to find a way to make our 2nd the main piece of the trade should he nominate us. It only makes sense to split the pick if we acquire another player of similar quality to Saad. Otherwise remain as high up the draft order as possible. We need to be strong and not cave to Dodoro's trade requests for an OOC player.

Putting large contracts in front of players is easy. Austin will need to show his worth through negotiations at the trade table. That's the hard part.

If GWS are only offering Cameron $700k per season, their TPP situation must be worse than what people think.

"GWS Giants is staying strong on a five-year offer of around $700,000 per season for star forward Jeremy Cameron."

Or it means they don’t want him and have kept the bar high enough that for him to walk it will be for more than what they are offering which would mean first round compensation

I believe they would also get compensation for Williams and Corr? So maybe a first round, second round and third round which they can use to get in players at base salary - plus their own existing picks so they may be trading up before the draft
