I'd take Lachie Hunter anyday of the week over De Goey. Dogs would be desperate to get some draft picks in for their kid. Pick 7 and 28 might cut it for Hunter i would reckon. Saad can be done with future 1st and maybe a 3rd as well?

C - L.Hunter P. Cripps S.Walsh
R - T. De Koning Z. Willams W. Setterfield

Thats is an amazing core with ample back up. Plus Hunter would not cost us an arm and a leg in salary
I'm very weary of the idea of the possibility of writing off at least two thirds of this year's and next year's drafts just for the return of three players (one a free agent to boot). There's absolutely no guarantee they'll improve us enough in the short term, especially given the flakiness of certain areas of our list and our susceptibility to injury. If our best chances of finding decent players in the draft are going to start in the second round of next year then who we get back will need to be a bloody good player, I don't think the names being bandied about quite fill that bill, perhaps not even Oliver.

FWIW - Brendan Goddard said Daniher was lazy and didn’t put the effort into his rehab/fitness that he should have - so the issues he was having were not a surprise.
Goddard is coming fairly close to being my preferred AFL opinion columnist. He's completely unafraid to have a red hot crack at the AFL and at players for shit he doesn't like. He came down suuuuper hard on Dylan Grimes before that furor over his dive for diving.

Even now he's retired, he's very good at whipping out that pointing finger.

Yeah, wasn't it great when being an a-hole was considered leadership.

Fun tip, it may work for you, but most people just resent bullies.

Nothing wrong with leaders being an ‘a-hole’ at times, some people respond well to tough love. Some people need to take it less personally (in a team environment).

However, leaders also need to know when to put their arms around people.

The best leaders cater/balance their approach without corrupting fundamental expectations.

No top flight player wants to come to a club during the rebuild phase where success is sketchy. And the SOS era was the rebuild phase. Now, top flight players can look at our list and see that we’re finally going somewhere and want to be a part of the sustained success.

Austin is benefiting from the work that SOS put into building the list to the point where we’re at now.

Not to mention SOS got Martin & Papley's nomination last year who are relatively on par with Saad & Williams. The fact SOS was able to turn it around and make us an attractive destination within 4 years was great work.

It was evident during the finals Dogs were lacking a tall intercepting defender, would anyone consider pick 27 and Marchy for Hunter? Dog's get the tall intercepting defender they desperately need and pick 27 helps them with the points they need to match bid.

Dogs would never take that.

After all the near misses and rumours of the SOS era, it would be rather funny if Austin lands Oliver, Williams and Saaad in his first year

Actually, think a lot of why we’re in a position to offer good money and have a playing list that attracts quality players from other clubs is because of SOS.

That’s not taking anything away from Austin, because he certainly deserves top points so far.
