My initial post was to trade pick 7 for Saad and their future 2nd, not a straight trade of 1st rounders

Hadn't seen that - only responded to this comment:

" Whats pick 7 worth compared to other years though? Id rather we use it somehow to increase our hand in 2021 draft. "

If you're talking 7 for Saad and a future second (which we'll assume is in the 19-25 range?), I'd still want to know that future second was getting us something valuable now.

Otherwise I'd prefer to flip 7 for two firsts this year, use one of those firsts for Saad, and then have the flexibility to use the other pick at the draft if we see a player we like, or trade it live to another club who do.

Live trading is where it's at now.

GC gave up Pick 22 and 17 to get Pick 11 from us because they loved Flanders, and we still got the player we wanted (Kemp).
GC also gave up Pick 11 this year and Pick 64 last year for Pick 27 last year because they really wanted Jeremy Sharp.
Brisbane swapped a future second for a future fourth so they could move up one spot and get Dev Robertson.

If there's an opportunity to pick up an extra draft pick in the late first or early second round, we should make sure it's in this year's draft. Regardless of the lack of junior footy, clubs will have indentified players they like and they will give up overs to secure them when the clock starts ticking.

Saad - will cost big $ to move him on a lengthy contract. Will cause all sorts of grief at the trade table - dragged out til the last minute and possibly cost us someone who may end up being way more valuable. Add to this Saad is most likely just using us as leverage. LEAVE IT BE!! WALK AWAY!! WASTE OF TIME!

100%
Saad should be given the Williams speech;'If you want more money then we are not the club for you'

Our offer is our offer, so use it to get a better deal with *, but dont come back wanting more.
Better and younger options available (somewhere).

Might be a good time to chill out and see the offers that might come in for our #7. What's the hurry?
Mike if we haven’t traded, split up, received back and ultimately got Kelly, Heeney a gun kid and Saad with that pick by Prelim final week Austin just isn’t doing his job.

I’ve got an F- grade Just waiting to be handed out.

TICK TOCK, NICK. TICK TOCK.

Eddie Betts is a GF player. Is he less of a leader or incapable of doing the same mentor role as a Smith?
Eddie doesn't have comparable experience in a highly successful club for a start. It's not really a comparison of two similar thing

I can't see any downside whatsoever in bringing this type of player to the club.

Yeah, cause bringing in older players to teach the young guys things, even though it means that they play VFL instead of AFL, is a sure fire tactic of working.
He’s still a very good player and definitely wouldn’t be in our 2’s next year. My wife is a Hawk and I watch plenty of them, especially what he did to us in Perth 😬. These stringy types seem to go on forever - Bartlett, Bradley, Fletcher, Tuck, Simmo etc.

Where do I sign?

I think your problem is you're speaking definitively based on nothing more than your assumptions.

You're fine to be firm in your beliefs, but don't be surprised if you get called out on it from time to time.

Kelly turning down North a year ago isn't relevant. They were a fringe club trying hard to sign a big name. Very little in the way of talented youth. An ordinary form line. And GWS were coming off a close semi-final loss to a side then went on to lose the GF by a kick. Understandable that Kelly would turn them down to go around again with GWS.

Fast forward 18 months, and GWS have had a horribly inconsistent year, missed finals entirely, dropped their captain late in the year (a sure sign things aren't right at the club), are massively over the salary cap, are losing at least 2 other best 22 players, potentially 3 if Cameron goes. There is a reason Kelly's deal was structured as 2 years + a long term extension. He wasn't completely convinced. And they've absolutely dropped the ball the following year. And one of the clubs potentially chasing him is on the rise, has been competitive in all games this year, has quality youth on every line...and yeah, money to spend.

I'm not saying I reckon we'll get him. But to brush it off the way you have is a bit silly.
Taking on board what you said but at the same time Kelly rejected north 2 years ago hence signing a 2 year contract. If Kelly was to leave, i would imagine he would go to a club in a window. Yes my comments was an assumption but so is everyone elses on the page. You just have to go to the rumours only page to see that where they chop and change rumours daily.

If Kelly was to leave for another club, i hardly doubt they would let Taranto, Kelly and Cameron all leave in the same year as i do believe Cameron will go.
