I feel very sad at how this SPS situation is (likely) going to pan out. His first year at the club was excellent. I don't know if it's coaching, development, or Samo not wanting it enough, but whatever has happened, it has been a monumental failure.
Someone like Clarkson (still not 100% on board) would absolutely LOVE to have an SPS type at his disposal. All mindset, role and coaching with SPS - all three of which have arguably been ****ed the last 2 years.

I know its an easy bow to draw with Cerra because he's from WA and has the talent to match Cerra, but I hope we retain and he goes on to become the star we hoped he would be when we drafted him.

If Russell survives the great cull, he'd be a perfect project to get fit. Won't cost much and will be the best quality KPD on the market dollar for dollar.
he'll survive, especially if the rumours of him being overruled have some substance to them. He's got Charlie back on the park, that's gotta be worth a bit. Plus there's the Clarko connection

So would Marchbank.

I'd say the first criteria for an incoming depth player should be to be injury free - IE available from day one.
Correct.

Like the last couple of talls we brought onto our list.

Omac and Mirkov were healthy and good to go from day 1.

Unfortunate the Carlton injury curse got them and broke them almost immediately.

Absolutely - yes he has his limitations, but his strengths are a rare commodity. I'm extremely confident he will flourish in a new environment, whether that's under a new Carlton or a new club.

Maybe a fresh start will be best for him. Weather that be with a new coach at Carlton or somewhere else.

But yes at the moment it's looking like a big failure. When I watched this young man entering his prime years, not be able to make the distance on a 35 meter shot on goal the other week.. almost made me lose all hope for him.

Extra credit for enjoining a discussion that touches on toxic concepts of gendered behaviour with the disclaimer that the "argument doesn't need winning".

Points off for "engender masculinity", not because the phrase is arguably tautologous but coz I don't like it.

Nevertheless, the substance of your argument is both laudable and undeniable.
Chur bro. Whilst we're being open and honest and vulnerable, I'm a little queasy on enjoining. Got a bit of an embiggens vibe about it.

I'd like McGovern to add 3rd tall/intercept defender to his kit bag. Honestly believe he'd be extraordinary in this role...

But most of all, I'd like Gov to get and stay fit.

I reckon so too and not just for his intercept marking, nor the simpler requirements of the role, which I think would suit him - we are crying out for exceptional kicking skills from defence and he would provide that. The only question mark is that he doesn't like sitting under a high ball/putting his body on the line, but I don't think that would prevent him from being very effective floating across and coming at the ball.

Enjoin? It’s a perfectly cromulent word.

I'm sure you already know this and are just pulling my leg, but it's the opposite of injunct.

Apologies, but the wordplay simply appealed...a charming paralipsis

"We won't argue, but if we did; this is how I'd win..."

bit of positive reinforcement.

He does it once or twice, don't underestimate the impact the respect of his team mates might have.

Blokes like Mitch are potential match winners, if you can get the ball in his hands 15-20 times a game...
