Sorry for intrusion, just spreading a rumour I have heard.

Clarkson will coach Carlton in 2022.

The review is a smokescreen, it was called as soon as Luke Sayers got word Clarkson was interested in 22.
Collingwood then found out Clarkson was gone (we wanted him as well) and we moved on Buckley to start our search.

Clarkson went to the Hawthorn board and used 'Collingwood's vacancy' (perfect cover) as a point to move the succession plan discussion along.
Totally off the mark

Who puts them down as people?
Hope your not referring to me, if so please give me examples...
I support all Carlton players and only talk about their spot on the list, purely football not personal..

Sorry haven't noticed that, probably haven't been looking for it either...
If people have been attacking the man, then totally agree with you, they should pull their socks up... :thumbsupv1:

No, I only quoted you for the 'let people have opinions line'. The rest as I said was what i thought that the issue you hadn't addressed was.

But who will coach Hawks until 2023 then hey?
I reckon he will stay another year. Ta for info though.
Hawthorn's succession plan has been announced today. Think this one - given the timeline for it's announcement versus Mitchell's withdrawal from the Collingwood job - might have a few legs.

If posting history is anything to go by its a lock for Clarkson to be our coach next year after that post.

Fogarty wasn't happening, Oliver was, Petrucelle was coming to Victoria, Papley was going to request a trade to us again next year

I guess, like all info, it has moving parts and constantly evolves in different directions

I was told ( and somewhat shared it) that Tom Phillips was leaving the Pies and might head our way. Trade never happened, but left a year later.

On Clarko, gut feet he stays at the Hawks for the remainder of his contract

Im not to sure. I can’t see clarko retiring after next year.
If Carlton comes calling with the list we have and the potential, which has underperformed for a variety of reasons. I think he may see us a good project.

I think Kennett has almost pushed clarko out.

I don’t think we are that far away. With the right people in our footy department and the right coach I think we are closer than most believe.

If Clarkson takes another job next year, he will have to leave the Hawks before the end of 2021. It’s untenable. He can’t stay there now - unless he has no intentions of coaching again

I see reasonable arguments both ways. Both intel sides adament the other wrong.
I guess we can expect that our coaching situation is between The Lion the Hawk and the Train. Step thru the wardrobe and ask the little horned dude with hairy legs, but don't faun over him.
Failing that maybe O.R or Barrass can drop a hint.

I don't know how to do this properly so hope it make sense.
I was reading this in the Steve Hocking conflict thread post number 539

You may be joking - but it is really bad optics for the AFL.

In his new role Hocking will have knowledge of player contracts across the AFL, clubs’ salary cap space and difficulties, future directions of rule changes impacting on recruiting, a hotline to Gil and all sorts of confidential knowledge he could leverage.

So typical of the AFL.

nobody can definitively say that clarko will coach us in 2022. if teague wins 9 games this year, followed by 12-13 next year, you really think he would be sacked?

i doubt clarko would come to us after we turfed bolton anyway.

i actually reckon he's done as a senior coach. completely misjudged his list post-2015 and has played a big part in butchering it. been at it 15 years and in the past 4-5 years other coaches have seemed more innovative. would be mick all over again imo.

It's been going on for a long time though, admin people move from clubland to AFL head office and vice versa. I don't know that it's such a big advantage. Where else do you find people with experience in the AFL? Usually will come from another club or the AFL itself.

Andy McKay came to us from the AFL, Lethlean to St.Kilda, Jackson from AFL to Melbourne.

This will force Carlton’s hand. Once in a generation coach becomes available. 2 clubs (at least) need a coach. We’d be nuts not to seriously look at this opportunity. Surely we will.

We've let outside influences force our hands into making changes/decisions before, hopefully for once we give everything due consideration at the right time and do what is right for us. There's no need for us to be jumping at anything at this stage.

Except for Dow, Stocker, McKay, Walsh and you could argue weitering, tdk etc.

The problem is that no one thinks that players should do long apprenticeships in the twos these days, and if they do it is taken as a sign that the player won't make it.

Staying out of the LOB arguments but it seems to me that Carroll, honey, Ramsay and Kemp are coming along nicely in the reserves. None are ready yet but could play in case of emergency. Expect them to get the odd game if we can't make the finals, but it is not the slightest problem if they don't.
Abso****inglutely. Some of our greatest players came up through the reserves. Played a few games in the seniors, and back to the reserves. I‘ve repeatedly stated that some of our supporters have IGS (instant gratification syndrome) and repeatedly demand that the club satisfies their wants immediately. If a high draft pick isn’t playing week in week out, the kid must be a dud and is never a player who needs to grow into his body and adapt to those changes.

Not every kid is ready to go day one. Some kids have a late growth spurt (in my case, when I was 18… I started growing. Going from 5’6” tall and 67kg to 6’(ish) and 95kg in 12 months).

And to turn around and say that a kid never had talent is the biggest insult going to anyone on an AFL list. They were good enough that a recruiter put their name on a draft list for a club. They made it onto a club list… something that probably 95% of us, commenting on here about these players, never did.

I actually think there are two "once in a generation" coaches going around at the moment and how are both going now that they don't have the cattle they once had or, as it appears with Hardwick, the same support of the players?

I remember the criticism of Bolton for not bringing McKay into the side quicker, how it was gonna stifle his development etc, who do we reckon was right looking back at it now? I'd say the club did the right thing in allowing him to develop in the appropriate place, the reserves.
