And - while this feels sincere - it also feels a bit like gaslighting.

I'm okay, Andy. It's a new day, and I've fresh things to rile my blood pressure. It's good for me.

Life ends when passion dies.
Today i learnt a new word - gaslighting

The Last Train to Clarkson (2021 mix)
By The Monkees
🎼🎶🎵🎤🎸🥁🎹

Take the last train to Clarkson
And I'll meet you at Teague station
You can be here ‘til twenty thirty
'Cause We’ve made a presentation

Don't be slow
Oh, no, no, no
Oh, no, no, no

'Cause your team they will be mourning
And must see you once again
Might be one more year together
'Til review ends the Teague train

And he must go?
Oh, no, no, no
Oh, no, no, no

And we don’t know
If he’s ever coming home

Take the last train to Clarkson
Did he say ‘no’ with indignation?
We'll have time for Lygon pasta dishes
And a bit of conversation

Oh, no, no, no
Oh, no, no, no

Take the last train to Clarkson
Now I must turn off the phone
I can't hear you in this
Noisy footy thread, all alone
I'm feelin' low

Oh, no, no, no
Oh, no, no, no

And I don't know
If Teague is home

Take the next train to Lyon
It’s a stop he keeps denyin’
He might coach in twenty 22
It’s not up to me and you. . .

I can remember a time on this board only a few years ago when people used to object to criticism of their opinion by saying that they were 'entitled' to it, referring to a notion of freedom of speech. At the time, I reminded those people that criticism of an opinion is not a violation of their freedom of speech, and that freedom of speech is not freedom from criticism.

Fast forward to now, I'm being told placatingly that this is a discussion forum, and that I should let people discuss. In what way are these arguments different things, albeit one is hiding their actual arguments behind faux reasonableness?

That shits me. Say what you think. Don't hide it behind what you think you're allowed to say. If you've not the backbone to take criticism for what you think, that isn't my problem; hiding it only makes one a coward as well as a a-hole.

And - while this feels sincere - it also feels a bit like gaslighting.

I don't see how criticism of an opinion is shutting someone down. Perhaps you could explain it to me.

Also, I don't believe in ignoring people, outside of Plugger35. You only ignore someone when you deem their opinion worth absolutely no value, and while I might have a red hot crack against some of the posters in here, I could always be wrong. If I am, how can I know it without other people pointing it out?

See, now I feel silly.
Its definitely dropped off recently

I highly doubt Clarkson will coach anywhere else once he is done at HFC. I think he would struggle for success at another club. It would be so difficult to start all over again and fit into a brand new culture and system, after being at the same place for so long. Especially these days where there is so much less patience, more scrutiny and just so many hours of work a week for a coach. He would most likely be taking over a struggling club as well.

Plus, we don't know for sure just how great he is. I am not doubting that he is an excellent coach but the group of players he had at his disposal (during their success) can't be underestimated in terms of how influential they were during that period.

There are not too many great coaches who have had premiership success at 2 or more clubs.

Matthews, Barassi, Parkin, Malthouse and Jeans. Am I missing anyone?

So unless Clarko backs it up at a 2nd club, he will probably be behind those names above. I think if any club are looking at Clarko it would be in a 'Paul Roos' type scenario where he is the head coach for 2 years with an understudy coming through or perhaps he takes a director of coaching role.

Nonetheless, it would be fascinating to see how successful he would be somewhere else.

First of all, my comment about thought police was more about the general tone of the 'discussion'. Wasn't directed at you specifically.

You asked, so I replied to you, but was intended for all involved.

Second point about ignoring people. I have a different take. I think it's not worth getting riled up over people's opinions. If I find that someone is saying stuff that irritates me consistently, I'd rather ignore it. It might not have no value to me, but it has to others.

I come to this board to talk about my bluebaggers not get frustrated or angry about someone's political correctness, lack thereof or (to me) incomprehensible views.

I like light hearted banter not watching posters who fundamentally agree on something derail a thread for 30 posts over semantics.

So ignoring people isn't about them. It's about my own piece of mind and mental health.

Leaves more room for ineffectually yelling at the car in front of me because they just can't seem to get past that bloody tram.

Also, I have given you a long winded reply because I respect you as a poster and your views on things, though I don't always agree.

Peace out, brother.

Opposite of you. I think that it is odds on that he will coach again. His ego will demand it.
He will also have the pick of any club looking for a coach in 2023, and be smart enough to pick one with a good list and good administration.
He may take 2023 off for a rest and fire up in 2024. There will be plenty of suiters.

i don't hold a huge amount of hope for LOB but he is a project player, only 21 and missed playing footy last year, along with another interrupted VFL year this year.

it's a shithouse card to be dealt but he's got to be good enough to turn it around over the next 12 months. it's really up to him.
He shouldn't be, going at pick 10 as he did.

That draft wasn't strong, really. It's only really Noughton, followed by Allen. Everyone else has been slow burns at best.

It's a break the ice post... Everyone is getting so narky lately..
Also I didn't see it was in relation to an ongoing discussion, was only replying to that post.

Let people post their opinions, it's an opinion forum..
Were all love Carlton and are in this together...

Everybody is free to post their opinions just as others are then free to question that opinion.

The fact is that you aren't addressing the issue which is the way people are posting about our players. Call their ability into question, sure, tell us why they will or won't make it in your opinion. Don't get into disparaging them as people. The disrespectful treatment of players such as Murphy and Casboult and now moving onto younger players such as LOB has been nothing short of disgraceful from so called supporters of this club.

Being supporters, being passionate, etc, doesn't excuse people from posting with some sense of decency.

If you love Carlton then you will treat the players who represent the club with some respect even when expressing criticism of their performances.

Would we get Clarko in for 2 years and make Teauge the head assistant with the intention of taking over?

Teauge gets to see the master in action, gets a couple of seasons with the heat off to recoup and consider/prepare to 2024 onwards.

I would venture to say that a certain percentage here..have to have something or someone to be negative about....win two games in a row it gets harder...so now the young lad O'brien cops it...all silly and pointless...and the argument that it's a forum so anything goes is just a weak excuse for being needlessly nasty under the auspice of anonymity

wether he makes it or not wont be based on here either

Bullying gets a bad rep, yes one person is having a hard time, but everyone forgets about the 20 other people having a great time/bonding
