I'd rather the extra years development for a minor pick downgrade, I dunno if the Giants would go for it but they are still stacked with young talent and can wait. Maybe expect us to miss the 8 again and collect a decent pick?

No idea which players would be available at that range, but our own Tom Powell would be perfect.

It's an interesting take.

I see our list as having so much "young talent" that at this stage the extra year of development is absolutely secondary to the player's overall ability.

I'll happily pass up a Ned McHenry or Jordan Clarke this year if it means next year we get a Kozzie Pickett or Caleb Serong.

It also leaves us in a precarious position next year where we're relying on another club trading down to move up. I don't know who that club is, or where they'll be placed - is it a WB who want to trade down from a late teens pick, or is it a Collingwood who end up giving up a top 5 pick? How high can we feasibly move back up next year, and more importantly, which players are likely to be on the table there?

It's a really bold/risky move in my view, and I don't really see much direct value in it.

The exception, I think, would be if we're looking at a forward/ruck option in the mid teens. The earlier we can get a tall, the better given our list profile.

But isn't the Rumour that Cerra is waiting to see if we get Lyon because he doesn't like Ross?

The last page(s) Ash24 posted saying Cerra wasn't keen on Ross, and Ross wasn't keen on Cerra. Multiple posts calling it out. I now see he has deleted his post so we can all carry on I guess.

I won't post a screenshot.

Or we could equally bypass Ned Henry for Chayce Jones.

Really just depends how we see the list, and the kinds of players that'll be available. Melbourne paid a premium to bring in Kossie Pickett, by giving up the pick for Powell - we'd just be doing the same thing in reverse.

I'd love for us to use our first pick on both a key defender and a balanced mid, but we've only got the one selection to work with. Reset through the draft as Essendon did last year, and Melbourne did the season before. If we can get Cerra that makes the argument stronger to do that kind of trade.

Maybe it compromises your flexibility the following year, but the club now believes it is ready to launch and can afford to double dip IMO.

I'm curious - why?

Not being disparaging, just wondering what you see as being the key motivation for picking up an extra pick in the 12-18 range this season, given that we'd be going into 2022 with a bunch of second and third rounders to try and trade back up into the first round.

Im really keen on this idea and I hope we do something to improve our draft hand, whilst IMO Ive seen enough of SPS, Setters and LOB, there is a part of me that holds out hope, that under a new coach, they might come good on potential. Trading out of 2022 and in to this year, gives us an extra first rounder, but also gives one more chance to some players, who might come good.

If they don’t improve, we will have given all of them more than enough time and hopefully we could get a second or third round picks for them and improve our draft position next year.

Only having picks 5, 23 and 59 this year, doesn’t allow us to be aggressive at the draft or trade table.

"He’s waiting on this coaching situation. He’s spoken with Carlton, but he’d prefer Ross Lyon isn’t the coach. He wasn’t a huge fan of Ross Lyon at Fremantle. Dockers people tell me Ross wasn’t a huge wrap for Cerra either" Morris told AFL Tonight.

I'm not buying it, 'Docker people' have a clear agenda to keep Cerra at Fremantle and that includes fabricating information if that's going to create any doubt in Cerra's mind about where he's going to want to play next year.

I'd be fascinated to know what the full take is given Ross was only there for Cerra's first couple of years. Things change over time, but I highly doubt Ross had much of an opinion at all, and Cerra was performing to a pretty reasonable level from his first season.

That's not how I interpret that sentence. For Cerra. It's poorly drafted. Ross hasn't been at the club 2 days shy of 2 years. Cerra was half the player back then. Why would "Dockers people" be talking about Ross' opinion?

Trade/draft collateral this year. Best mid at our first pick and a player like Mac at our second pick

Imagine letting a 22 year old dictate which coach you get so they can come...
I doubt It'd be accurate but if it was whether you get Ross or not surely a line would be put through Cerra's name regardless.

I'd take that speculation with a grain of salt tbh.

Not sure why the hate.

IF I worked for a boss I didn't like or he didn't like me
And that boss went to another company
And then that other company tried to hire me

I probably wouldn't be keen on moving if I was going to work under my old boss....

It appears that Collingwood have been talking to Brad Lloyd about their vacant list manager position. Source Caro and afl.com.au.

Interesting that many on here think that he's not much chop. Must have a bit of respect within footy circles.

Swanny was meant to be a dud CEO at Carlton, the AFL points him in the direction of Brisbane and he's a god again. A change of scenery with different dynamics is all it takes at times. He may be a better fit elsewhere than he was/is for us.

Of course, all of that is purely hypothetical....

...all my bosses love me!!!

Well, that's either a rhetorical question, or one for Tom Morris - it is clearly he, via his 'sources', that is stating that "Ross wasn’t a huge wrap for Cerra". Not sure how that could be misinterpreted?

Almost certainly rubbish, but it's clear and straightforward rubbish.

Or maybe it’s us……

Where did I say Ross isn't keen on Cerra?

I posted a link of the article.

FWIW I call bullshit!
If Cerra’s manager was letting something like that get out, the lad would needs to move him/her on

Suffice to say I very much doubt it’d be the case. On the other hand Freo have a lot to gain by muddying the waters...
