Not to mention it can be demoralising for a young man to go from being top dog at junior level, to then come crashing back down to earth when you get to the big leagues.

Sometimes having that much confidence can work against you, at least until you reach your perceived potential.

I hope the club doesn't give up on him.
I can’t understand why recruiters would not do the due diligence and discover issues or flaws in potential player characters that might lead to problems like integration and assimilation to an AFL team environment.
If a player is immature and unprepared to handle the rigors and demands of AFL environment they are not ready for selection.

I don’t think Degoey fits our club, he’s obviously a great player but I will be relieved when he re-signs at Collingwood.

I’m not sure if the talk of dodo asking for pick 7 and one of TDK, Walsh or Curnow is true because even by his standards it’s pretty unbelievable but if it is the case then I have no problem with letting him walk to the psd for free.
People will argue that it’s not good will to do that but in my opinion dodo has lost all privileges of a fair deal if he has asked for that. I don’t want Essendon to get any compensation for this and I think after the ridiculous asking other clubs won’t have a problem with that.

I think we need another year to make a call. 2020 was a write off for Dow and LOB in terms of senior progression. They need a year to push their case, games won't be gift wrapped though.
I see no problem with our young group building form and fitness through the reserves, injuries and form will allow game time if they are ticking boxes in the 2's

the way the stocker draft happened how much due diligence would we have done? the way sos was fist pumping it would seem we did a bit even though he wasnt one of our main targets.

Our recruitment team rated him in the top 10

I reckon the fist bump was more in celebration of getting the live trade done.

Basically gave us an extra pick in the top 20 for what turned out to be only a small downgrade into next year

Just want to make a point. Don’t shade on Stocker and Dow and LOB. It’s not their fault they were picked in the first round. They were all rated at the time, so please don’t give me, we missed on Serong, we missed on Cerra, etc. It’s all speculative. Sam Mitchell, James Hird anyone.

The current Premier on top of the Buddy and Roughy wiff, selected Ben Griffiths one pick before Nat Fyffe, Ben Lennon one pick before Crippa, and on the flip side, gave up a first for Yaz. Even the legendary teams have fluffed on the way through.

It’s disappointing if they fail, awesome if they succeed, but in the end, it’s not completely their own fault. We do not have to pick them. Give them all a break, and they are young, give them some time. Everyone said Prestia was a fail, um, no.

And the poster who put up the Petracca example of a slow burn, exactly. He was almost traded, how did that work out. Jack Watts and Jack Trengove are where? There’s a million examples of fails.

I take it Fisher’s up next?

I heard he roller skates....

I remember posts here after Stockers first month at the club that he had rubbed seniors players up the wrong way.

His kicking off both sides was very good when he played, would be a shame if we lost him for nothing and he becomes a good player elsewhere.
Otherwise, part of Dees trade...

Definitely a sound point. For me personally though, the frustration lies in our inability (and for quite a long time) to develop young players from the time of their drafting. That’s the bit that stinks for me.

What Diesel should have done is discussed with him privately rather than put it out in the public domain for everyone to try interpreting his motives.
I think it's just Diesel's old school approach which is meant to motivate, that is fine with certain personality types but with others can be a disaster too.

Being a club great doesn't automatically validate your opinion of a current player either.

Dow's young he still has time, his problem is that we were forced to throw him in and play him straight away through necessity. It may have set his development back rather than advance it. People really need to learn to have patience with the younger players and give them time.

You sound like a participation award type.

Meh f* all this social media bs. I want Stocker and Kemp to come good, cause that Adelaide pick swap cost us the chance to draft Serong.

These days they have a swag of line coaches, assistants and specialists.

I have no doubt they have systems in place to iron out personality issues or conflicts!

As many have commented, hardly the first time!

Dow, Stocker etc are 20yo.

Still growing and learning as young men and as people.

Finding/sorting out their place in the world and (no doubt) at CFC.

Plenty way too willing to hammer them without knowing sfa about all the facts.

Both can still become elite players.

Bring on some more trade rumours.

This eating our own really sucks.

We've got 5 years of hope sitting on our list. I think enough of them are gonna make us a bloody good side for a 6-8 year run. That group also badly need 2 primeage topliners to assist them. Beside Docherty and Cripps, we have none of them.

Pick 7 was like gold for us for five years. Now, if it takes most of Pick 7 to land one of those primeagers, so be it. Of course we try to maximise it's value as much as possible, but we won't be getting too cute imo.
