As per the Bluemour File OP, this is a thread for discussing Carlton related rumours.
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/bluemour-file.1085141/

Rumour posters should post their rumours in both threads for those that like just to read rumours and for those that like to have get lost in their rumour files.

I know it's been mentioned by others but it seems our aim should be to turn 8 and 28 into something that is still useful to go to the draft with.

If we value Saad at something fair like pick 14 (I know people will say that's too high, but it's more realistic than the mid-20's I see touted around here) then we could look at something like this:

This values Saad at 15 but the trouble is it leaves us with a pick which is speculative at best in a year where list sizes are going down.

However, if * get a decent late-first rounder for Fantasia then we could go for something like this which would be much more appealing:

We give up 8 and 28 but stay in the late first round and get Saad. Essendon get 8 and 28 which is Pick 4 equivalent for Saad and Fantasia which seems like a decent return to me for 2 players that want out, one of whom is uncontracted.

Trade Radio Monday Update  :

Convinced SOS Cornes is now employed by EFC..
Damo play's SOS like a puppet to get what he want's out of him..

Saad
  • SOS “Carlton will have to trade for Saad, Essendon have pick 6 & 7 and would pick him up in the draft or PSD”
  • SOS "Carlton will have to use Pick 8, Player won't do it"
Treloar
  • SOS “Carlton would need to tip out a few players $$$ to get Treloar this year”
  • SOS” Treloar, same player as Williams not great defensive running, would pass on Treloar and wait for an Oliver, Merrett type next year”

Williams
  • SOS “Thinks Zac is a super talent, but thinks his not worth $800-$900k and isn’t a mid-fielder... Hasn’t the running power to run defensively, which we have too many of these types”
  • SOS baited by Damo "Cripps only runs one way, but is such inside player it’s ok”
General
  • SOS “Carlton could be in trouble keeping Cripps, Walsh, McKay, Curnow going forward, with these big contracts for Williams and Saad”
  • SOS “He wouldn't trade Dow or LOB - No Preseasons and injuries for Dow and LOB, 2021 is a big year for them both of them, super talents”.
  • SOS said “ McGovern needs to pull his finger out, has the x factor, and Teague loves him”
Noticed SOS keeps his powder dry with what he has done at Carlton, but is kind of negative of everything since he left..
Hope SOS can bring himself to become a bluebagger again

Question... If we are chasing McCartin as reported, would that mean either McKay or Curnow could be on the table for Oliver?

My two bobs worth, I have a feeling that we are looking at Mcartin due to maybe having one of our big blokes on the trade table, McGovern or Casboult. He would be a replacement or back up as such.

JSOS is a far better replacement for McG and McCartin couldnt handle replacing Cas because he camt handle ruck duties due to fitness and the physical nature of ruck work.

Fully fit JSOS should be best 18 over McG anyways. JSOS leaves everything out on the field. Theres never a question mark on his endeavour.

Some incredible melts in here.

All this will be forgotten when Saad is smashing it off half-back playing consistently good footy for us. Years of failure have seen many of our supporters become obsessed with high draft picks, and with “winning” other off-field elements of the game, like trade week.

For all we know Austin may be targeting players that could be drafted early or very late (mature ager or two?). In such an instance it really doesn’t matter where your picks fall. Regardless I feel like he is really going to try and make our late picks work, unlike his predecessor.

Agreed, but to be fair to SOS, one of his later picks (Tom De Koning) is turning out to be a total ripper of a player.

But yes, nailing more 2nd, 3rd, 4th and Rookie Draft selections are absolutely crucial for us going forwards.

...along with him not being comfortable in the role imposed upon him.....along with him having issues with team-mates.

Can't put numbers to that, but it doesn't take much imagination to see why he may not have had a great year.

I get the context of your post, but Saad ran 3rd in the B&F. One spot and just behind the much vaunted Zac Merrett.

I dont think you are. The clubs pay no attention to the 'piss and wind' of supporters in forums like this. They are far more measured and far less parochial.
Getting Saad to nominate so early meant we have pretty much guaranteed we will take him. If it fell through, there would not be a hope in hell another decent player would do the same publicly moving forward.
Didnt stop quality players electing to come to Collingwood after the Nick Stevens trade dispute with Port. Even Geelong are now reconsidering their move for Cameron. At the very least, if another club swoops on Saad before us, don't think Adam would be too upset given his asking price will be set artificially high. I can only hope our football team shows more fortitude than our football department.

A fully fit McGovern leaves Jack in his wake.....

Maybe we.could use a closer example to Adam Saad...what about Adam Saad?

Let’s use Adam Saad - 3 years at Essendon, finished top 4 each year in b&f.

Fits a need we are looking for - running half back with pace.

Also fits an age bracket we need, 27.

Also comes in not needing development, like a new draft pick would. As a ready made player, fits us perfectly as we enter our finals window.

Let's hope interest in McCartin isn't a sign that the club isn't confident of a Charlie Curnow return...

You can potentially get a player like Caleb Serong at Pick 8.

The word ""potentially" is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

If the club isnt confident of a Charlie Curnow return I would prefer they head down to Coles and buy a sack of potatoes than be looking at McCartin to replace him.

I'd argue that DC has shown more in his time at the club than both Dow and LOB.
I'd hope so, he's had an extra two years on the list. Just think if people are going to be saying about Dow then Cuningham is in that same boat but been in it two years longer

So like Plow but a year older. Gotcha.

What did Plow cost again? A portion of pick 28 was it?

That’s what I’m scared of as well.

No Charli should be fine. more like to move on McGov. , for a quality midfielder perhaps?

Peeled or unpeeled?

You’d think the worst solution to an injury prone player is an even more injury prone player

Honestly don't disagree with anything listed here.

Saad - I am OK with giving up 8 and getting something back with Saad
Treloar - Again agree, would rather we wait to see what unfolds next year
Williams - $800k+ is a steep amount to pay, even though I'm still excited to have him. And it's true we're banking on him being a midfield gun for us on limited midfield exposed form, even if that exposed form was impressive. Doing it for a few games is different to doing it consistently every game, every year.
Cripps - It's actually a little pet peeve of mine that Cripps isn't a good runner and doesn't do a whole lot of defensive running...I often see him barely moving as opposition players run hard and spread. As SOS says it's ok cause he's such a gun at other things, but it means we can't carry other slow, non-defensive mids.
General - OK SOS probably being a bit dramatic here...I'm sure we can keep those players if it's about the money.
