As per the Bluemour File OP, this is a thread for discussing Carlton related rumours.

Rumour posters should post their rumours in both threads for those that like just to read rumours and for those that like to have get lost in their rumour files.

It does call their bluff because it takes Pick 8 out of the equation and leaves them the choice of taking a late first rounder or us taking the punt on the PSD. It shows we are not going to waste the trade period only to cave in during the last mins. We tell them what their options are, we take Pick 8 out of the equation, and we get on with other deals. Like you said, they have 6 & 7, and we can't stop them redrafting Saad, but the ball will be back in their court on if they take a late 1st rounder for Saad or not.

I agree it’s fair value and what I think they should accept, by calling their bluff, if they wanted 8 and had set that at their minimum requirement, us splitting our pick might make them dig their heels in.

I really hope we split the pick, I don’t see the draft as a viable option in this instance or for our reputation going forward.

Sorry it is, I never said that it was defamation, but in the workplace legislation. Try it ring any corporation and you will generally only get a confirmation of employment dates; many corporations actually forbid their staff from giving a reference because of the Fair work legal quagmires. Personal references are different however.

They only thing that keeps many small businesses safe, is that people rarely know their rights.

As for Essendon re-drafting Adam, sorry, but yes he can refuse his previous employer with whom he has a fractious relationship. That's why while clubs threaten, it's never happened, the AFL won't let it, as they don't want to tackle with Fair work. Of course, he could change his mind or 16 other clubs could draft him, but not * as long as he is insistent that he won't work for them.

* were stupid in leaking negative comments about Saad, they should have been pumping up how great it was.

Many of the restrictions the AFL imposes on players would not stand up to court challenge, all it takes is one successful challenge and the whole house of cards falls down. So I think you're right the AFL won't let it get to that but they won't just be twisting one clubs arm they'd be twisting both. No doubt its an AFL appointed mediator that steps in.

I think a lot of list managers are reluctant to screw the other side, unless like Gold Coast last year they are unreasonable. A deal will get done and probably neither party will be totally happy with the outcome.

Let's hope interest in McCartin isn't a sign that the club isn't confident of a Charlie Curnow return...

Pick 8 for Saad and future 2nd is fair imo as it will be a pick between 19-22 as * will be close to wooden spooners.

If we were to trade with Brisbane for their picks we would have say 18 to use this year.

If we were to trade with Geelong we would have similar.

The draft this year is heavily compromised due to academy/next gen picks and even more so now due to lack of exposure due to Covid. Therefore a higher pick next year will be better as all of the limitations of this year will make next years stronger due to those players who may miss out with no exposed form are now entered into next years pool.

I’d rather go into this years draft with 29 and 50, try to find a diamond in the rough. Then attack next years draft hard. We are brining in Williams and Saad so 2 picks in the draft is fine

I think that makes perfect sense.

Although i would be tempted to pinch a pick in the 20s off * (Orazio trade) and then package up that and our second for a pick in the low - mid teens (WB)

Gives us a 14 to play with should somehow things get interesting at the end of trade week!

We have more and Goddard on our list. Why are people so against giving McCartin a try?

We have Moore on our list still. We delisted Goddard and BSOS which suggests Moore is staying because ... stuff.

We need more tall depth.

Trading 8 for Saad and a future second would be a much better result then splitting 8 for two firsts this year and using one on Saad and keeping one. I’d even offer our future third or this years third if they want to use it in some way.

Too much analysis on how Doro trades and not enough about Austin. Check out last year at least.

Sam Power is the Dogs Head of List Management and Recruiting, and has been since 2017. Austin hasn't been in charge of trade negotiations anywhere in his 14 year resume.

He spent 6 years in recruiting at Richmond so gets team credit for the premiership list they built, but it's hard for us to know how to break down that decision making.

We are definitely following the Richmond model slowly but surely I think.

Wanganeen was a precocious young gun who’d also won a Brownlow by the time he was 21. He wasn’t a pure backman either.

To me Saad is more a very good role player. Has weapons, but can only really play as a rebounding defender and his style of play suits him being fed the ball.

I’d be interesting to see how he’d be rated if he hasn’t just come off a career best season, and even more amazed how quickly some have given up on the deal already. You always have the option of walking away.
He's become more valuable to us because we have retired Simmo, and promised incoming Williams more time in the midfield than at HBF.

They're not giving us their future 2nd... they know they're gonna be shit for the next 3-5 years at least and next year's draft is very highly rated...

We're going to be offered the Fantasia 2nd and we're going to have to give them our 3rd rounder for it too.

Everyone is shitting on Ess** but you watch, they will be ok.. only losing saad really as Daniher and Fantasia hardly played.. if they get dunkley and caldwell and organise something in forward line they wont be easy beats like everyone is trying to say..

I just don't see what you gain.. he hasn't show anything at AFL level. Shouldnt have even been a pick 1.

I'd much prefer to take a kid at the back end of the draft in this draft considering all the unknowns.
With the draft this year - especially this year - as unproven as its ever been, pickups like this (and DFAs from other clubs) are going to be the way to go in the short-term.

Disagree that he never showed anything at the top level. If he's ready to come back, you don't just lose that talent.

Agree to disagree - at least we have someone else to discuss!

If GWS want players why don’t we see what they’d be interested in from our list? Surely we have a Parfitt equivalent that we could spare

Any chance at all we make a bid for Treloar? I'd be disappointed if we weren't at least asking the question. Will be a bargain near A grader and would have a HUGE point to prove. You just know he'll make the Pies look silly and I'd rather he dominate for us than another club.

Sue me.

Plus... can you imagine the melts from Pies fans if he were sent across to the old enemy?

I'm in, especially if they're paying (a few hundred thou of his contract).

Might even make the 8.
But that's all their list will be good for, lacking talks with Hurley and Hooker on the decline

That second and our third will probably only be 10 spots different so not a great result unless we are then trading up. Also Fantasia and Saad our for pick 8 isn’t a great result for Essendon.
Essendon are desperate for that pick 8 so I wouldn’t be ruling out the possibility of us trading our future 3rd and getting their second back. We have nothing to really gain going early in trade week unless we have other targets in mind and if that’s the case then paying slight overs for Saad will mean nothing because we need to look at the whole trade week not single trades in isolation.

Tom McDonald is a chance to end up at Collingwood, says former Magpies recruiter Matt Rendell.

Wait, they are trying to get rid of players because of their salary cap, but they are going to bring in McDonald?
